Categories: 2.1 Thirukkural / konRai vendan Recital (Kural/konRai vEndan oppuviththal) 2.2 Public Speaking Competition (Pechu potti) 2.3 Reading Competition (Vaasithal potti) 2.4 Writing Competition (Katturaip potti) 2.5 Drawing Competition (Oviyap potti) 2.6 Spelling bee (Tamil Thenni) 2.7 Fancy Dress (Maaru Vedapp potti) 3. Date, Time & Venue: October 24, 2015 Saturday – 1.00pm to 5.00pm Location: Duluth High School, 3737 Brook Rd, NW, Duluth, GA 30096. 4. Rules & Regulations: Will be posted in on GATS web site and will be mailed to registered competitors. 6. Last date for Registration: October 17th – 2015 7. On the spot registration fee $ 10 (time:12-12.30) 8. Each kid will participate any three categories only Rules and Regulations: Rules/Guidelines for Pechu (Public Speaking) potti: 1. Speech must be based on one of the given theme. (For Ex: தமிழ் மமொழி மட்டுமல்லொமல் includes Tamil Culture, Temples, Sports, Festivals, Language, Literature & Art) 2. 60% weightage will be given to the Pronunciation, spontaneous flow from the memory and the confidence of the contestant. 3. 20% weightage will be given to the content of the speech. 4. 20% weightage will be given to the posture, presentation and expression of the contestant. 5. The contestant will not be allowed to refer any material during the competition. 6. Parents will be allowed to view the competition as audience. 7. Any prompting by the parents during the competition will render the contestant disqualified. 8. Duration of the speech should be for a. 3-5 years - 3 mins. b. 6-9 years – 3 mins c. 10-13 years - 5 mins d. 14+ - 6 mins 9. Judges’ decisions are final. Rules/Guidelines for Vaasiththal (Reading in Tamil) pottti: 1. 40% weightage will be given to the Pronunciation and the confidence of the contestant. 2. 40% weightage will be given to the clarity and loudness of the contestant. 3. 20% weightage will be given to the posture, presentation and expression of the contestant. 4. The contestant will be provided with the material to be read on the spot. 5. Parents will not be allowed to view the competition as audience. 6. Judges’ decisions are final. Rules/Guidelines for Katturai (Writing in Tamil) potti: 1. Essay must be based on one of the theme provided. (For Ex: தமிழ் மமொழி மட்டுமல்லொமல் includes Tamil Culture, Temples, Sports, Festivals, Language, Literature, Art) 2. 80% weightage will be given to the content and words used in the essay. 3. 20% weightage will be given to the handwriting and the neatness of the essay 4. The contestant will be not allowed to refer any material during the competition. 5. Paper will be provided; all other writing tools need to be brought by the contestant. 6. Duration of the competition is 45 minutes - will be enforced strictly. a. Ages - 3-5 essays should be within 100 words. b. Ages - 6-9 essays should be within 150 words. c. Ages - 10-13 essays should be within 200 words. d. Ages - 14 & above essays should be within 250 words. 7. Parents will not be allowed inside the room where the competitions are held. 8. Judges decisions are final. Rules/Guidelines for Kural or Kondrai Vendhan oppuviththal (Thirukkural Recital) potti: 1. Pick the ‘Thirukkural’ or KonRai Vendhan from the given list. Thirukkural can be of any order. But Kondrai Vendhan has to be in order. 2. 60% weightage will be given to the Pronunciation, spontaneous flow from the memory and the confidence of the contestant. 3. 30% weightage will be given to the clarity and loudness of the contestant. 4. 10% weightage will be given to the posture, presentation and expression of the contestant. 5. The contestant will not be allowed to refer any material during the competition. 6. Parents will not be allowed to view the competition as audience. 7. The kids have to recite the following number of ‘Kurals’ based on the age group: a. Ages - 3-5 should recite 10 kural or 20 konrai vendan b. Ages - 6-9 should recite 15 kural or 30 konrai vendan c. Ages - 10-13 should recite 20 kural or 40 konrai vendan d. Ages - 14 & Above 16 should recite 25 kural or 50 konrai vendan 8. Judges’ decisions are final. Rules/Guidelines for Oviyap (Drawing) potti: 1. Art must be based on given theme. (For Ex: தமிழ் மமொழி மட்டுமல்லொமல் includes Tamil Culture, Temples, Sports, Festivals, Literature, Art) 2. The drawing should be on a canvas/poster board. 3. The canvas/poster board should be of the following dimension 15inchesX15inches. 4. Any type of drawing material can be used ex: pencil, Pen, crayon, watercolor etc. 5. All supplies should be brought in by the contestants. 6. Model pictures will be allowed during the competition. 7. Duration of the competition is 45 minutes - will be enforced strictly. 8. Parents will not be allowed inside the room where the competitions are held. 9. Judges’ decisions are final. Rules/Guidelines for Maaru Vedapp (Fancy Dress) potti: 1. Kids need to dress up based on any one of the theme provided. ( தமிழ் மமொழி மட்டுமல்லொமல் includes Tamil Culture, Temples, Sports, Festivals, Literature, Art) speech should be for a. 3-5 years – only 2 sentences b. 6-9 years – only 5 sentences Rules/Guidelines for Spelling Bee competition. 1. 100% weightage will be given to the correct spelling of the words. 2. Alphabet (Tamil) will be displayed for reference. a) age 6-9 - all the 2 and 3 letter words from the list. b) age 10-13 - all the 2,3 and 4 letter words from the list c) age -14 and above - all the words from the list. 3. The contestant will not be allowed to refer any material during the competition. 4. Duration of the competition is One hour - will be enforced strictly.
