All planters perform four basic functions • Seed Trench opening • Seed Singulation • Seed Placement (at a prescribed spacing and depth) • Seed Trench closing However not all planters are engineered in the same way. When it comes to the things that really matter, speed, accuracy, efficiency and reliability, small differences can make all the difference. CH9000 Planters benefits at A glance • Innovative Double Disc Seed Opener technology, outperforms and outlasts traditional offset double disc opener designs. • Advanced Positive Air Metering (PAM™) cushions seeds in gentle low pressure, positive air, protecting delicate seed coatings, preventing seed damage 4 • Market-leading ”Edge-Drop” Seed Disc technology provides smooth and consistent movement of each individual seed from the meter to the seed trench • Proven seed trench closing technology ensures optimum seed-to-soil contact of accurately placed seeds Seed handling and singulation The fundamental difference between our planters and most other models on the market is that we use a Positive Air Metering (PAM™) system rather than a conventional vacuum or mechanical delivery system. Seed Trench opening The use of PAM™ technology has many benefits: Unlike most planters, which use an offset double disc opener, CH9000 Planters features opener discs with opposing bearings. Resulting in both discs sharing the cutting duties equally. As a result, seed openings are highly consistent and the opener discs themselves wear more evenly. Resulting in longer life and less down time. Less sticking, less blockages, less skips Forward travelForward travel Competitive Vacuum systems that use a high degree of suction can draw in contaminates, including: dust and dirt, seed debris and coating material. This can cause sticking and delay off the seed plate, and ultimately result in blockages leading to costly skips. This allows vacuum hole causing a skip. the seed to be gently gripped in different positions, orientations and relative distances to the seed dropped on either side. Dirt, debris or coating is drawn into the the vacuum hole. Less energy, lower maintenance Inches of water column 15 10 Vacuum systems require large volumes of hydraulic energy to generate sufficient vacuum for accurate seed singling. So any interruption in hydraulic flow can affect accuracy. .5 - 4 5 White Planters 0 -5 -10 Competitor A Challenger Planters require much less energy for accurate operation and there are no seals that are prone to failure. (-8)-(-10) -15 -20 Seed Placement Challenger Planters exclusive “Edge Drop” system drops the seed slightly forward from vertical. This means it only has to travel a relatively short distance, mostly in free fall, down through the seed tube. Reducing the distance and height of the drop greatly reduces the risk of ricochet and misplacement, which can be a major problem with other planters. Competitor B -25 -30 (-14) - (-26) Clean and contamination free Other Competitive Planter designs vary significantly in where the tube that delivers seed to the trench meets the seed meter. The effect this position has on smooth and consistent movement of seed from meter to trench is one of the most important differences in planter designs and has a significant impact on the accuracy of seed spacing. High vacuum Other Brands Forward travel Many vacuum systems draw air from the area around the metering unit, which can contain a significant amount of dust, causing the premature wear of seals and components. Dirt, debris or coating is drawn into the the Centrifugal vacuum force hole. Dirty air RELEASE POINT Clean air Seed drops from low point on meter Challenger Planters use low pressure, positive air that is drawn forward and above the planter, reducing the likelihood of dust contaminating the planter. Forward travel CH Planters RELEASE POINT Centrifugal force Seed drops from high point on meter 5 6 DESIGNED TO WORK HARDER, LONGER (OVER MORE HECTARES) The really clever thing about CH9000 Planters is that they are so simple. The amount of maintenance a planter needs depends very much on its design and construction. As a rule the more complex the engineering, the more often it will need servicing. One of the major benefits of PAM™ technology is that it is much easier to maintain than vacuum systems, and as there are less moving parts, there is much less to go wrong. Easy to update Simple to keep going Unlike many other planters, seed discs can be changed quickly and simply without having to dismantle and remove the entire hopper. Vacuum Vacuum delivery seals