ICO Guard
Coating
Product Data Sheet
Product Description
ICO-Guard Coating™ is a two part, 100% solids, epoxy
coating primarily for protecting concrete surfaces in
corrosive environments. It is a USDA approved material,
with zero VOC’s, no odor, and excellent color stability. It is
our highest chemical resistant, bisphenol A epoxy coating,
resisting moderate to high concentrations of inorganic
acids, caustics and some solvents. With a tensile elongation
of 9%, it is a flexibilized coating that withstands impact and
thermal shock far better than conventional, more brittle
epoxy coatings. ICO Guard Coating has excellent damp, as
well as dry adhesion to most substrates. No primer is
needed. It is normally applied 10-20 mils per coat,
depending on substrate. Two thinner coats are preferred
to one thick coat to minimize entrapped air.
ICO Guard Coating can be ordered in a fast cure version, ICO
Guard Coating FC, for faster turnaround times and for
applications down to 40°F, while our ICO Guard Coating XFC
can cure down to 32°F. Note that both of these fast cure
versions, if applied below 50°F, are prone to whitening
under hot water wash-downs, so they should be top coated
with our more color stable ICO Ure Guard 100,
polyurethane coating.

The two ingredients should be mixed in the
prescribed ratios, using a low speed (<750rpm)
jiffy-style mixer. Mix Part A first in its own bucket
for about 30 seconds, then add Part B hardener
and mix for at least 30-60 seconds at low speeds
until uniform in color.
Immediately after mixing, pour the contents onto
the floor in a ribbon pattern, spread with a
notched rubber squeegee to the desired coverage
rate, e.g. 160SF/gal for 10 mils, then back-roll
with a quarter inch, adhesive type roller. Do not
over-roll as this can result in bubble formation.
While still wet, broadcast suitable grit into the
first coat. This may be back-rolled for obtaining a
more uniform texture. Allow to dry tack free.
Apply second coat to lock in aggregate and obtain
a minimum 20 mil thickness. Note: If only one
thick coat can be applied (>15mils), a pin roller
should be used to facilitate air release.

ICO Guard
Coating GF
Product Data Sheet
Product Description
ICO Guard Coating GF is a 100% solids, two-part epoxy
coating reinforced with glass flakes for enhanced
permeability resistance.
It has several significant
advantages over conventional vinyl ester tank linings,
including no need for special ventilation in confined spaces,
superior damp adhesion, and ability to be applied in greater
thicknesses per coat on vertical and overhead surfaces. ICO
Guard Coating GF has excellent adhesion to damp as well as
dry properly prepared concrete and metal surfaces.
ICO Guard Coating GF is available in all of our standard
colors in 4 gallon pre-measured kits. It can be applied by
brush, roller or spray up to 20 mils per coat at 70°F without
sagging. Two 20 mil coats are recommended for optimal
permeation resistance in immersion. No primer is required
except when coating over rusted metal.
Product Application
ICO Guard Coating GF is designed to protect metal and
cementitous substrates subjected to long term immersion
conditions where chemical attack can be expected. Typical
applications would be clarifiers, settling ponds and filtration
tanks found in industrial and municipal waste water
treatment facilities, as well as sewer lines, manholes,
connector boxes and metal tank linings where chemical
concentrations are compatible with our “Guard” product
line (see Milamar Chemical Resistance Chart). Maximum
reagent temperatures should not exceed 120°F.
Badly pitted or spalled concrete should first be prefilled
with our ICO Gel epoxy patch material prior to coating. For
pitted concrete surfaces with exposed aggregate, our 1/8”
trowel applied ICO Guard Liner would be the choice,
especially in trenches, sumps and pits
Chemical Resistance
ICO Guard Coating GF is appropriate for immersion use
when rated “I” in our Chemical Resistance Chart (see “ICO
Guard” heading).

ICO Lastic / ICO
Lastic Gun Grade
Product Data Sheet
Product Description
ICO-Lastic is a two part, 100% solids epoxy-modified
urethane. With elongation of 140%, it combines the
elastomeric properties of a urethane with the excellent dry
and damp adhesion of an epoxy. Normally applied by roller
or squeegee down to a minimum thickness of 20 mils, ICOLastic offers an impermeable moisture barrier against
standing water. Applied by trowel in a “gun grade” version,
ICO Lastic Gun Grade, it can also be used for interior
expansion joints where moderate movement is expected.
At minimum 60 mil thick applications, ICO-Lastic offers
excellent crack bridging characteristics for inside or outside
concrete structures. It will withstand light to moderate tow
motor and automobile traffic.
Product Application
ICO-Lastic is used in food and beverage plants, where it’s no
odor characteristics are desirable, as a waterproof
membrane underneath acid brick or tile floors. Applied at
approximately 60mils, it provides a good secondary
containment barrier against some acids, caustics and fuel
oils. For more highly corrosive areas, where crack bridging
is required, ICO-Lastic is applied beneath one of our quarter
inch higher chemical resistant epoxy overlayments. ICOLastic also acts as a complete waterproofing barrier for
parking garages, balconies, walkways and roof decks (use
ICO Ure Guard 80 or 100 for better UV resistance).
ICO-Lastic Gun Grade offers a resilient (100% tensile
elongation) yet tough caulking material that will hold up to
normal fork lift traffic in expansion joints where moderate
movement is expected. For old concrete floors, where little
movement is expected, use of our 100%solids epoxy, ICO
Caulk, is preferred.
Chemical Resistance
ICO-Lastic can withstand up to 72 hours immersion in the
following chemicals.

