Welcome to Kids on Campus 2016!
We are very excited that you have decided to join us for a summer of creativity and innovation at
the Rochester Institute of Technology. We have been working hard to prepare many interesting
and challenging workshops for our students.
Kids on Campus has been a part of RIT since 1983, making it the longest running summer
program on campus. Every year we continue to grow, adding new opportunities for our students.
This summer we are very pleased to announce several new courses in including: cybersecurity
advanced, 3d graphics modelling and restaurant management experience!
Here is a link to the NYS Department of Health’s Children's Camp in New York State brochure. With
this letter you will find the daily KOC schedule, FAQ and immunization form. When you registered
online you were prompted for most of the information we previously had to solicit via paper forms,
including insurance information, swimming permission, extended day registration and end of day
self-sign out permission. If for some reason you need to amend any of the information you
submitted, you can email changes to kocwww@rit.edu but be sure to include the camper’s name
and your contact information in case we have follow up questions.
We do need an updated, valid immunization form valid only if dated after July 31, 2015. Children
will not be allowed to participate in camp if we do not have this on their first day of camp:

Frequently Asked Questions
What should students bring?
Be prepared with sturdy footwear suitable for walking, flip-flops are strongly discouraged. During
rainy days, please bring a jacket or umbrella as we will be walking outside to go to lunch.
On swimming days, please bring an appropriate bathing suit, pool-side footwear, and a towel. A
bag for wet swimwear and a lock for the locker room is also strongly recommended.
The Swim Schedule is determined each day for the following day.
Your child does not have to go to the swimming activity if they do not want to, and even if you gave
them permission. At every morning gathering, campers tell us which activity they want to
participate in during recreation hour – if they are on that day’s swim list and they have their swim
gear, they can opt to go swimming during recreation. A note will be sent home with any child
eligible to participate in the next day’s swimming activity. The option to swim the next day at
activity hour is also provided that you gave them swimming permission during registration.
Personal Items
Kids on Campus is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Electronic distractions (i.e. phones,
tablets, handheld games, etc.) are prohibited during the workshop. If you must bring electronics,
they should remain silent and stowed except during recreation and lunch breaks. Again, a lock for
the locker room is also strongly recommended on swimming days (especially if carrying
electronics, medications or other personal items).
What is self-sign out?
You can opt to give your child permission to self-sign out during online registration for workshops.
Students with self-sign out do not need a parent or guardian present to be dismissed from Kids on
Campus at the end of the day. This makes pick-up a little more convenient for you, as you may
choose to wait in your car for your child to walk outside.
We station at least one staff member outside at the sidewalk to ensure students are supervised as
they leave the building. You should give your child clear instructions on where you want them to
meet you if you decide to give them self-sign out permission, especially if your arrival will be
delayed beyond the time that staff is present and other campers are plentiful at release time. Also
clarify where they should wait for you in the event of bad weather.
Self-sign out or parental-sign out will be applied at 3pm or at 5pm if the child is registered in the
Extended Day Program. Please note: students with self- sign out permission at 3pm and students
requiring parental sign out at 3pm may not wait in the Extended Day Program room.
What if my child is absent or is arriving late or leaving early?
Please call 585.496.4562 between 8:00 and 9:00 AM to report an absence for the day. Please
notify us ahead of time for late arrivals and early dismissals. Your child may be attending an
activity in a different building on campus and need to be escorted to the standard pick-up location.
We ask that you plan ahead by contacting us.
Where should I park?

Please park in a non-reserved space in Parking Lot J. If you are just dropping-off or picking-up
your child, you may drive up to the top of Parking Lot J, close to Golisano. In case of a parking lot
closure, Parking Lot S is a close alternative. Visit http://maps.rit.edu
What if my child needs to take medication?
Staff members do not dispense medication. If you are not comfortable with your child taking his/
her medication without adult supervision, you are welcome to come dispense the medication when
necessary. Please contact us if you have questions: kocwww@rit.edu
