Intrinsically Safe Multifunction Calibrator
MC5-IS Intrinsically Safe (EEx ia IIC T4) Multifunction Calibrator is specifically designed for
use in potentially explosive environments, such as oil refineries, chemical & petrochemical
plants etc. where inflammable gases or explosive dust may be present. MC5-IS is a modular
all-in-one multifunction calibrator that can be equipped with all the modules and options
presented in this brochure.
ELECTRICAL MODULE (E)
The electrical module (E), which is galvanically isolated from all the other modules, measures
electrical quantities including frequency. Additionally it counts pulses and detects the state of
switches (opening and closing values).
The E module hosts the optional HART® modem which allows digital communication with
instruments which support the HART® protocol.

PRESSURE MODULES (INT & EXT)
MC5-IS can have up to three (3) internal pressure modules ranging from -1 to 160 bar (-14.5
to 2400 psi). All the internal pressure modules, up to INT6C, are equipped with relief valves
as overpressure protection. This together with the possibility to also use external pressure
modules, gives MC5-IS a unique pressure calibration capability up to 1000 bar (15 000 psi).
A unit fitted with the barometric module allows all other pressure modules to also measure
absolute pressure.
The pressure modules incorporate advanced pressure measurement technology, which means
that only a few modules are needed to cover a very wide pressure range with excellent
uncertainty.

TEMPERATURE AND ELECTRICAL MODULE (ET)
With the temperature and electrical module (ET) you can simulate and measure a great
variety of RTD’s and thermocouples. Additionally you can generate electrical signals including
frequency and pulses as well as measure and generate / simulate mV and ohm signals.
Both the ITS90 and IPTS68 International Temperature Scales are selectable from the
configuration menu in the MC5-IS.
The ET module hosts the reference junction (RJ) module. The RJ module operates using
advanced temperature measurement technology providing very accurate internal cold junction
compensation when measuring or simulating thermocouples. The unique design of the RJ
module makes it possible to use practically any connector type or plain TC wires.

MC5-IS is a calibrator, which can be configured to fulfill basically all the needs of the user.
MC5-IS can be configured as a simple precision pressure indicator or as a documenting
multifunction pressure-temperature-electrical calibrator, which communicates with calibration
software and includes Hart® communication and datalogging.

channels simultaneously. The datalogging results can be downloaded into a computer
through the RS port for further examination. MC5-IS can datalog more than 10000
measurement points.
HART® Communication
allows MC5-IS to communicate with HART® instruments by supporting those HART® read/
write commands typically used during the calibration process.

These lightweight, rugged hand pumps are ideal for generation of
pressure/vacuum. Each hand pump comes with a variable volume
adjustment knob and variable vent knob for precise pressure/
vacuum control. Three pumps cover the range from vacuum to
700 bar / 10,000 psi.
Calibration Software
Beamex calibration software automates the creation of instrument
calibration procedures which then can be downloaded to the
MC5-IS. Depending upon user requirements, either QD3 Quality
Documenter or QM6 Quality Manager can be used with MC5-IS to
satisfy the requirements of ISO 9000, QS-9000, OSHA, FDA , etc.
