Cost-effective Rockwell Automation solution featuring Allen-Bradley products helps printer increase uptime two to three percent and easily accommodates future upgrades. BACKGROUND Consistently ranked one of Fortune magazine’s “Most Admired Companies,” Banta Corporation, continually strives to improve the quality of its products and services. Established more than one hundred years ago, the company has grown to be one of the ten largest printing companies in North America, serving publishers of educational and general books, special interest magazines, consumer and business catalogs and direct marketing materials. Recognized as both a market and technological leader in printing and digital imaging, Banta provides customers with a complete range of integrated information management solutions from content creation to fulfillment and distribution in any print or electronic format required. In addition to printing and digital imaging, Banta offers multimedia and software Solutions, interactive media and online services. From headquarters nestled along the banks of the Fox River in Menasha, Wisconsin, Banta Corporation operates more than 40 facilities worldwide. Publicly traded on the NYSE under the symbol BN, the company currently employs about 8,000 and records approximately $1.4 billion in annual sales. With Print Related Services accounting for more than 55% of its sales, Banta Corporation’s ability to keep pace with rapidly changing print technology and its customers’ increasingly shortened cycle times is key to its success. CHALLENGE The printing arm of the Corporation, Banta’s Print Sector, offers a wide range of printing solutions, including web, sheet-fed and digital printing capabilities, as well as complete binding, coating and cover options. The digital revolution that began in the early-1990s has had a profound effect on the printing industry. Computer-to-plate (CTP) technology has allowed publishers to eliminate one of the most time-consuming steps in the printing process – plate film production. Banta has invested in new scanning and image processing equipment as well as increased its digital storage capabilities to provide customers with the fastest and most cost-effective pre-press solutions available. At the same time, Banta must ensure that the heart of its operation and largest capital investment – its lithographic offset printing presses – can continually improve productivity. Since printing presses have a life cycle of around 15 to 20 years, many are remanufactured in-house to keep in step with the latest technological innovations and process improvements. The power control equipment supporting the presses – contactors, starters, motor control centers and disconnect switches – must be reliable and easily accommodate these field modifications. And the drives and programmable controls must be capable of supporting the line shafting application and reduce stress on the mechanical equipment to ensure long press life. Banta soon discovered that the componentlevel control devices provided with the presses, many of which are foreign built, did not provide the flexibility needed to implement press upgrades. Attempts to modify the system design to increase productivity resulted in system errors and excessive downtime. In addition, identifying replacement parts for the foreign components – and local service and support – was difficult. Even routine maintenance was a time-consuming and costly process. Application Profile What’s New replaces the need for terminal blocks. This simplified connection through the enclosure wall maintains panel environmental integrity, and interfaces to Output devices like Pneumatic Solenoid Valves on the machine and Output Modules in the panel. Banta Corporation Reduces Print Cycle Time with Complete Integrated Power Control Solution. 9 The complete Rockwell Automation POWER CONTROL SOLUTION is designed to quickly and easily accommodate future system upgrades. SOLUTION Banta Book Group engineering/maintenance superintendent Gary M. Simo called on local Allen-Bradley distributor Werner Electric and Rockwell Automation solution provider, Press Control Services, a web offset integration specialist headquartered in Lewisville, Texas, for a comprehensive Power Control Solution. For Simo, turning to Rockwell Automation was a logical choice based on a wealth of experience. “During my 30 years in the industry, I’ve specified and purchased Allen-Bradley products whenever possible,” said Simo. “And throughout my fifteen years with Banta, I have always been able to rely on Werner Electric to provide technical support and expertise whenever I need it. Werner Electric has also played a vital role in lowering our field service start-up costs.” 