PARTS SUPPORT FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
Hobson Industries specialise in the Land Rover marque and are pioneers of a process known as Asset
Management. The Asset Managed process comprise a series of inspection, measurement and quality
control procedures enabling original equipment cast assets to be embodied into vehicles and assemblies or
supplied as individual components.
Overview
At Hobsons, Asset Management is split into 3 areas –
1. Vehicles - including Upgrades and Modifications
2. Exchange Scheme Support and Provisioning
3. General Parts Support for Maintenance and Repair
Taking an overview of Asset Management, all 3 areas combine into a common support strategy, with each
element providing, from alternative aspects, the vehicle repairability and through life support elements
which encompass the whole Land Rover vehicle. This complete support package provisions fleet availability
and support with the benefit of reduced through life costs.
If Land Rover cannot supply any “key non-current military parts”, Land Rover advise existing legacy
Government and Ministries customers to use an alternative approach named as “Asset Managed Parts”
available solely through Hobsons. The purpose of this alliance is to ensure continued supply of high quality
genuine parts to support Land Rover legacy vehicle fleet users through to disposal.

Vehicles
The Asset Managed vehicle strategy is such that cast assets are utilised for rebuild and support issues
enabling Top-Up programmes to be considered to maintain fleet levels and utilise common base platforms.
With the focus on Through Life support provisioning, fleet availability can be kept to optimum levels.
The reconfiguration of redundant platforms can also be looked at with Whole Fleet Asset Management to
achieve variations of vehicle operational roles while achieving a common base platform.
By the configuration of fleets to a singular common base platform, the associated Exchange Scheme
Support and repair schedules can be better planned allowing the whole fleet support requirement to be
viewed as one complete asset and managed through to the vehicle End of Life

Exchange Unit Scheme Support and Provisioning
By placing the whole Major and Minor unit repair pool into Asset Management, remanufacturing
philosophies and processes will increase the repair pool scope, improve unit availability, increase reliability,
reduce vehicle downtime and reduce Through Life costs.
At Hobsons every remanufactured unit is warranted for 12 months as new production units.

Hobson Industries has upgraded and re-armoured Land Rover Defender and other vehicles for International
Military customers for many years. Weight constraints of the Land Rover chassis has focused Hobson’s
attention on lightweight protective armour for ballistic and mine blast solutions.
The appliqué armour protection kit for the Land Rover Defender provides ballistic protection to 180º plus
and is specifically designed for a two man fit away from main support facilities. The kit meets B6 protection
levels and requires no welding and is bolted on to the vehicle structure using the tools provided with the kit.
It is designed with rapid deployment in mind and can be installed within 3 – 4 hours.
To aid serviceability and repairability, the armour protection kit components are individually codified, can be
demanded ex-stock and comprise:



Full front protection for the bulkhead, foot wells,
windscreen up to the windscreen line to the existing
vehicle hard top allowing the original hard top to be re-fitted.
Full driver and passenger door protection. Angular
protection within the door support system gives protection
to driver and passenger head for oblique angle impacts.
Driver and passenger seat shields covering the upper
torso and head enhancing ballistic protection levels to
the front occupants.

The armoured kit in its entirety is totally interchangeable between the same vehicle types and is designed to
be flat pack air portable. All necessary tools and fitting instructions are supplied with each kit enabling
flexibility of operational delivery, particularly beneficial to units that do not have workshop facilities to back
up the unit operations.
The kit has full logistic and through life support and is available for fitment to RHD or LHD vehicle variants.
The personal weapons stowage and other standard fittings within the cab area are unaffected.

THETIS The armoured public order vehicle from Hobsons
THETIS has been designed and developed around the requirement for a protected vehicle to work within a high
threat public order situation where a full range of rifle and hand gun projectiles, petrol bombs and other
improvised devices directed at the vehicle along with the growing presence of lesser non lethal acts against the
vehicle and its occupants.
The public order vehicle is constructed from ballistic steel to defeat munitions up to B6 spec with the additional
spall liner to achieve B7 and in military terms, the vehicle meets the requirement of STANAG Level 1 for both
blast and ballistic protection.
The braking system is specifically developed in conjunction with Alcon for the 4 tonne Gross Vehicle Weight
(GVW) vehicle and is to be used in conjunction with a tyre the footprint of which is in the area of the tyre size of
235 / 85 / 16 or better.

Transparent Armour: One piece front windscreen for improved vision, the glass is in the form of a cassette to
allow rapid replacement during operational service. All transparent armour fitted has sufficient edge protection to
fixed panels to maintain ballistic integrity
Front Wings/Bonnet & Grilles: The Wings accommodate a standard Land Rover lighting arrangement and the
headlamps are capable of the standard full range of adjustments; The Front Grille is designed to fully protect the
vehicle radiator and air conditioning and air cooler systems; Front Wing lighting clusters are fitted with protective
grilles; Rear Lighting clusters are fitted with protective grilles; Vehicle Wing Mirrors are shatterproof and fixed to
fold flat.
Interior
Front Passenger Compartment: The vehicle front bulkhead, foot wells, seat box, floor plates and gearbox
tunnel is constructed as the main body shell and further protected with Line-X Fire Retardant coating covering
the interior surfaces.
Rear Passenger Area: The floor and seating area is constructed as the main body and further protected with
Line-X Fire Retardant coating covering the interior surfaces.
Seats: New Front Seats; Rear individual metal framed seats with fire retardant padding fitted with inertia rear
lap belts. Air Conditioning interior.
Fire Protection: PyroFPS Fire Protection System; Vehicle Fire Protection enhancements including fuel lines,
brake hosing using stainless steel braided hose with fire protected covering.
Tyre size: 235/85 /16 Michelin O/R fitted with Tyron Bands on Land Rover XD Heavy Duty Rims
Suspension: Heavy Duty springs fitted as standard; Anti-Roll Bar modification with large diameter bars fitted as
standard; Engine/Steering arm under body deflection plate is fitted to front chassis area.
