North Carolina Community College Transfer Guide into the
College of Health and Human Services
All students must complete University general education requirements in addition to the following supplementary courses.
General education guidelines and course equivalencies are available in the Undergraduate Admissions office.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
RN/BSN Completion (must have earned an AAS in Nursing)
Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training
Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science

Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (must have earned an AAS in Respiratory Therapy)
Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Prerequisite Courses (3.0 cumulative GPA required; B or higher required in each science, lab, BIO 155, and PSY 241):
ENG 111, ENG 112 (or ENG 113 or ENG 114), MAT 171, MAT 152, CHM 131 and 131A and CHM 132 (or CHM 151 and CHM 152),
BIO 155, BIO 165/166 or 168/169, BIO 170 or 175 or 275, PSY 150, PSY 241, and SOC 210 (or ANT 210).
Pre-Nursing: Transfers who have not completed all of the nursing prerequisites may be admitted as pre-nursing. Admission to pre-nursing
does not automatically admit an applicant to the nursing major (upper division). An additional application to the School of Nursing is
necessary.
Admission requirements to the BSN upper division major:
1. Admission into upper division is competitive; not all applicants who meet minimum requirements for admission can be
accommodated. Admission decisions into upper division are made by the School of Nursing for the fall and spring semesters.
2. Minimum criteria for application to the nursing major are: a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all college work attempted, a
minimum grade of “B” in all sciences, labs, BIO 155, and PSY 241, and the completion of nursing prerequisites by the end of the
regular semester prior to the semester an applicant desires entrance to upper division.
3. Students must be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry before starting upper division courses.
RN/BSN Completion
Prerequisite Courses: ENG 111, ENG 112 (or ENG 113 or ENG 114), MAT 171, MAT 152, CHM 131 and 131A (or CHM 151), BIO
165/166 or 168/169, BIO 170 or 175 or 275, PSY 150, SOC 210 (or ANT 210), and four LBST courses.
Pre-RN/BSN: Registered nurses seeking admission to the curriculum that need to complete nursing prerequisites and/or general education
courses may apply for admission to the Pre-RN/BSN completion curriculum. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
Admission to Pre-RN/BSN does not automatically admit an applicant to the RN/BSN completion curriculum. An additional application to
the School of Nursing is necessary.
Admission requirements to RN/BSN completion curriculum:
1. A current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse.
2. A GPA of 2.0 or better in all transferable college courses.
3. At least a grade of “C” in all required nursing prerequisites.
4. Completion of all prerequisites and general education by the end of the summer term prior to the fall semester program, and by the
end of the fall semester prior to the spring semester program of the next year.
5. Transfer applicants to the RN/BSN Completion program must have a completed application on file in the Undergraduate
Admissions Office by March 15th to be considered for admission to upper division for the fall semester, and by September 15th for
admission for the spring semester.

Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training
Recommended courses: BIO 165/166 or 168/169, CHM 151, HEA 110, HEA 112, MAT 171, and MAT 152. Some prerequisite courses
must be completed at UNC Charlotte or at an institution with an approved accredited program.
Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science
Recommended courses: BIO 165/166 or 168/169, CHM 151, HEA 110, HEA 112, MAT 171, and MAT 152.
Some prerequisite courses must be completed at UNC Charlotte or at an institution with an approved accredited program.
Bachelor of Science in Public Health
Recommended courses: MAT 171, MAT 152, COM 110 (or COM 231), and HEA 110.

Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy
Criteria for admission:
1. A current unencumbered license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in North Carolina or in the state of current employment.
2. A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better from your Associate Degree program that is a regionally and CAAHEP-accredited respiratory
therapy program.
3. Students must earn a minimum grade of “C” in all coursework taken by the end of the semester prior to the semester for which
application is made.
Applicants are competitively reviewed for admission based on their cumulative GPA in all college transferable coursework. Satisfactorily
completing the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program. After evaluating the credentials of all applicants
meeting the minimum academic requirements, the selection committee offers admission to students whose credentials demonstrate the
highest level of academic achievement. Students are admitted only for one cohort in the Fall semester.
Bachelor of Social Work
Recommended Courses: SOC 210, PSY 150, PSY 281, BIO 110 (or BIO 111), POL 120, MAT 171, and MAT 152.
