He went on to study agriculture at the local university and through an exchange program, pursued a Masters degree in agriculture in Minnesota. “I realized carpentry was my passion, so I moved to New York and became an apprentice carpenter.” Restoring the 1925 landmark for another lifetime During his ten years with the company, Tad has worked on numerous residential and commercial projects as a carpenter and foreman, including Palm Beach Town Hall, and many Palm Beach residences. It was at one of the residential projects where he made his mark. “A very large window, surrounded by beautiful stone work, was leaking and the seal needed to be replaced,” said Tad. “We were under a time constraint, so there was no time to take out the window. I took the measurements, went home to my workshop that evening, built the seal and then brought it in the next day and placed it in the original window.” According to Gene Parker, executive vice president,“this dedication and commitment exemplifies the company’s brand promise and reinforces our employees’ passion for going above and beyond.” Welcome New Team Members Barbara L. One could say it represents how a person walks, talks, laughs, dresses, looks, acts and performs their job or how a company provides a solid work environment, employee benefits, customer service, Dale Hedrick, President quality, commitment and vision. At Hedrick Brothers Construction, we believe “Everything Speaks” defines our employees, our work and our company, so 2010 has been themed “Everything Speaks” for our organization. I wrote in my last column that this year was going to be filled with opportunity, as well as challenges for our industry. But with new beginnings, new projects and continued education, we will continue to Bring Visions to Reality. It has been a challenging year, but as a team we have been committed to building not only quality projects, but also employee growth, from a personal and professional level. Case in point is the Hedrick Brothers Construction Wellness Initiative, which grew this year to include the “Health & Fitness Challenge.” Sixteen employees participated in this three-month program, which combined physical activities with nutrition tips. Teams accrued points individually through such daily activities as eating breakfast, not eating after 8 p.m., drinking plenty of water, having “me time” and exercising. Weekly activities included family/friends fun, losing pounds, and following nutrition suggestions for healthy eating. We provided incentives for exercise, training and nutrition programs. ACE MENTOR PROGRAM COVER STORY PROJECT UPDATES Palm Beach Town Hall Restoration and Renovation • An oceanfront, Palm Beach residence is complete after an extensive exterior renovation including window and French door replacement, cast stone replacement and reroof to both the Main House and Carriage House, construction of a new bridge connecting the Main House to the Carriage House, replacement of pool and addition of a new fountain and site landscaping. Hedrick Brothers Construction has completed the renovation and restoration of the Palm Beach Town Hall building on schedule and under budget. The project was a complete interior renovation consisting of a structural retrofit, new mechanical system and interior modernization, plus an extensive historic exterior restoration of this 1925 landmark building, including replacement of all windows with impact-rated wood replicating the originals. The project consisted of three phases of work, which allowed for the building to remain occupied during most of the construction, with the exception of the Town Council Chambers during the later phases of work. The exterior restoration was done concurrently with the interior renovation because of a funding commitment from the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. “Hedrick Brothers Construction’s expertise in historical materials and methods, and in installing modern structures in landmark buildings were important elements in selecting them to renovate and restore our Town Hall,” said Peter B. Elwell, town manager of Palm Beach. Hedrick Brothers Construction’s signature historic restoration and renovation projects include the Palm Beach County 1916 Historic Court House, The Harriet Himmel Theater, Jupiter Elementary School, Dubois House, as well as several Palm Beach residences.
