It is a great entry point for learning Chinese mandarin, and inspired me to continue studying the language as part of my degree." UCAS - Results Day This year we’re once again offering our direct contact service to applicants – designed to help those who find themselves without a university or college place on 18 August. It will allow universities and colleges to make direct contact with unplaced applicants, enabling them to speak to applicants and talk to them about a place on a relevant course; once results have been received. While the aim is to help applicants consider places they might otherwise not have been aware of, the service is entirely optional. Students who sign up will still be able to go through Clearing in the same way as previous years – if they want to. It’s important to remember they don’t have to accept any offers they receive, and should consider all their options before committing to a place. UCAS will ensure protocols and guidelines for contacting applicants are clear. All current applicants from your centre will receive an email invitation on Thursday 21 April with the option to sign up to this free service. In the event that they fulfil their offer conditions and receive a confirmed place, their name will be removed from the service and they won’t be contacted. Additional preferences Applicants can also use this sign up facility to access services that will make it easier and quicker to open a student bank account, and access other carefully selected student products and services. Opt-ins to these services can be managed through their preferences page. The Children’s Events Volunteer will be useful to anyone thinking of careers involving children or working in a learning environment. The volunteer will support Libraries NI staff in delivering activities to children in libraries, complementing the regular programmes already delivered to children. This may include supporting the new Big Summer Read and will include craft activities, organising events and storytelling. Hours are flexible but we are looking for someone willing to commit to at least two hours per week for a short period of time – perhaps during school holidays.
