Upcoming Events 3-4 Chapter News & Announcements 5-6 Job Opportunities 7 Featured Articles 8 Internal Audit Crossword Puzzle 9 Chapter Leaders 10 This is a great time of year with the weather cooling off, the trees changing colors and our KC Royals are in the play-off! Our IIA chapter has held several good programs so far this year and there are more to come. Ryan Anstaett and his team have done a great job pulling together quality programs and good venues. I am excited to try St. Andrews Golf Club for our December meeting. We are always looking for volunteers, so if you are interested, or just want to learn more, please contact any of the officers listed on the webpage. It is a great way to network and to give back to the profession. We are proud of our members and the various contributions they make to the community. If you speak (non-paid) on an internal audit topic, have an article published or volunteer with Junior Achievement, please let Angela York, or myself know. We receive Chapter Achievement Points (CAP) for those types of activities and we’d also like to give you KUDOS. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming IIA meeting. If you have any questions or concerns about our chapter, please let me know. Sincerely, Barb Schaffert 2015-2016 KC IIA President 1|Page December 2015 Meeting Information 2|Page Save the Date!! 2015 – 2016 Schedule of Programs 3|Page Save the Date!! 2015 – 2016 Schedule of Programs (continued) 4|Page Chapter News & Announcements Welcome to our newest members!! The Assessment provides a repeatable and measurable process for financial institutions to measure their cybersecurity preparedness over time. The Assessment is comprised of two parts – Inherent Risk Profile and Cybersecurity Maturity. The Inherent Risk Profile identifies the institution’s inherent risk by evaluating technologies and connection types, delivery channels, online/mobile products and technology services, organizational characteristics, and external threats. The Cybersecurity Maturity determines the institution’s maturity level within five domains (cyber risk management and oversight, threat intelligence and collaboration, cybersecurity controls, external dependency management, and cyber incident management and resilience). The combination of the Inherent Risk Profile and Cybersecurity Maturity provides management with insight into whether the institution’s current cybersecurity state and identify areas where additional actions by management are required. For the full publication, please access FFIEC Cybersecurity Assessment Tool. Article #2: Auditing the Public Sector: Managing Expectations, Delivering Results by Arthur Piper Auditors in the public sector face a unique set of challenges, given that they must satisfy both their internal stakeholders — chief executives, boards, divisional service heads — and also be accountable to both politicians and the public. This report aims to assess how well they are coping with that mandate and how they might improve their practices in the future. Despite their challenges, many public sector auditors are getting involved in their organization’s strategic business risks, using The IIA’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (“Standards”) nearly as much as those outside the public sector. To help practitioners understand and respond to challenges, Arthur Piper’s report provides insights from thought leadership in the industry and findings from the 2015 CBOK Practitioner Survey, the largest survey of internal auditors in the world. Piper’s report discusses how the role of the public sector internal auditor has evolved, including the threats to internal auditor’s independence and objectivity, new and changing risks, funding constraints and shortages, and staff retention issues. For the full publication, please access Auditing the Public Sector: Managing Expectations, Delivering Results. For additional CBOK resources and publications, please access IIA - CBOK. 8|Page Internal Audit Crossword Puzzle 9|Page 2015 – 2016 Chapter Leadership Officers: Barb Schaffert – President Sean Brough – VP Membership Ryan Anstaett – VP Programs Tony Kisner – Treasurer Caleb Blanding – Secretary Justin Hinkle – VP Services Anthony Middleton – VP Web Services Board: Tony Jackson Marc Woodward Scott Way Christee Highbarger Stephanie Jones bschaffert@pbigordon.com sean.brough@protiviti.com anstaettr@compassminerals.com kisnera@bv.com caleb.blanding@yrcfreight.com justin.hinkle@us.gt.com anthony_middleton@americancentury.com Gordon Braun Jeanne Cline John Curran Jason Koch Angela York District Representative: Stephanie Jones Ex-Officio Member: Becky Casey If you have any questions or would like to submit an article for the newsletter, please email Justin Hinkle, VP Services, at Justin.Hinkle@US.GT.com. 10 | P a g e