10 To decrease installation costs and increase uptime, Allen-Bradley On-Machine™ solutions were implemented whenever practical – from the press room through the bindery. “By deploying industrial controls and hardware, like our Bulletin 800 Push Button Stations, directly on a machine rather than in centralized cabinets, installation time and costs are When in-house remanufacturing of the printing press is necessary, Allen-Bradley Complete Panel Solutions housed in custom control cabinets designed by solution provider Press Control Services, streamline the upgrade. And packaged Power Control Solutions, like the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 2100 Motor Control Center fitted with Allen-Bradley Bulletin 500 NEMA Starters used within the facility’s chiller plant, also easily accommodate upgrades and changing electrical and mechanical requirements. Also, while traditional printing presses use a mechanical line shaft and harmonic gear boxes to control web tension through the press the Rockwell Automation electronic line shaft solution chosen by Banta utilizes high performance, Allen-Bradley 1395 DC digital drives and ControlLogix™ for precise web tension control. The gears, clutches, belts and pulleys that are intrinsic to a mechanical system – and the high tolerances associated with each – are eliminated. Via a control panel, press operators can electronically set web tension with precision not possible with a mechanical system thus allowing makereadies and web changeovers to be far more efficient. RESULTS “In the deadline-driven print industry where continuous operation is essential, identifying a supplier who can provide a quality solution, plus local support, is critical,” said Simo. “The reliability and flexibility of Allen-Bradley products, combined with the superior service provided by their distributor, Werner Electric, has helped us achieve the throughput we need to achieve our customers’ objectives.” For additional information regarding Banta Corporation and the products applied in this solution, visit the following websites: Since implementing the solution, Banta Book Group has significantly decreased the make-ready and changeover time on its presses. The smooth and precise motor control has reduced equipment wear and tear, and the advanced diagnostics intrinsic to the system have enhanced overall system reliability – and decreased maintenance. In addition, readily available NEMA products – combined with local service – have greatly simplified the maintenance – and upgrades – on the foreign-built presses. Overall, uptime has increased two to three percent since the Rockwell Automation solution has been applied. What are the stacking limitations of the new bulletin 800T MaxDuty™ contact blocks? 12 operator (2 wide, 2 deep). Since each MaxDuty™ block is a single circuit device, four circuits are maximum per operator. • RC SURGE SUPPRESSOR The RC Surge Suppressor uses a resistor and a capacitor to reduce the surge range of 120VAC to about 350VAC maximum. The voltage surge is suppressed smoothly in about 3 cycles of a 60Hz signal. The drop out time is not usually affected because the resistance characteristics are properly engineered. • MOV or VARISTOR SUPPRESSORS The MOV Suppressor chops the AC or DC voltage surge into a square wave that can contain noise and does not control the voltage change with respect to time (dv/dt). The voltage change with respect to time can cause some devices to change state. The voltage surge is usually limited to 3 times the voltage rating of the suppressor. • DIODE SUPPRESSORS The Diode Suppressor suppresses the DC voltage from a DC Voltage coil smoothly but the relay drop out time is usually increased. What is meant by the term ‘thermal memory’, and how does it relate to solid state overloads? Thermal Memory is the term used to describe the way we model the theoretical temperature of the motor based on the actual amount of current flowing to the motor, the Full Load Amps rating of the motor, and the trip class. Electronic Thermal Memory differs from traditional Thermal Memory in that there is no actual heat generated, and no “thermal mass” to cool once a trip has occurred. In solid state devices, it is an electrical circuit that charges up at a rate proportional to the percentage of current over