Planning
When cutting the assorted red and green squares, cut some
squares from the fabrics used in the red border, the binding, and
the vines to achieve a more unified look.

Step 1
Referring to Diagram I, stitch 2 matching assorted red plaid/print
2 7/8" half-square triangles to sides of cream 5 1/4" quartersquare triangle to make pieced rectangle. Make 36 total. Repeat
using assorted green plaid/print 2 7/8" half-square triangles.

Step 2
Using matching red/cream pieced rectangles, cream 2 1/2"
squares, and assorted green 4 1/2" square, sew 3 rows (see
Diagram II). Stitch rows together to complete Trellis Block.
Make 9 total. Repeat using matching green/cream pieced
rectangles, cream 2 1/2" squares, and assorted red 4 1/2" square.

Step 3
Referring to Assembly Diagram, stitch 3 vertical rows of 6
Trellis Blocks each, alternating green and red center squares.
Alternating Trellis Block rows and cream 8 1/2" x 56" strips, sew
rows together. Trim cream strips even with top/bottom. Trace
Templates A-E on paper side of paper-backed fusible web. Cut
apart, leaving small margin beyond drawn lines. Following
manufacturer's instructions, fuse to wrong side of appropriate

fabrics; cut apart on drawn line. Position template fabrics along
cream strips (in alphabetical order). Following manufacturer's
instructions, fuse in place. Applique edges by hand or machine
using buttonhole stitch (see Diagram III).
Step 4
Stitch cream 2 3/4" x 56" strips to sides; trim even with
top/bottom. Sew remaining cream strips to top/bottom; trim even
with sides. Stitch red plaid 4 1/2" x 56” strips to sides; trim even
with top/bottom. Sew remaining red plaid strips to top/bottom;
trim even with sides.
Step 5
Layer and baste quilt top for quilting method of your choice and
quilt as desired. Bind with red print fabric (see Quiltmaking
Fundamentals - http://www.mccallsquilting.com/lessons/listing/)
