modules, specialty batteries, battery accessories and generators to a large

A truly rugged UPS system has many unique characteristics including
conformal coated PCBs which protect against exposure to moisture, high
levels of humidity and dust, carefully selected components to operate fully in
extreme temperatures and boards designed to minimize environmental impact.
In addition, products and solutions are designed to meet, outdoor installation,
shock and vibration, standards. Systems must be designed to operate
under extreme temperature conditions. Because Alpha understands these
requirements, the Novus line of outdoor products is capable of withstanding
extreme temperatures.
Alpha’s powering solutions also offer superior communications capabilities
including remote monitoring via SNMP web-based communication. Real-time
alerts and reports on UPS status can be sent to four different email addresses,
or can be monitored from your PC, Internet-connected mobile phone or PDA,
each with selectable event severity levels to trigger different notifications
of events, faults and alarms.

Outdoor Solutions
Novus FXM power modules provide constant, reliable UPS grade backup power management for Traffic, Security,
Telecommunications and other applications. The FXM can operate in temperatures of -40°C to 74°C (-40°F to 165°F)
supporting your mission critical applications with clean, uninterruptible power. The FXM modules are CSA and UL
approved and are adaptable for vertical1 or horizontal orientations as well as rack mounting. Double buck and Double
boost is designed into the module to accept a wider input range, providing constant output voltage without switching
to system batteries. The FXM’s built-in communications intelligence software reports UPS event status, collects valuable
planning and maintenance data, and monitors your site, through a Windows-based GUI. It also offers a real-time
clock for statistical analysis and event diagnostics. An optional SNMP Ethernet interface is available for remote
monitoring from virtually any internet-supported location.

Ethernet/SNMP Card Option Novus FXM, Novus Micro, Novus Micro Secure
For greater effectiveness, control and communication over your UPS system, choose the Ethernet/SNMP card
option that is available for our Novus FXM, Novus Micro and Novus Micro Secure products. The Ethernet/
SNMP card is factory installed allowing for communication with the Alpha UPS remotely through a web based
interface. The Ethernet/SNMP card is powered by the UPS batteries eliminating the need for an external power
source. The communication card is capable of providing notifications to four different email addresses and to
devices such as your PC, a mobile phone or PDA. Outgoing notifications can be customized with selectable
severity levels and triggered by events, faults and/or alarms.

Novus User Software is a graphical user interface (GUI) designed to help Alpha UPS users monitor, control and
set various parameters for their UPS systems through a computer using a standard RS-232 connection or through
the internet when the UPS is equipped with an Ethernet/SNMP card. Users are able to read and display UPS
events, warnings, date, time and relay configurations through this Windows-based environment. The software is
an excellent maintenance and troubleshooting tool that automatically updates information every five seconds and
records events and warnings with time/date stamps.
Get real-time notification of every alarm and fault that occurs so that you are immediately in a position to take
action. Easy to customize to your exact needs, the Ethernet edition allows you to set your own notification
preferences via PC and receive notifications to any PC, mobile phone, PDA, or any device that accepts email.

The Novus Micro Secure provides constant, reliable backup power for small critical load applications such as security
cameras, surveillance systems, WiFi equipment and outdoor lighting. With its NEMA 3R enclosure, this easy-to-install
solution includes a UPS power module and battery bank for an all-in-one out-of-the box solution: just wire the inputs,
your load and communications (if ordered), and it’s ready for operation. Due to its compact design and light weight,
the Micro Secure can be wall or pole mounted (when using the optional pole mounting bracket). The Micro Secure can
also be used as a power supply for security camera applications. An optional Ethernet/SNMP interface is available.