the FLA rating of the connected motor. The trip class determines the factor at which this percentage gets increased and decreased. This trip class is determined by the type of motor being used, and the application in which it is operating (ie: smaller capacity motor heats up faster and cools down faster than a large capacity motor). Thermal memory determines the point at which the overload relay will trip, and prevents the relay from re-setting until enough time has elapsed to allow the motor to cool. Can an SMC Dialog Plus solid state starter be used to control wound rotor motors? Yes they can. Wound rotor motors (Slip Ring) require careful consideration when implementing SMC Dialog Plus controllers. A wound rotor motor relies upon external resisters to provide it with variable output torque characteristics. It may be possible to develop enough starting torque using the SMC Dialog plus controller and a single step of resistors. The resistors are normally connected in the rotor circuit until the motor reaches approximately 70% of the synchronous speed. At this point, the resistors are removed from the secondary through the use of a shorting contactor. This contactor can be controlled using one of the auxiliary contacts included in the SMC Dialog Plus. Resistor sizing will depend on the characteristics of both the load and the motor used. Please note that it is normally not appropriate to short the rotor slip rings during start-up, as the starting torque/output torque from the motor will be greatly reduced, even with full voltage applied. The starting torque will be even further reduced with the SMC Dialog Plus controller since the output voltage to the motor is reduced on start-up. The 194R Allen-Bradley Rotary Disconnect complies with new changes in the 2002 edition of NFPA 79 for the Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery. New NFPA 79 changes for rotary styled disconnects were introduced and effective in November 2002. The changes require rotary disconnect switches to be operable without the use of accessory tools or devices (independent of door position) and restate the requirements for an inter-locking provision to prevent the closing of disconnect while enclosure door is open, unless an inter-lock is operated by a deliberate action. 14 Adding Rockwell Automation Products to Your Equipment Designs is a Snap with ABECAD™ Rockwell Automation has a wide range of software tools available to provide you easy access to product information, product selection assistance, technical specifications, and dimensional drawings. One of those tools, ABECAD, provides you access to an extensive library of AutoCAD® drawings for Allen-Bradley products. Here is an excerpt from NFPA 79 pertaining to the changes in rotary disconnects. Drawing of an 800T 4 Position Toggle Switch 5.3.3.1 [the supply circuit disconnecting device] shall fulfill...the following requirements: …(5) Be operable, by qualified persons, independent of the door position without the use of accessory tools or devices. 6.2.3.1.2 The interlocking means shall meet the following requirements: …(3) Prevent closing of the disconnecting means while the enclosure door is open, unless an interlock is operated by deliberate action. With ABECAD installed, accessing the Allen-Bradley product library is as simple as typing “ABECAD” at the AutoCAD command prompt. If you know the catalog number for the product you need a drawing for, just type it in, and a three dimensional drawing of that product will be inserted into the AutoCAD workspace. ABECAD also provides the ability to browse the complete library of Allen-Bradley products and select the appropriate product without needing to know the actual catalog number. This capability is provided through the use of Rockwell Automation’s RAISE product configuration technology. It gives you a powerful means of identifying the specific Allen-Bradley product you require by answering questions that guide you through the process of configuring a catalog number. When you are finished selecting the catalog number, simply “accept” it and ABECAD will provide the appropriate product drawing. You can install ABECAD from the RAISE Software website at www.ab.com/raise/abecad.html. If you have a continuous internet connection, try installing ABECAD OnDemand which provides all the capability of ABECAD without the need to install all of the product drawings. ABECAD OnDemand will download product drawings via the internet “on-demand” and save them on your local hard drive so