P C Russell Crooks, our Community Police Officer, will to be holding a surgery on Wednesday 28th March,
between 6pm & 7pm in the OAP Hall, Barley Close. Any residents who have issues, concerns or policing
problems are invited to come along. You can contact him on 0845 123 33 33. These surgeries are proving
very useful by providing him with the information & feedback required to allow him to take action in many
cases and to resolve problems.
Erewash Borough Councillor , Alan Summerfield, will also be holding a surgery at the same time. You can
make an appointment by phoning 01332 841497, or just turn up on the night.
At a recent meeting of the Ilkeston and District Police Consultative Committee, Little Eaton's representative
pointed out the length of time spent before you get an answer from the 0845, non-emergency number.
The new Inspector for our area, Peter Tzabo explained that measures were being taken to reduce that time and
that a new system of reporting on-line was being brought into operation and would be confirmed later.
Concerns about the positioning of the “ Safety Camera Van” being parked in positions where it catches most
drivers speeding, as opposed to being positioned where accidents and fatalities happen, at the north end of the
village, was also mentioned. Please note that these Safety Camera Vans will also be used to catch motorists
breaking the law by using their mobile phone whilst driving. Research has shown that you are 4 times more
likely to have an accident if you are using a mobile phone whilst driving.
Whilst our local beat officer reports a reduction in crime in Little Eaton over the last 12 months, residents
should remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour immediately. If you have any difficulty reporting
incidents on the 0845 non-emergency number please let any
member of the Parish Council have details, we can then take the Useful Telephone numbers
matter up with our Inspector.

letters of complaint from residents about the level of dog fouling
on St Peter’s Park. If you witness anyone failing to remove their dog mess, then report it to any Parish
Councillor, follow up action will be taken. Fencing to enclose the children's play area which was requested
by the Playground Equipment Inspector, has been ordered by the Parish Council and should be ready for
installation during April.
PCSO
We have a Police Community Support Officer for the rural beat area of Erewash. His name is PCSO John
Cray and he will be in the village at regular intervals.
Anti-Social Behaviour
A lot of things, like teenagers meeting in groups or children playing in the street, are not necessarily anti-social
behaviour. But problems that happen frequently over a long period of time which cause alarm, distress or
harassment could be. Even though this kind of behaviour may upset you and your neighbours too, you may
not want to bother the police. By letting the police or your council know what’s happening, you can help them
take action and stop problems like these becoming more serious.
It is going to be easier for you to report behaviour which may spoil your quality of life.
Call Derbyshire Police on 0845 123 3333 about:
Criminal Damage. Verbal or Physical Abuse. People causing nuisance or being rowdy in public places.
Street drinking. Underage drinking or being drunk in public. Nuisance motorbikes. Harassment by any form
of discrimination.
Call your District Council, in our case, Erewash Borough Council on 01159 072244 about:
Noise nuisance. Disputes with a neighbour. Environmental issues, including fly tipping. Graffiti. Abandoned
vehicles. Discarded drug paraphernalia, ie needles.
Call Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service on 01773 837200 about:

The New Village Hall
A committee was formed last November, The Little Eaton Village Hall Project Committee. Made up of
members of the Parish Council, Community Association, and other members representing village organisations, it meets every Monday in the OAP Hall, 7.30pm. The site of the new Village Hall on St Peter’s Park is
clearly identified if you care to go and have a look. Two bids for grants are being made. One to Waste
Recycling Environmental Ltd. (WREN) WRG Communities Challenge. This application has already been
submitted and another to the Big Lottery Fund is in the process of being prepared and should be submitted by
the end of April. Results of these applications should be known by early Autumn. However, they are both
two stage applications and winning stage one gets you though to stage two, and a more detailed application.
If you think you could help in any way we would be glad to see you at any meeting, just call 07976-371642
to get confirmation of the meeting date.

The New Car Park
You may have spotted work in progress, on the site of the old Scout Building, behind the Bowling Green.
The site has been levelled in readiness for Barden Construction to commence work. It should be completed
by the middle of April and will provide 44 new car parking spaces and 6 motorcycle spaces and a bigger
turning area at the end of the existing car park. Extra lighting will be installed and telescopic bollards, so that
the car park may be closed off at times to prevent unauthorised use.
Flood Warden
The Parish Council has a Community Response Plan. Part of that is to cater for times when parts of the Village
may become flooded. We are looking for someone with good local knowledge who would be able to act as
Flood Warden and be able to warn and obtain assistance for vulnerable individuals within the community in
the event of a flood situation. Flood Wardens provide a very important local service. The Wardens are
supported and trained jointly by the Environment Agency and the County Council. If you are interested then
please contact the Parish Clerk.