The Alpha Novus Micro line provides constant reliable backup power in 300VA or 1000VA models for use in Access
Control, Security, Parking, Public Utility and Telecommunications applications. This all-in-one solution is comprised
of a NEMA 3R outdoor rated enclosure, an uninterruptible power supply module and battery bank. Batteries selection
is based on the application and run time requirements. Be sure to order the appropriate battery connector kit for your
specific application. The Novus Micro can withstand harsh outdoor conditions operating in temperatures of -40°C to 74°C
(-40°F to 165°F) to support your mission critical applications with clean, uninterruptible power. Optional Battery Heater
Mats provide heat to the batteries and are recommended for optimal performance in cold climates. For extended run
time applications, the XL or XL3 provide space to accommodate additional batteries.

Alpha’s Automatic Transfer Switch acts as a fail-safe device by
switching the critical load to the utility line should a fault occur in the
UPS. The ATS ensures that clean power is always provided to the
critical load, ensuring that your mission-critical equipment always
remains running in the event of an outage. This transfer switch also
includes a standard manual bypass switch which eliminates costly
equipment downtime while servicing the UPS or replacing the batteries.

Alpha offers a comprehensive line of AlphaCellTM batteries in a number of sizes
and technologies to support your outdoor applications. Included in our battery
line are AGM and Gel batteries that offer extended runtime and warranty
configurations. Our Gel Cell batteries last longer and are more reliable because
of their excellent heat displacement characteristics. Independently tested,
AlphaCellTM GXL batteries come with a full replacement non-prorated warranty.
These batteries have seven to eight years of expected life and trouble free
performance offering reduced maintenance costs. Our AGM batteries are also
available to support a variety of applications. Both models are ready with 100%
out of the box capacity.

applications. The AlphaCellTM FT series are designed for long life. Benefits
of these new batteries include: central gassing system, hinged front covers,

rates. These batteries come with a handle for carrying convenience.

Low temperatures can compromise battery performance by reducing
runtimes and slowing down the recharge rate. Battery Heater Mats
combat these negative effects for better battery performance in cold
conditions. In extreme environments, battery damage can result if
battery heater mats are not used.

The AlphaGuard is a battery charge management system that
monitors and protects your batteries for runtime optimization and
longer battery life. CSA and UL approved, AlphaGuard allows you
to replace single batteries rather than the whole string. It spreads
charge voltage equally across batteries to maximize battery life and
compensates for battery differences as they age.

The potted version is ideal for applications where batteries are
installed under ground or subject to damp conditions or possible

Line Interactive

In normal operation, when AC line voltage is present, power is filtered for voltage spikes and
output voltage is regulated. Some electricity is used to keep the batteries fully charged. When
the AC line voltage is lost or falls outside the input range, AC power is supplied from the
batteries through the inverter.
Indoor Solutions
Advantages of line-interactive topology:
• Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR)
• Lower electricity consumption (less costly to operate) – More efficient because less power conversion is performed when acceptable AC input is present.
• Higher reliability – Lower component count and lower operating temperatures.
Double conversion
In normal operation, all incoming AC power is rectified to DC power, supplying the DC bus. The
output inverter then inverts the DC power to AC power to support the critical loads. When the AC
input is lost or goes out of range, the UPS draws power from its battery so that AC output is not
affected. Because the AC input with it’s spikes, voltage blips and anomalies is first converted to
DC, there is less need for using the battery when these AC input variances occur. Less battery
usage preserves battery capacity for extended outages, and preserves battery service life.

UPS Topology
Double conversion continued
Reducing battery service life and the cost associated with it can offset the advantage of the lower
initial purchase and operating costs of a line-interactive UPS thus making the overall cost similar.
Situations that might call for a double-conversion on-line UPS are those that require power factor
correction (PFC), small physical size, or some types of medical equipment or instrumentation.
Advantages of double-conversion topology:
• Operates less often from battery when the input voltage is highly distorted or wildly fluctuating
• Power factor correction (PFC) provided, regardless of load type
• More compact and lightweight, especially at higher power levels