that you only install the drawings you want. ABECAD is available on CD as well. Contact your local Allen-Bradley distributor or sales office and ask them to send you publication number RAISE-ABECAD-MAY03. ABECAD and ABECAD OnDemand are RAISE powered applications. Also, contactors can be used for non-motor and lightning loads. The addition of protective covers to starters and contactors will allow customers to incorporate the benefits of time proven performance with increased safety. Overloads are integral component assemblies of starters available in solid-state or eutectic design. Vacuum Contactors Vacuum Contactors are designed for up to 1500 Volt applications such as mining, petro-chemical and others. The contactor line utilizes vacuum interrupters to enclose the power contacts. This is particularly effective for quenching contact arc above 600 volts. 17 Definite Purpose Contactors The Definite Purpose Contactors feature compact size, quick connect terminals and hex, slotted, phillips screws for ease of wiring. These contactors are specifically designed for applications such as air-conditioning, refrigeration, resistive heating, data processing and food service equipment, pumps and compressors. Manual Motor Starters The manual switches consist of a snap switch combined with a thermal overload device operating on the solder-ratchet principle. The switch is designed to prevent being held closed under a sustained motor overload. To reset the overload mechanism, the switch lever is moved to the OFF position. The motor can be restarted by pushing the switch lever to the ON position. Combination Starters NEMA combination starters provide the short circuit and overload protection for individual motors. They can be customized with a variety of enclosure types for dedicated environments, starter types for specific applications and accessories for control and diagnostic feedback to meet customer needs. Disconnect Switches/Circuit Breaker Mechanisms This line of fused and non-fused disconnect switches are specifically designed for flanged construction enclosures. The disconnect handle and linkage are always in contact with the switch, even when the enclosure door is open providing greater safety for the operators. The disconnect switches have visible blade construction for quick verification if the switch is energized or not. The addition of protective fuse covers are a safety accessory that help prevent accidental contact with the load side of a disconnect switch, power fuses, and wire connections. 18 500 500F 500L 500FL 500LP Features • Top Wiring for motor loads • Feed-through wiring for motor loads • Top wiring for nonmotor loads (lighting and heating) • Feed-through wiring for non-motor loads (lighting and heating) • Top wiring permanent magnet latching for non-motor loads (lighting and heating) NEMA Size • 00-9 • 0-5 — — — Continuous Ampere Rating (A) • 9-2250 • 18-270 • 10-2250 • 20-300 • 20-300 1ø 2 Power Poles • 115-230V (1/3 -15 Hp) • 115-230V (1-15 Hp) • 600V Max • 600V Max • 600V Max 3ø 3 Power Poles • 200-600V (1-1/2-1600 Hp) • 200-600V (3-200 Hp) • 600V Max • 600V Max • 600V Max 3ø 4 Power Poles • 200-600V (1-1/2-900 Hp) — • 600V Max — • 600V Max 3ø 5 Power Poles • 200-600V (3-100 Hp) — — — — Enclosures (NEMA Type) • 1, 3R/12, 4/4X, 7 & 9 — • 1, 3R/12, 4/4X, 7 & 9 — — Standards • NEMA/EEMAC ICS2 (Industrial Controls and Systems) • UL 508 • CSA 22.2, No. 14 • ABS 4/5.115 • USCG 46 CFR 111.70 • IEEE 45 • NEMA/EEMAC ICS2 (Industrial Controls and Systems) • UL 508 • CSA 22.2, No. 14 • ABS 4/5.115 • USCG 46 CFR 111.70 • IEEE 45 • NEMA/EEMAC ICS2 (Industrial Controls and Systems) • UL 508 • CSA 22.2, No. 14 • ABS 4/5.115 • USCG 46 CFR 111.70 • IEEE 45 • NEMA/EEMAC ICS2 (Industrial Controls and Systems) • UL 508 • CSA 22.2, No. 14 • ABS 4/5.115 • USCG 46 CFR 111.70 • IEEE 45 • NEMA/EEMAC ICS 2 (Industrial Controls and Systems) Approvals • UL Listed (File No. E3125; These transformers also isolate the control circuits from power and lighting circuits. They are especially designed to accommodate the momentary current inrush caused when electromagnetic components are energized, without sacrificing secondary voltage stability per NEMA ICS2-100. The control circuit transformers are designed to meet international standards. They are an ideal choice when meeting global requirements with voltages ranging between 208...600 and VA ratings from 63...2000, 50 or 60 Hz. Switched Mode Power Supplies Safety and reliability continue to gain increased importance in many