This valve was factory set to 100°F maximum at a pressure of 45 PSI. The actual temperature must be checked due to waterINSTALLER temperatureWARNING & pressure deviations. This thermostatic valve has a built-in volume control. For multiple outlets JACLO recommends use of our 20682 3 function diverter valve Pressure Recommended range- 30PSI - 70 PSI Temperature Hot water inlet- 165°F Max. Marked dial range- 70°F - 120°F Safety stop- Adjustable › › › JACLO.COM THERMOSTATIC WALL VALVE | PG 3 Valve 1/2” Female pipe inlets and outelts ROUGH INSTALLATION 1 › Make sure hot and cold water is piped to the correct valves inlets. 2 › Do Not Solder Connections unless valve is kept cool and heat is no closer than 3" to body. Otherwise remove check stops and cartridge. (See check stop removal section). 3 › Postion valve so the finished wall falls between min./max. thickness mark on the rough-in shield. Caution: Valve can accommodate walls up to 1" thick. For walls up to 2" thick order a DUAL THERM_ EXT Kit (See Page 2). 4 › A twin elbow is required for tub/shower installations (see below). For shower only installations the twin elbow is not required. (See below). 5 › Install tub spout. 6 › Remove rough-in shield & tag (see Fig. 2, Page 5). 7 › Before pressurizing system for testing, make sure that both check stops are in the open position and the volume control is in the closed position. 8 › Once system is pressurized turn on water by opening volume control valve. Check for leaks. To adjust temperature, see section on limit stop and temperature setting. JACLO.COM THERMOSTATIC WALL VALVE | PG 4 LIMIT STOP & TEMPERATURE SETTING 1 › Make sure stop ring notch and cartridge notch are aligned with line on spindle spline (see Fig. 2A). Close volume control. Make sure hot & cold check valve/stops are open by rotating until the open arrows point to the center of the valve. (See Fig. 2). Screw sleeve (9) onto valve body until it bottoms tight on plastic stop ring. 2 › Open volume control 3 › Valve is set to 100°F max. Pressure and temperatures vary. Check 100°F setting with thermometer. TO RE-ADJUST TEMPERATURE SEE BELOW 1 › To reset hot water temperature: Remove both limit stops. Open volume control valve & run water for 5 minutes. Using a thermometer in the water flow, rotate cartridge spindle counter-clockwise to the highest temperature desired (110°F max. Recommended to avoid scalding) and let it stabilize. 2 › Carefully replace the hot limit stop (without rotating the spindle), such that stop’s bent leg is resting against the stop ring shoulder (Fig.3) 3 › Rotate the spindle clockwise gently, until the water becomes cold and spindle stops rotating. Do not force spindle past that position! 4 › Replace cold limit stop (without rotating the spindle), such that stop’s bent leg is resting against the stop ring shoulder (see Fig. 4) JACLO.COM THERMOSTATIC WALL VALVE | PG 5 DIAL POINTER, TRIM & HANDLE INSTALLATION 1 › Rotate the spindle until the temperature of water stabilizes at 100°F. 2 › Push the dial pointer (8) into sleeve (9), with the arrow up in the 12 o’clock position (Fig.6). Install dial assembly (6) over the spindle until it bottoms (without rotating it), aligning the 100°F marking to the arrow of the insert (8). 3 › Place the self adhesive backed foam strip (24) onto the inside surface of the traditional front plate (18) only. Position the opening in the down position to prevent water infiltration. Slide front plate (18) or (19) gently over sleeve (9) until firmly seated against wall. Place a bead of silicone around the outer edge of front plate to secure it in position and fill any gaps. 4 › Install handle and secure with setscrew (see Fig.7). Do not overtighten. NOTE: If valve is installed too deep, order extension kit DUAL THERM-EXT to extend handle height & sleeve by 1". (See Page 2). JACLO.COM THERMOSTATIC WALL VALVE | PG 6 TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE PROBLEM Water leaks from shower head / tub spout when the volume control is shut off. Water is hot or cold but not mixing. Can not adjust water temperature properly. POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION The shower head is trapping water behind the faceplate. Remove shower head and clean out the holes in the faceplate. Reinstall shower head. The volume control valve has been installed incorrectly. Arrow on side of volume control should be pointing away from the thermostatic valve. If arrow can not be seen, remove trim and cartridge. Look into the valve cavity. The location of the larger hole indicates the outlet of the volume control valve, the volume control is installed incorrectly. Refer to installation sheets for proper installation. The ceramic disc in the cartridge of the volume control valve has been damaged. Replace with a new cartridge Thermostatic valve is installed upside down or the supply lines to the thermostatic valve are reversed. Refer to installation sheets for proper installation. Check valves / stops are not opened all the way. Remove trim and make sure the arrows on the check valve / stops are facing toward the center of the thermostatic valve. Thermostatic cartridge is damaged. If cartridge spindle rotates more than 270° (DO NOT FORCE), replace cartridge. Debris in screens of thermostatic cartridge. Remove thermostatic cartridge and clean screens. Limit stops are not set properly. Refer to installation instruction for setting limit stops. Dial assembly is not calibrated. Set water