Setscrews and bolts are manufactured from aluminum alloy, 6262-T9, to prevent gulling. Tin Plated and meets the requirements of the UL code for in transit protection of connector prior to use. Improving of electrical contact between the connector and the conductor to which it is mated. In service protection from corrosion for the outer (non-mated) surfaces of the connector. Suitable for use with either copper or aluminum conductors at 90 degrees C. Chamfered wire entry provides ease of installation. Hole location side-to-side 1 3/8, and hole-to-hole 1 ¾, standard buss bar mounting. The Additional Spotlight Features of Roto-Lugs: Setscrews are 5/8 Hex Head, not ½ Allen, to eliminate stripping during torque and easier access. Base has both bolts (2) and Turn-Prevent. Geared to prevent movement under load during contraction period, with a single locking bolt. Torque to 620 inch LBS. The locking bolt has a compression angle designed into the washer face to maintain pressure against the mating gear. Multiple angles: The benefit of 219 Degrees rotational positioning. 44-tooth base-gear is concaved and the lug-gear is convex to match contact of surfaces and providing self-centering. Shear strength is 4 Tons. Saves hours of labor. The Contractor’s Choice. Working with the natural stress of the wire. Rotation in all directions, front and back, and side-to-side. Company and Product Description Rotational Lug Technology (RLT), a privately held company, holds a patent and UL approvals in the US and Canada on a revolutionary design for a family of lugs used in the Electrical Switchgear installation business. Currently in development and leveraging the existing patent are the lugs for the panel board breakers. Over the years, wires have become larger in size while at the same time switchgear boxes have become smaller and more compact. Electrical contractors must bend this large diameter wire in order to land it in the fixed lugs available today by cable benders and heating beyond the limits allowed by codes and safety. The design of the rotational lug allows for wire to be seated landed directly, in a straight line into the switchgear box or breaker. Labor and safety costs are significantly lower with no need for bending of the wire. Additionally, the setscrews used to secure the wire no longer require an Allen Wrench, reducing stripping, loosening and allowing for proper torque to be applied. The combination of straight-line seating of the wire into the lug, and torque setscrews, significantly reduces maintenance and overall cost of ownership of the installed switchgear and breakers. Benefits This new technology is revolutionary, in that it benefits all parties that rely on the current lug applications: 1. The electricians will benefit by use of the lugs because less handling will result in less injuries. 2. Manufacturers of Switchgears will benefit from the use of the lugs on the bus through easy, safe and secure installations of wires to switchgears. The Roto-Lugs fit all standard application busses. By eliminating bending in the wire and providing a stress-free torque connection to the switchgear, manufacturers will have confidence that installations meet codes, reducing costly warranty claims and on-site re-engineering. Further enhancements in the Manufacturers design of switchgear are no longer limited by the amount of room needed to bend wire in the cabinet. 3. Wire Manufactures will benefit in much the same way. No longer will wire be bent beyond allowable radius, reducing heating and insulation stress issues associated with improper installations. Warranty and compliance claims for wire failures will be reduced. The lugs have been designed for larger wire diameters, with testing completed on 750AL-600MCM CU-3/0 in the US and Canada. The lug technology will provide the same benefits to both larger and smaller wire sizes. 4. Contractors will find significant labor savings in the 50% plus range for switchgear installations using the Roto-Lugs. Safer, faster and installed according to code will also reduce on-site work-around, potential warranty disputes, waste wire and rework. Installations during times of cold temperatures can be completed without having to bend wires and stressing the insulation. 5. Maintenance contractors and Municipalities will benefit in the same way as installation contractors. Since the lugs fit on standard busses, replacement of old lugs with the new design will allow for quick cut-out of old wires and a secure straight-line fit into the new lug reducing outage times significantly. Properly torque and under no stress versus the current installation, maintenance costs are significantly reduced. Easy access to the setscrews will reduce installation time and the special tools required today. 6. Electrical Engineers, Architects and Zoning Compliance organizations will benefit from code compliance that today is often overlooked for reason of expediency and lack of available alternatives. Improperly bent wires, crammed switchgear cabinets and improper landing, leading to wire and switch failure will be avoided. Inspectors would have an alternative when coming across improper installations with over bent wires. 7. Building Owners and the public will be a significant beneficiary resulting from use of the RLT lugs. By using rotational lugs versus the current fixed lug technology the total cost of ownership of buildings will be reduced by lower installation costs, less failure, wire fatigue and lower maintenance. Other applications: The rotation lug technology can be applied to many future applications within the electrical installation industry. The existing patent on the rotational gear and setscrew design can be applied to breakers, transformers, windmills, and solar as well as other applications. . ///////////// Hidden Advantages: Less Wire Needed for Bends Wire Integrity Not Compromised Less Wire needed to Trim & Land Less Fatigue on Wire And Electrician UL – Code for Bending Wire is No-longer a Problem The Electrician Uses His Schooled Thought Not Muscle. 50% + IN LABOR SAVINGS The Electrician’s Choice Dave Bauer – Inventor - President Design & Manufacturing Engineer Rotational Theory LISTED 4RC9 Ron Farber – Inventor – Vice President Design & Electrical Engineer Local 701 IBEW –D642271 QA MIL-I-45208A - Section 3.11, NORSHIPCO The Roto-Lugs is Engineered, Patented and Manufactured by: Rotational Lug Technology 1130 Carolina Drive West Chicago, IL. 60185 Phone: 630 562 9402 www.rotolugs.com Fax: 630 562 9405
