PHYS 352: Statistical Mechanics (Spring 2016)

Homeworks will be given every two weeks. Homework will contribute 2/3 of the grade, final
exam 1/3.
There is no required textbook for the course, but following books are recommended
• L. D. Landau and E. M. Lifshitz, Statistical Physics part I (3rd ed., Pergamon Press,
1980)
• K. Huang, Statistical Mechanics (2nd ed., Wiley, 1987).
• M. Kardar Statistical Mechanics of Particles (Cambridge University Press, 2007)
In addition, a number of excellent lectures notes are available on the internet. Those include
lectures notes by Mehran Kardar (MIT), David Tong (Cambridge, UK), Dan Arovas (UCSD).
