11thCongress of the European Laryngological Society 3rd Joint Meeting of ELS-ABEA & ALA 2nd Meeting of Società Italiana di Laringologia June, 8th - llth 2016 Genoa, Italy w w w. e l s 2 0 1 6 . o r g Dear Colleagues, as President of the European Laryngological Society, I would like to announce the 11th Congress of our Society, to be held in Genoa, Italy, on 8th -11th June 2016. The principal goal of this conference will be to present some of the latest breakthroughs in Laryngology and related disciplines, to bring together both young and experienced scientists from all regions of the world, and to open up avenues for research and collaborations both at regional and global levels. Thanks to the active and close cooperation of the Presidential and Scientific Councils, most of the emerging scientific topics and every major aspect of our subspecialty will be presented and discussed. The Keynote Lectures will be focused, among the others, on topics like bioendoscopy, imaging, neurolaryngology, laryngotracheal stenosis, laryngeal transplantation and oncology, and followed by Round Tables with clinical cases discussion. It will be also feasible to be trained in different phonosurgical procedures and to test the most sophisticated endoscopic devices and surgical tools during the Hand-on Labs and Instructional Courses. UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF European and international experts have been invited as Members of the Faculty in order to reinforce our relationships with the ALA, ABEA, IAP, and SIL. Growing interest toward our Congress has been expressed by many Colleagues coming from India and South America. Every effort will be made to combine an outstanding scientific program with pleasant social activities in Genoa. Monterosso is the main village with hotels and beautiful houses facing the beach. Vernazza is an old picturesque village proud of its fishing tradition. It faces a tiny bay which is dominated by cliffs and by two ancient towers. Manarola is a nice village with bright colours. The fishermen houses stand on a promontory stratching in the sea and a small creek for the boats is enclosed within the rocks. Riomaggiore is an old beautiful village situated in a mervellous valley planted with vines. The village is called after the name of the brook (rio) which flows through a deep w inding gully down to a small beach. The terraces covered with flowers, the narrow slopes and the stony flight of steps are appreciated by the visitors. From Camogli, a delicious characteristic ligurian fishermen village with colorful houses, tiny alleys and a beautiful baroc church just close to the old medieal forteress. From here we reach San Fruttuoso by boat. The San Fruttuoso cove, which comprises the abbey complex and the tiny fishing village of only 42 inhabitants, is one of the most beautiful along the Portofino promontory. Built in the 10th century, the monastic church served the abbots as sepulchre. The older church, with its characteristic octagonal tower, was uncovered during excavations done for the medieval church in the 16th century, at the time of Admiral Andrea Doria. Located in a small bay running inland from a natural little port, it is rimmed by colourful old houses overlooking a tiny square. This sort of small village was founded by the Roman Empires and named Portus Delphini, or Port of the Dolphin, because of the large number of dolphinsthat inhabited the Tigullian Gulf. In 1171, together with the town Santa Margherita Ligure’, it was included in Republic of Genoa. The town’s natural harbour supported a fleet of fishing boats, but was somewhat too cramped to provide more than a temporary safe haven for the growing merchant marine of the Republic of Genoa. Shopping is high class in Portofino, with its pretty harbour and its characteristic city-centre.