industrial applications. The family of power supplies offers several solutions to increase the reliability and safety of the application. The N+1 redundancy modules provide a cost effective means for providing back-up power in the event the primary power supply fails. The “Buffer” module provides added reliability for conditions of “Brown-out” when input power is unreliable. The comprehensive line of Switched Mode Power Supplies accepts wide ranges of both AC and DC input voltages and has global approvals to meet worldwide single-phase and 3-phase application requirements. The line of Allen-Bradley Power Supplies has two distinct families the Standard and Compact that are essential components for complete low voltage control solutions. 59 SWITCH MODE POWER SUPPLIES AND CONTROL TRANSFORMERS 1606-XL Single Phase 1606-XLP 1606-XL Three Phase 1497 Control Transformers Features • Low inrush current • Wide range input; auto select input • Superior overload design (continuous current, no hiccup) • NEC Class 2 ‘Limited Power’ Option • Superior efficiency and temperature rating • Low inrush current • PFC Choke • Wide range input; auto select input • Superior overload design (continuous current, no hiccup) • NEC Class 2 ‘Limited Power’ Option • Selectable operating mode (single/parallel) • Superior efficiency and temperature rating • Low inrush current • PFC Choke • Wide range input; auto select input • Superior overload design (continuous current, no hiccup) • Selectable operating mode (single/parallel) • Superior efficiency and temperature rating • Output signals • Wide VA range • Enclosed construction 63…350VA • Terminal covers finger safe • Optional fuse covers available • Dual primary and secondary fuse block available to 500VA • Class B insulation (130˚C) • All welded construction Watts • 25...100 W • 60...480 W • 120...960 W — VA — — — • 63…2000 Input Voltage • 85…264 V AC • 85…375 V DC • 85…132/176…264 V AC • 160...375 V DC • 340…576 V AC • 450...820 V DC — Primary Voltage — — — • 208…600V Efficiency • 80...90% • 87...93% • 89...92.5% — Output Voltage • 5, 10...12, 12, 15, 24, 48 V DC • 24, 36, 48 V DC • 24, 48 V DC — Secondary Voltage — — — • 24V…120V • Multi-tap – 115…230 (50 HZ) Rated Output Current • 1.3-4.2 A • 2.5-20 A • 4-40 A — Operating Temperature Range (Tamb) • -10…+70°C • >60°C with derating • -10…+70°C • >60°C with derating • -10…+70°C • 60°C with derating — Insulation — — — • Class B (130˚C) Approvals • CE, UL508, UL1950, IEC/EN 60950, EMC • CE, UL508, UL1950, IEC/EN 60950, EN 50178, EMC • CE, UL508, UL1950, IEC/EN 60950, EN 50178, EMC • UL508, NEC450 Standards • EN 50081-1, EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-3-2 (A14) • EN 55011 (Class B), EN 55022 (Class B), EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-3-2 (A14), EN 50081-1 • EN 55011 (Class B), EN 55022 (Class B), EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-3-2 (A14), EN 50081-1 • EN 60529 60 http://wwwdev.ab.com/industrialcontrols/products/power_supplies/index.html General Purpose Relays Solution for High-Density Interposing Applications Rockwell Automation offers a Terminal Block Relay (TBR) ideally designed for a variety of high-density isolation and interposing applications. Space Savings The TBR meets the demand for panel space-savings and is the thinnest per pole interface relay at 6.2 mm wide. Easy, Cost-Effective Installation Electrical wiring costs can be reduced from 50% to 76% on projects. The Spring Clamp Technology version of the TBR along with the 20-way jumper wiring system makes installation of the TBR relay quick and easy. Exclusive Leakage Current Suppression Circuit Design An exclusive leakage current suppression circuit version will address nuisance coil turn-on or contact non-dropout industry concerns for 120V AC/DC and 240V AC input voltages by internally shunting up to 2.2 mA. This is the first product on the market offering a built-in leakage current suppression circuit design. Industrial Relays and Timers Allen-Bradley industrial relays and contacts are designed for long life. Each component is engineered for millions of operations, without compromising performance. Interchangeable and replaceable cartridges offer a broad range of contact solutions maximizing application flexibility. 