Double Handed J/88 UK Class Association Championship 2016 - Notice of Series 1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY 1.1. For all races in the Double Handed J/88 championship the Royal Southampton Yacht Club is the Organising Authority. The Series is administered by the J/88 UK Class Association based on the results published by the RSYC. 1.2. The RSYC will issue a Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for each event. 1.3. SCHEDULE OF RACES All races are organised by the Royal Southampton Yacht Club and Entries can be made via their website. Please select ‘J88 DH Regatta’ for races 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 & 2.5 and select DH Nationals on the same site for the races in 2.4. 2.1 09 Apr Solent Spring Double (Inshore) 1 Race 2.2 25 Jun West Princessa (Alongshore) 1 Race 2.3 30 Jul Poole Bar Double (Alongshore) 1 Race 2.4 16/17 Sep National Doulblehanded Championships 3 Races 2.5 15 Oct Solent Autumn Double 1 Race 3. ELIGIBILITY AND CLASSES 3.1. The J/88 UK Class Association Championship is open to J/88s whose owners are paid up members of the Class Association 3.2. All boats will be in one class and races scored as ‘one design’ i.e. zero rated. 3.3 All boats taking part in the Double Handed Championship shall comply with Class Rules but with only two persons on board, one of which one must be the Class Association Member. If auto-helms are permitted by the SI’s for the race then auto-helms are permitted to be used for that race in the series. 4. ENTRY 4.1. No separate entry for the championship is required. All paid up members of the Class Association whose boats appear in the published results will be entered into the series. 5. SCORING 5.1. Any eligible boat entering in one of the nominated races will automatically be entered into the Championship. 5.2. The Series will consist of the seven races listed at Paragraph 2 above. 5.3. Finishing times for each race will be used to generate J/88 class finishing positions on a level rating basis. These results will be converted into a race score using the RRS Low Points System 5.4. Where a boat does not enter an event, is scored DNC for a race or for any other reason does not receive a points score from the organising authority, she shall be awarded a score of the number of J/88s entering the event plus 3. 5.5. Any event that is cancelled or for which no results are published will be discounted from the series. This overrides the provision of Paragraph 5.4. 5.6. A boat’s Series score will be the total of her best 4 scores for all races other than any discounted under Paragraph 5.5. 5.7. Boats that change ownership or are chartered by a different charterer during a series will be scored separately for each owner/charterer. 5.8. New boats that are delivered during the season, or used boats bought during the season, will be scored in the Series without being penalised under Paragraph 5.4. Instead, the score for each event after the date of delivery of such a boat will be averaged and that average awarded for events prior to her delivery. 5.9. Series ties will be broken using RRS A8. 6. RESULTS, PRIZES AND PRIZEGIVING 6.1. Race results will be produced by the RSYC. Prizes may be awarded for particular races by the RSYC, details of any race prizes will be in the Sailing Instructions for that day. 6.2. The J/88 UK Class Association will compile the Championship results, email them to members after the last event and publish them on its Facebook page. 6.4. A series trophy will be awarded to the overall series winner. 7. Risk Statement. Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone” Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. The attention of competitors is drawn to the provision of event Sailing Instructions regarding risk. The administrators of this series are not the organising authority for any aspect of the events and bear no responsibility towards the risk of participation.