No tools required. Lessdelivery downseals time. Air seals can and do wear out over time. In most vacuum systems, even a slight diminishment in vacuum strength can have a significant impact on singulation. How Positive Air Metering works One meter. More crops • Seeds are held in each seed cell by gentle air pressure. Challenger Planters are suitable for virtually any row crop, including: Maize, Soybeans, Sunflowers, Edible Beans, Cotton, Sugar Beets, Sorghum and Peanuts. • The seed meter’s one moving part, the seed disc, rotates counterclockwise with a seed retained in each cell. No seals. No maintenance • Low-pressure, positive air enters the seed meter. • Tickler brushes located at the top of the meter remove doubles and gently drop them back into the seed sump. • The air cutoff brush shuts off the air, holding the seed in place until the cell reaches the bottom of the seed disc rotation. • Exclusive “Edge Drop” technology allows the seed to gently free-fall into the seed tube accurately and consistently. Positive Air Metering (PAM™) completely eliminates the need to annually maintain seals. Consistently, accurate, time after time Releasing the seed when it is traveling downward and rearward in the curvature of the seed tube ensues superior in-row seed spacing leading to higher yields. • Seed is released in a slight rearward motion down the curved seed tube into the seed trench. 8 Gently holding the seed in place with low-pressure, positive air prevents seed damage, maximising final yield. A Gentle Air Pressure The air flow dynamics are designed to provide uniform air pressure to all areas of the meter providing exceptional seed retaining presence in each seed cell. The superior seed retention in each seed cell provides superior seed singling accuracy. B Exclusive Edge Drop Seed Disc Design The Edge Drop seed disc provides uninterrupted seed release for precision singling of a wide variety of crops. The translucent seed disc provides visibility of the seed in the meter. Air is permitted to escape through each seed cell and around the edge of the disc as it rotates in the meter, so no seals are required. C Changing Seed Disc To change from one crop to another, simply remove the large retaining knob and change to the desired seed disc. No tools are required and there is no need to remove the hopper. D Seed Meter Throat The seed meter throat accommodates a large volume of seed. This ensures adequate seed flow is always achieved, even when using large seed or seed with a tacky surface, improving metering accuracy. E F Seed Sump Seed pick-up starts at the 6:00 o’clock position. Superior pick-up is provided by a combination of air and gravity gently pulling the seed into the seed cell. Seed is exposed to the cell for a longer period ensuring accurate seed singling. G Reliable Tickler Brushes Tickler brushes located at the top of the meter remove doubles and gently drop them back into the seed sump. H Air Cutoff Brush The air cut-off brush extends a greater distance from air cut-off to release point, to ensure positive retention of the seed after singling. The leading edge is tapered away from the perimeter of the meter with a backslash to encourage the seed to lay down and stay in the seed cell until it reaches the release point near the bottom of the seed disc rotation. I Seed Release Seed is released from the Edge Drop near the bottom of the seed disc rotation, minimising the drop. This greatly reduces the potential for interference or delay, providing accurate seed spacing. Seed Gate The seed gate controls the seed level in the meter for precise metering of a wide range of seed sizes. The gate also allows the seed flow to be shut off. So, the seed disc can be replaced quickly and easily, without removing the meter and hopper from the row unit. 9 10 THE NEW CH9000 SERIES ROW UNIT The CH9000 Series combines simple, proven engineering with the latest innovations in seed planting technology to deliver new levels of accuracy, economy, productivity and reliability. Seed Meter The entry of seed at the lowest area of the seed sump allows gravity to assist in seed pickup. A greater surface area also aids pick up providing superior seed singling. The longer tapered entry to the air cut off brush gently lays the seed down ensuring consistent retention of the seed in each seed cell. Row Unit Larger double disc seed trench openers (406mm -16-inch) allow for a deeper seed placement range. The new cast row unit assembly provides greater flex/tolerances than welded construction ensuring greater strength and