Plattsburgh College Foundation 2009-2010 Making a Difference for our Students Thoughts from Kurt Mowry, president, Plattsburgh College Foundation G aining momentum, meeting targets and realizing goals – these are phrases not often heard in the last few economically troubling years. But they accurately describe the Plattsburgh College Foundation’s efforts during the last fiscal year (July 1, 2009-June 30, 2010), when in spite of the downturn, the Bright with Promise Campaign reached $12.8 million or 85 percent of its $15 million goal. Among the many bright spots in 2009-2010 fiscal year: » Reached a total of more than 9,888 alumni donors supporting the Bright with Promise Campaign. Combined with other donors, that total rises to 14,017. » Gifts from more than 4,000 alumni to the Plattsburgh Fund went toward: • Student scholarships. • Improvements to student common areas such as furniture in Beaumont, Champlain Valley Hall, Redcay Hall and the Myers Fine Arts Building. • Expanded wireless service in Sibley Hall. • Support for the First-Year Experience program. » More than 400 current, former and retired faculty and staff made gifts totaling more than $135,000. » The foundation funded more than 600 scholarship awards, totaling $778,901 and including 17 North Country Scholarship awards. » Received a $250,000 gift from Larry Unrein ’79 and his wife, Eileen. The gift is the largest gift to the endowment from a living alumnus and will support the already endowed Unrein Family Scholarship as well as a new nursing scholarship and the unrestricted Plattsburgh Fund. These are only a few of the milestones and hallmarks of the year thanks the loyal donors who continue to step up to the plate and the many new donors who have discovered how their support makes a difference in the lives of SUNY Plattsburgh students. With the end of the Bright with Promise Campaign in sight, this support is more critical than ever. We offer our heartfelt thanks for making a difference in the lives of our students.