Controlled Ferroresonant
The Ferro Resonant Topology is similar to a Line Interactive topology with the addition of a
ferro resonant transformer to offer constant output voltage regardless of the state of the input
voltage. In both normal mode and battery mode, all output is first filtered through a ferro resonant
transformer isolating the output. This also provides for a seamless transfer to UPS power and
offers galvanic isolation to isolate charge carrying particles from functional section of the system.
Auto Voltage Regulation (AVR) is managed through Buck & Boost Mode.
Advantages of controlled ferro resonant topology:
• Best spike & surge protection with output isolation
• Zero transfer time
• Good MTBF as inverter is used in Standby mode
• Batteries are not used in a brown out condition

The ALI Elite Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), in tower or rack mount
configurations, is a microprocessor-controlled, pure sine wave, line
interactive UPS featuring advanced Auto Voltage Regulation (AVR) with

that results in fewer transfers to battery power thus extending battery life.

The Galaxy 4000 is designed for data center grade power protection in critical
environments. Features include fault tolerant architecture to protect loads and the UPS
unit during unintended faults, easy and quick to install, user-friendly graphical interface, web
Galaxy 4000
based monitoring options, and front only access. The IGBT rectifier minimizes input harmonics and
power factor corrected input reduces installation costs due to smaller cabling and generator costs.
The Galaxy 4000’s unique fault tolerant architecture safely manager output faults without compromising the UPS, while
the Digital Power Quality Management System provides precision voltage regulation on a consistent bases. The UPS

Receptacle Information
Electrical receptacles, outlets, and wall sockets are used in a variety of residential, general-purpose, commercial,
industrial, laboratory, and hospital applications. Several blade or pin types are available. Straight (non-locking) electrical
receptacles are inserted at a right angle to the plane of the matching device face. By contrast, locking receptacles fix
or lock a plug in place when the plug is inserted and then rotated. Electrical receptacles provide maximum voltage
and maximum current ratings. Typically, devices are designed for either single-phase or three-phase power.

Building upon its suite of products, Alpha now offers a range of service solutions designed to meet your needs.
Extended Warranty:
Alpha extended warranties are available from the time of initial purchase through to the expiry of the product’s original warranty
period. One or three year extensions offer all the terms and conditions of the original equipment warranty, for both the UPS and
batteries in your system, with battery coverage offered on a prorated basis due to the nature of wear they sustain over time.
To purchase an extended warranty, or to make a claim against the initial product warranty, you will first need to ensure your
products are registered. Additionally, product registration automatically extends your initial warranty period for an additional three
months. Please note extended warranties are only available to the original registered purchaser. Register your products at www.

Field Service Contracts:
Enjoy convenience and peace-of-mind with an annual, prepaid, on site service plan and ensure all your service needs
throughout the year are covered. Alpha offers two levels of service plans:

A trained Alpha field service representative is available to you during regular business hours and will respond to service requests
at your location by the next business day.
Service
Alpha Emergency Plan:
An Alpha field service representative is available to you during regular business hours and will respond to service requests at
your location within four hours (not available in all areas).
Whether you choose the Alpha Basic Plan or the Alpha Emergency Plan you can rest assured you are covered. Alpha service
plans ensure the people and parts will always be on hand. to provide the services you need when you need them most (not
available in all areas). Both service plans include:
• Unlimited technical phone support
• All parts and labor
• Travel expenses
• All costs associated with equipment service
* battery replacement is offered on a prorated basis due to the nature of wear they sustain over time
Optional Coverage:
The purchase of an extended warranty or field service contract also enables you to benefit from valuable service options.
Scheduled Preventative Maintenance ensures your backup solutions are always operating at optimum levels. An annual
preventative maintenance visit from an Alpha representative includes:
• Confirm proper installation of UPS
• Clean or replace air filters
• Test individual cells for voltage and impedance
• Clean, inspect and test complete solution (inverters, transformers, switches and other components)
• Perform thermal scan of solution using IR thermographs
Battery Renewal allows you to budget for battery replacement. When your batteries need replacing, Alpha will cover the cost.