precision and consistency. Ch9000 Series Row Unit Seed Depth Adjustment and Indicator The depth adjustment handle provides adjustment and visual indication of planting depth along all row units from 6mm – 115 mm (25 to 4.5 inches) in 6mm (1/4 inch) increments. Each notch aligned left and right changes the depth 12mm (1/2 inch). Turning the handle one notch at a time, side to side, increases the depth 6mm (1/4 inch). Seed depth placement numbers are molded into the casting providing an accurate visual indicator of the depth of seed placement for each row unit. Unique. patented Depth Gauge Wheel Adjusting Link The gauge wheel depth adjustment mechanism contains a threaded eye-bolt for the calibration of the seed planting depth as the seed trench disc openers wear and the diameter is reduced. This patented calibration system provides total confidence of accuracy through the entire depth range. Increased yields are experienced as the walking beam gauge wheels equalise the depth of the planted seed between the soil height on the left and right gauge wheel. Gauge Wheel Arm Shaft Bushing and Seal The new design incorporates non-metallic composite bushings and shaft seals for maintenance free performance. The seal reduces the ingestion of foreign material into the composite bushings, extending operating time improving performance, reducing maintenance and increasing productivity. Heavy Duty Gauge Wheel Arms Additional material has been added to the gauge wheel arms to increase durability and prolong operational life in tough planting conditions. No grease points are present in the gauge wheel arm pivot. Instead the pivot bearing incorporates non-metallic composite bushings and shaft seals ensuring maintenance free performance. The gauge wheel arm depth stops are cast into the row unit for consistent range of motion between row units. New double row ball bearings increase the life of the seed trench openers. Whilst, a new heavy duty cast hub (retainer) increases the retention of the bearing for greater durability. 11 KEY FEATURES A. High-Rate & SEED SMART Seed Sensors (Standard & OPTIONAL) High Rate seed sensors provide accurate monitoring at high population levels. Seed-Smart sensors learn the size of very small, high value seeds, providing accurate monitoring at high population levels (ideal for sugar beet growers). B. Staggered Closing Wheels Staggering improves the residue flow between the closing wheels and provides superior seed trench closing in no-till conditions. C. Gauge Wheel Bearings The double-row 40mm bearings and 16mm attaching bolt improves the connection between the gauge wheel and the arm, extending the service life of the gauge wheel bearing and attaching hardware. D. Seed Clip The seed tube locating clip positively centers the seed drop tube between the opener discs, reducing the risk of contact vibration, which can cause inconsistent placement and result in premature wear. E. Equalizer Arm I. Seed Depth Placement Range The equaliser arm permits lateral adjustment to obtain proper contact between the opener disc and the gauge wheels. Loosening the retaining bolt and turning the 28mm hex adjustment mechanism permits lateral adjustment of the closing wheels against the seed trench openers. The geometry of the row unit to the equaliser arm pivot remains consistent through the full range of adjustment and depth settings. The depth adjustment handle provides a visual indication of planting depth along all row units from 6mm to 114mm in 6 mm (0.25 to 4.5 inches in 1/4 inch) increments. Each notch aligned left and right changes the depth by 12mm (½ inch). Walking the handle one notch at a time, side to side, increases the depth 6mm (1/4 inch). Seed depth placement numbers are molded into the casting providing an accurate visual indicator of the depth of seed placement (in inches) for each row unit. F. Seed Meter Accessibility The open-framed row unit allows unrestricted access to the seed meter for inspection and changing the seed disc. G. Heavy-Duty Double Disc Seed Trench Openers The 406mm (16”) disc openers are now 3.5mm thick ensuring longer disc life and greater durability. Opposing bearing design allows the disc openers to share the cutting duties equally for extended life and superior cutting action. H. Heavy-Duty Wheel Arms The gauge wheel arm incorporates non-metallic composite bushings and shaft seals for maintenance free performance. The seal reduces the ingestion of foreign material into the composite bushings extending operating time and increasing the productivity. 12 J.
