X-Country Championships
On a very wet and windy Tuesday, Kingdown took 44 pupils and travelled to the annual championships at Stonar School. Kingdown had
some extremely talented pupils within their team this year due to a strong interhouse selection process back in September. The Minor Girls
were the first to set off in their 2km run, Orli Cranston finished in 3rd place (the best individual result of the day). However, today’s event
was all about the “team position” which meant the first 6 runners scores being added together. Out of 78 runners: Bailey Greatley (4th),
Larnie Gask (11th), Grace Wright (15th), Lilly Reade (23rd), Charlie Hemmens (35th), Ella Rowland (36th) and Maisie Brand (38th). The
Minor Boys team consisted of: Ethan Wright, Harvey Fear, George Lancaster, Ethan Godfrey, Edward Lawrence, Oliver Knight, Lewis Freeman
and Bailey Griffin (10th place), who all ran 2.5km.
Our Junior Girls (running 2.5km) saw Amy Gordon finish just outside of the medal positions in 4th place and an excellent performance
from Hope Hann Farmer (who is one of the youngest in the age group) finishing in 6th place. Evie Spratt overtook four pupils from other
schools in a brilliant sprint finish to the line. The Junior Boys (running 3km) had Connor West (16th) and Peter Lister (19th) finishing in the
top 20 with the other 8 runners running in a team and finishing closely behind. The Inter Girls (3km) were outstanding with 5/6 runners
finishing in the top 15 places, Anna Lancaster (5th), Macy Wrintmore (9th), Bex Fry (11th), Jodie Hawkins (13th) and Aleasha Caple (15th).
Unfortunately, Molly Weston twisted her ankle during the 3km race but still managed to finish well and ahead of half of the field – excellent
determination! Three of our Inter Boys (4km) finished in the top 15: Joe Cassidy (10th), Chandler Saer (11th) and Charlie Hull (13th).
A huge thank you from Miss Brown and Mr Richardson for the brilliant effort that all pupils showed throughout their races and the
outstanding behaviour throughout the day – a real credit to Kingdown School.
