Your hood has a nameplate on which is stamped the model number and serial number. To locate nameplate, remove filter and look on back wall of hood body. Model and serial numbers are also on the Purchase Record Card which came with your hood. Before sending in this card, pIease record the numbers in the space below, or get them from nameplate described above, and record here. Model Number Serial Number Please reference both these numbers in any future correspondence or product service calls concerning your hood. SAFETY Tll% T’(IFOLLOW WHILE COOKING ELECTRICALLY When you get your new hood. . . * Have it installed and properly grounded by a qualified installer. “ Have the installer show you the location of the hood circuit breaker or fuse, and mark it for easy reference. ~ Do take the time to read our suggestions for best use. When using your hood. . . Due to the hood fan drawing power, special caution is needed to avoid spreading of possible flame from the cooking surface of your range. Never leave surface units unattended at high heat settings. Boilover causes smoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite and spread if hood is used. Use surface unit heat settings recommended by manufacturer and adequate-size utensils. When flaming foods under tile hood, turn the fan off. The fan, if operating, may spread the flame. Never use your cooking appliance for warming or heating the room. The electrical wiring of your range hood may not withstand the resulting excessive heat. Keep hood and grease filters clean according to instructions to maintain good venting and to avoid grease fires. DO NOT USE WATER ON GREASE FIRES. NEVER PICK UP A FLAMING PAN. Smother flaming pan on surface unit by covering pan completely with well fitting lid, cookie sheet or flat tray, and, IF YOU CAN DO SO WITHOUT GETTING BURNED, immediately turn “OFF” the surface unit switch and recirculating hood. If there is a danger of being burned, wait until AFTER flame has been Jc gq’ reduced. WV. _- ., --- 60 WATTLAMP Your hood is equipped with a metal filter which removes grease and a charcoal filter which absorbs odors. When the fan is operated, air is drawn up through the two filters and is then discharged out into the room through the openings in the top front of the hood body. CAUTION e REMOVE the plastic and paper outer wrappings from the charcoal filter before operating the hood fan. Remove metal filter and check to see that charcoal filter is unwrapped. e l%fore you operate your hood, BE CERTAIN that both metal and charcoal filters are installed as shown in sketch. T= =p~~~=~ The recirculating hood draws cooking vapors from the surrounding area only if the fan is operating. The efficiency of your recirculating hood depends on how clean the filters are. Frequency of cleaning or replacing depends on the type of cooking you do, BUT FILTERS SHOULD BE CLEANED AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. NEVER OPERATE HOOD WITHOUT FILTERS IN PLACE. TO REMOVE GREASE Fl LTER, Insert the tip of a blunt instrument in the right side of the filter. Push filter to left and pull down. (See diagram.) TO CLEAN, soak, then agitate filter in hot detergent solution. Do not use ammonia or other alkaline material because metal or filter will darken. Light brushing may be used to remove imbedded soil. Rinse, shake and remove moisture before replacing. With careful handling the filter will last for years. If replacement becomes necessary, order part number WB2X2893 from your dealer. TO REMOVE CHARCOAL FILTER, grasp handle and pull to the left and down. This filter should be replaced when it is no longer effective, about 6 to 24 months depending on hood usage. Order part number WB2X2891 from your dealer. .- TO REPLACE FILTERS ~ Remove plastic and other outer wrapping from the new charcoal filter. Insert filter rim in the TOP frame slot on the left hand side of the opening. Push to the left and upward into place allowing the filter to slide back to the right and to lock into place in the frame. o Metal (grease) filter should be returned to hood in the same manner as above, but in the LOWER frame. o HOOD body w-Mbecome dusty and grease laden over a period of time. Clean grease laden surfaces of the hood frequently, especially the filters. Use warm detergent solution. About 1 tablespoon of ammonia may be added to the water and WITH CARE NOT TO COME IN CONTA.CT WITH FILTERS AND OTHER NON-ENAMELED SURFACES, the hood shell can be washed, rinsed then dried with a soft cloth. CAUTION: BE CERTAIN when cleaning hood surfaces you do not touch lamp bulb with moist hands or cloth. A warm or hot lamp bulb may break if touched with a moist surface. ALWAYS let lamp cool COMPLETELY before cleaning around it. To Chxm Motor and Fan: DISCONNECT POWER AT MAIN FUSE BOX. Remove filters. Wipe fan blade and motor with cloth, dampened only in ammonia and warm water solution. 4. Replace filters. 5. Connect power at main fuse. LAMP HEPLACEMENT ALL MODELS: Your hood is equipped with an ordinary screw-base lamp bulb receptacle. The lamp bulb is not supplied but DO NOT USE A LAMP OF MORE THAN 60 WATTS IN THIS HOOD. To replace lamp bulb: ALWAYS let lamp cool COMPLETELY. A warm lamp bulb may break if touchecl with a moist cloth or hand. When cool, unscrew lamp and replace with a new lamp as specified above. If the fan (and light on Model JN31O) does not operate when the switch is on, check the main fuse or circuit breaker. If the fan operates, but slower than normal, the filter may need cleaning. If that does not correct the problem, call your General Electric serviceman. If the fan keeps going off and on, the motor is probably overheating and turning itself off. This can be harmful to the motor. Check to be sure the filter is clean. If it should continue off and on cycling, call your General Electric serviceman.