Installation
Please refer to our Application Specs for detailed
instructions. Particular care must be taken to follow those
instructions precisely to assure proper installation.
1. New concrete should be allowed to cure a minimum of
28 days and/or be checked with a rubber mat or plastic
sheet to insure adequate curing time.
2. All surfaces to be covered should be power washed, shot
blasted, acid etched, scarified or sanded to present a clean,
sound substrate to which to bond to. The prepared surface
should have a ph. of 7.
3. ICO Lastic is a self-priming material; however application
of a single coat of ICO Primer LV over porous substrates is
recommended to help prevent out gassing. Apply at a
coverage of 180-200 SF/gallon and allow to dry.
4. Mix Part A and Part B components at slow speeds (< 700
rpm) with a Jiffy style mixer for at least two minutes, until
uniform in color. See Tech Bulletin 117 for details.
5. Pour the mixture onto the substrate and spread with a
squeegee, trowel or roller at a coverage rate of no greater
than 80 SF/gallon (for 20 mils). Spike roll with a porcupine
roller to help release air.
6. If an anti-slip surface is required, broadcast in aggregate.
7. No top coating is required; however, if exposure to UV
light, application of one of our urethane coatings is
recommended.
Failure to follow the above instructions, unless expressly
authorized by a Milamar Technical Service Representative,
will void our material warranty.
Precautions
1. For crack bridging (up to 1/8” wide), apply ICO Lastic at
least 60 mils thick.
2. ICO Lastic Gun Grade, with 100% elongation, best suited
for inside expansion joints with only moderate
temperature swings.
3. Do not apply below 40°F.

ICO Primer LV
Product Data Sheet
Product Description
ICO-Primer LV is a low viscosity, two part, 100% solids
epoxy primer. It is virtually odorless and non-toxic. ICO
Primer LV has excellent damp, as well as dry adhesion to
concrete, masonry surfaces, wood and gyp board. (For
priming metal, we recommend our Rust Guard Coating).
With a very low viscosity of 250 centipoise, it readily
penetrates porous substrates to provide an excellent
mechanical bond. Such a highly penetrating primer has also
been found effective in sealing the concrete to help prevent
outgassing. Where faster curing times are required, specify
ICO Primer LV FC. For application between 32°F and 50°F,
Curing Times@:
ICO
Primer LV
ICO
Primer LV
FC
our ICO Primer XFC material should be used. For vertical
surfaces, our ICO Primer XT is preferred.
Product Application
ICO-Primer LV must be applied before using our ICO Patch
(at a 10:1 mix) and our ICO Coat 81 trowelled material (at
an 8:1 aggregate : liquid mix). The primer should be allowed
to tack up prior to application of the top coat. For all our
other self-priming floor toppings and coatings, our primers
should be allowed to dry tack free to maximize its
effectiveness in sealing the concrete to reduce any possible
outgassing. ICO Primer LV can also be used as a penetrating
concrete sealer to prevent dusting and moisture
penetration.

Installation
Please refer to our Application Specs for detailed
instructions. Particular care must be taken to follow those
instructions precisely to assure proper installation.
1. New concrete should be allowed to cure a minimum of
28 days and be checked with a rubber mat or plastic sheet
to insure adequate curing time. If this is not possible,
contact ICO Technical Service for further information.
2. All surfaces to be covered should be power washed, shot
blasted, acid etched, scarified or sanded to present a clean,

sound substrate to which to bond to. The prepared surface
should have a ph of 7.
3. Part A and B should be mixed in the prescribed ratio,
using a low speed jiffy-style mixer (maximum 750 rpm), for
at least 60 seconds.
4. ICO Primer LV is a 100% solids epoxy and no solvents are
necessary.
5. Apply the mixed material with a fine nap adhesive roller,
squeegee or brush. Apply at approximately 200-250 SF per
gallon, depending on surface porosity.
6. Reprime any dry appearing areas.
Failure to follow the above instructions, unless expressly
authorized by a Milamar Technical Service Representative,
will void our material warranty.
Precautions
1. Primer LVFC very fast reacting; pour out of bucket
immediately after mixing and spread with squeegee,
especially at temps greater than 70°F
2. Only Primer FC and XFC can be applied below 50°F. Do
not apply Primer XFC above 50°F
3. Recoat windows at 70°: Primer LV – 18 hours; LVFC – 10
hours; FC – 8 hours; XT – 18 hours, for expanding recoat
window, broadcast in aggregate into primer.
4. Never apply Primer LV or LV FC more than 15 mils
(100SF/gallon) per pass as it will not cure hard in greater
thicknesses.
Product Specification
The specified area shall receive an application of ICOPrimer LV as manufactured by Milamar Coatings LLC of
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The system shall be installed by
precisely following the manufacturers published
recommendations pertaining to surface preparation,
mixing, and application. The material shall be a low odor,
solvent free, 100% solids epoxy primer with excellent
adhesion to damp as well as dry concrete, metal and wood.
It should be able to adhere to brick and tile, exceeding 1000
psi on an Elcometer pull test.