temperature with a thermometer and adjust dial assembly to reflect the measured temperature. Refer to installation sheet. Check valve (s) / stops are not opened all the way. Install with new check valve (s) / stop (s). Refer to check valves / stops removal and installation section of the installation sheets. Check valve (s) / stops have been damaged. Install new check valves / stops. Refer to check valves / stops removal and installation section of the installations sheets Debris in screens of thermostatic cartridge. Remove thermostatic cartridge and clean screens. Check valves / stops are not opened all the way. Remove trim and make sure the arrows on the check valve / stops are facing toward the center of the thermostatic valve. Cold water in nearby faucet is lukewarm. Check valve (s) / stops have been damaged or filled with debris. Install new check valves / stops. Refer to check valves / stops removal and installation section of the installations sheets Thermostatic valve is working properly, but the water is not hot enough, but water in nearby faucet is hot enough. Limit stops are not set properly. Refer to installation instruction for setting limit stops. Boiler temperature not set high enough. Thermostatic valve has cold water mixing with the hot water at all times, so the water temperature on the boiler will need to be increased to get the desired temperature. CAUTION: increasing the temperature will affect all plumbing throughout the system. Low flow of mixed water. JACLO.COM THERMOSTATIC WALL VALVE | PG 7 Valve maintenance › CAUTION: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SERVICE THE THERMOSTATIC VALVE UNLESS VOLUME CONTROL VALVES ARE SHUT OFF. OTHERWISE SERIOUS CHECK VALVE / STOP DAMAGE WILL OCCUR. THERMO CARTRIDGE REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Refer to Fig. 1, Page 2 1 › First - Shut off the volume control valve (s). (See pg. 4) 2 › Second - Shut off the check valve / stops by rotating each one half a turn (180°), until the OFF arrows point in the direction of the water flow (toward the center of the valve). (See Fig.2 Page 5). 3 › Open a lower volume control valve slightly to relieve system pressure and drain. 4 › Remove handle, dial assembly, limit stops, front plate sleeve with insert and the stop rings. 5 › Remove cartridge locknut and pull cartridge out. Rotate slightly to aid removal. Flush any debris from screen. 6 › To re-install cartridge, apply silicone grease to ‘O’ rings and insert in valve, rotating slightly. Orient it with its notch up (12 o’clock position - see Fig.2 Page 5). Secure with locknut (3), using a 1-1/4" wrench (do not overtighten). 7 › Slide plastic stop ring (4) over the cartridge such that stop ring’s notch is aligned to the notch on cartridge (12 o’clock position - see Fig. 2 Page 5). 8 › Do not pressurize yet. Make sure the volume control valves are shut. This is a critical step to eliminate damage to check stop seals. 9 › Open check stops and check for leaks. Volume control valves can now be open. › CAUTION: The temperature limit stop (5) and dial (8) must be re-set - see limit stop and temperature setting before replacing trim. DIAL POINTER, TRIM & HANDLE INSTALLATION 1 › Shut off hot and cold water main supply valves. Remove handle, dial and front plate (18). 2 › Open a lower volume control valve slightly to relieve system pressure and drain. 3 › Unscrew the locknuts (12). Pull the check-stops (11) out while rotating slightly. Flush the cavities to remove any debris. 4 › Check, clean and if necessary replace ‘O’ rings and/or the entire check stop. Grease lightly with silicone valve grease. Make sure seat (17) moves freely. 5 › Insert check-stops (11) rotating while pushing and turn with OPEN arrows pointing in the direction of the water flow (toward the center of valve). Stop will resist seating all the way in. This is normal. 6 › Screw locknuts (12) until they bottom seating check stops. 7 › Most important - Close the volume control valve (s). Restore hot and cold water and check for leaks. › CAUTION: After performing any routine maintenance, the temperature limit stop and dial must be reset. See limit stop and temperature setting (Page 5) & dial pointer (Page 6). Flush for 30 seconds to remove any debris from lines. 5 › Remove flush adapters (hot & cold). 6 › Reinstall check/valve stop (hot & cold) and stop nut. Rotate to make installation easier. JACLO.COM THERMOSTATIC WALL VALVE | PG 9 JACLO PRODUCT CARE Thank you for selecting a JACLO product. In order to maintain the high quality finish of the product you have purchased, please adhere to the following product care instructions: Cleaning metal parts: For routine cleaning simply use a soft damp cloth and common household soap, then rinse and dry. Proper care of your product is important because most water contains calcium that deposits on surfaces, forming unpleasant spots. This can be avoided by routine cleaning and drying after every use. Use only mild soap based detergents. Never use abrasive cleaners, bleach, disinfectants or cleaning products containing alcohol, ammonia, hydrochloric or phosphoric acids as they will damage the product finish. Cleaning rubber nibs: Some JACLO showerheads and handshowers are equipped with “Easy Clean” rubber nibs. Over time calcium may build up in the nibs and diminish the performance of your shower product. Rubbing your fingers over the nibs occasionally while operating your shower product will clear the calcium build up.
