Audico Avec digital Public Address and Voice Evacuation system
AUDICO ADA 8x8 CENTRAL UNIT
The real heart of the digital Audico Avec, Public Address and Voice Evacuation system, is the Audico
ADA 8x8 central unit.
The ADA 8x8 is a very effective and compact unit. It
has versatile analog and digital audio inputs, effective
digital signal processing circuitry and matrix, built-in
prerecorded spoken message player and even 8 digital 150W power amplifiers. The Audico Avec accommodates also system surveillance according to EN
60849 standard. It’s certified by authorized certification body.
All this in a single 2U high 19” device.

MAINS INLET AND FUSES
24VDC OPERATION VOLTAGE OUTPUT
ADA 8x8 is connected to 230V operation voltage
using standard mains plug.
The 24DC power output is used to supply power to
the ALT 8x8 line transfer unit. The same voltage is
used also for priority voltage. Priority voltage is used
to bypass possible attenuators in rooms during paging or alarm to ensure the message is heard everywhere in the building.
ADA 8x8 contains two separate parallel low voltage
power units. Both power supplies have dedicated
fuse at the rear panel.
ADA 8x8 must be equipped with external UPS device
when erecting a system according to the EN 60849
standard.

SPEAKER OUTPUTS
ADA 8x8 contains 8 pcs 150W digital power amplifiers.
8 Ohms loudspeakers may be connected directly to
the speaker outputs. When 50-70-100V speakers
are used the ADA 8x8 must be equipped with ALT
8x8 line transfer unit. It converts the 8 Ohms outputs
to desired line voltage.
DIGITAL OPTICAL INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
(SPDIF)
ADA 8x8 can handle digital audio signals directly.
Digital audio is brought to ADA 8x8 by using optical
SPDIF-cable.
The optical inputs are activated by configuration software, the corresponding analog inputs must be disabled.
SPDIF input 1 is parallel to analog inputs 1 and 2,
SPDIF 2 is parallel to analog inputs 5 and 6.
The ALT 8x8 provides also priority voltage outputs,
individually for each line (24VDC).
RS-232 INTERFACE
FAN
The RS232 interface at the rear is used for monitoring the running of the ADA 8x8’s operation system.
Suitable software is for example Windows Hyperterminal. ADA 8x8 can be controlled thru USB port
using special RS232/USB adapter.
The ADA 8x8 is equipped with a fan. The rotation of
fan is also monitored and any fault is reported to surveillance system.
SYSTEM & LOCAL OVERRIDE AUDIO OUT
MIC/LINE INPUTS
Both paging and alarm signals can be configured to
these outputs. The outputs are mainly intended to
feed paging audio to external amplifers or other systems.
7 pcs microphone/line inputs.The connector is removable 3-pins plug. Each input has own input sensitivity trimmer. The mic/line selection is done using the
configuration software.

SYSTEM BUS & LINK
The ALT 8x8 delivers priority voltage to wanted lines
according the data from ADA 8x8.
Audico Avec devices are connected together using
either system or local bus. The devices connected to
the system bus can be used to control all ADA 8x8’s
in a single installation. Maximum number of devices
in a single bus is 32.
DEVICE ADDRESS DIP-SWITCH
Every ADA 8x8 in a system must have own individual
device address in the same order as they appear on
the configuration software. The first main unit has
address one, then two etc.
CONTROL OUTPUTS
LOCAL BUS
The local bus is used to connect devices that are
intended to be used only locally within the cover area
of a single ADA 8x8. Typically local paging unit and
volume controllers are such locally operated devices.
The control outputs may be configured to activate on
diverse situations, like paging, alarm, fault-indication,
firebell muting etc. The output is open-collector type.
USB-MEMORY STICK CONNECTOR
CONTROL INPUTS
The control inputs may be used to active different
ADA 8x8 actions like activate a paging, change preset, play message, alarm etc.
The alarm and other messages are stored in wavformat to a USB-memory stick. The stored sound files
can be played as chime, alarm or information message triggered by timer, paging, control input or a fault
etc.
There is another USB - jack inside the ADA 8x8 for
non-removable messages.

The Audico Avec product family is certified according
to EN-60849 standard (Sound System for Emergency
Purposes).

Requirement for Voice Evacuation System’s Main
User
Standard EN-60849 sets also guidelines for the user
of the installed system. The main user must take care
of system maintenance, testing, keep the logbook
and ensure all other users are well trained to use the
system.
We have prepared a booklet guiding the user as well
the installation and service companies to set-up and
run a system according the EN standard.