61 Solid-state Relays Long Life Expectancy Solid-state relays use electronic instead of mechanical devices for load switching while providing a life cycle expectancy of approximately 100,000 energized hours or 11.4 years. This reduces product replacement and downtime. Low Maintenance There are no moving parts or contacts to wear out or be affected by vibration and shock. Maintenance dollars, parts replacement, and downtime are reduced drastically, if not eliminated altogether. Reduced Control Power Costs The solid-state relay typically requires 25 times less control power than electromechanical relays and also generates less heat. This means the panel can typically be smaller, reducing panel space requirements. Flexibility Plug-in style SSRs (700-SA, SC, SF and SK) are compatible with Allen-Bradley 700-HN sockets and retainer clips. In addition, the 700-AS SSR is compatible with the 700-HT1 multi-function, multi-range timer module while the 700-SC SSR is compatible with the new 700-AT1 or 700-AT2 timer modules. The flexibility and compatibility with these relay accessories support a wide range of applications, while reducing spare parts inventories. Single-loop Temperature Controllers Flexibility Saves Panel Space These single-loop temperature controllers are available in three form factors: 1/32, 1/16, and 1/8 DIN offering the flexibility to choose the best size controller for heating, cooling application without compromising on functionality or power. They are NEMA type 4X, UL/CSA/CE approved. Easy PID Auto Tuning Improves Efficiency The PID control method greatly reduces or eliminates on/off temperature swings, helps stabilize workload temperature, improves control efficiency, increases component life and reduces energy costs. Using the auto or self-tuning PID control method, allows for fast startup of a heating, cooling or heating and cooling temperature application with little operator knowledge of the system's characteristics. LED Display Technology The LED display helps ensure excellent process parameter visibility in many levels of ambient light. LED technology is highly reliable and uses less power than other technologies, reducing maintenance and power costs. 62 G E N E R A L P U R P O S E R E L AY S 700-HA 700-HB 700-HD 700-HF General Purpose Relay General Purpose Relay General Purpose Relay General Purpose Relay Features • Pin Style Terminals • Standard ON/ OFF Flag Indicator • Electrical Schematic on Face • Clear Cover for Visual Inspection • Optional Push-to-test and Manual Override • Optional LED • Blade Style Quick Connect Terminals • Standard ON/OFF Flag Indicator • Electrical Schematic on Face • Clear Cover for Visual Inspection • Optional Push-to-test and Manual Override • Optional LED • Flange-mounted • Blade-style Quick Connection Terminals • Clear Cover for Visual Inspection • Square Base • Plug-in Quick Connect Solder Terminals, • Optional Push-to-test and LED Contact Form • DPDT • 3PDT • DPDT • 3PDT • DPDT • 3PDT • DPDT • 3PDT • 4PDT Contact Type • Single • Bifurcated • Single • Single • Single Contact Material • AgNi • AgNi + Gold • AgCdO • AgCdO • AgCdO Max. With 5 different frontof-panel styles and 2 different contact block styles, you are sure to find a solution to fit your needs. 30 mm NEMA The 30 mm push button line offers more styles and sizes to meet the most demanding specifications in the world’s toughest industrial environments. 73 Hazardous Location The Hazardous Location push buttons address the needs for improved operator safety in hazardous locations worldwide. These push buttons are ideal for the petrochemical, pharmaceutical, spray paint, and process industries. Pendant Stations The line of Pendant Stations offers optimal control. This product line is for crane, hoist, and general-purpose material handling applications. Pendants are available in 2-12 button configurations, with an E-Stop for safety, and one- or two- speed contacts for optimal control. In addition, they are IP65 water-tight and resistant to impact and chemicals to withstand the most rugged environments. Touch/Palm Another great solution to ergonomic issues in the workplace, the 800P Heavy Duty Palm Button features articulated operation. This means that these operators can be actuated from any hand position. These buttons operate at a reduced force compared to standard push buttons. The lower force means less stress on hands, wrists, and shoulders – which leads to fewer repetitive motion injuries. 74 22 MM IEC PUSH BUTTONS 800E 800E 800E Description Push Buttons Emergency Stops Selector Switches Mounting Hole Size • 22.5 mm • 22.5 mm • 22.5 mm Mounting Method • Back of Panel Mounting Ring • Back of Panel Mounting Ring • Back of Panel Mounting Ring Material & Degree of Protection • 800EM: Metal, Type 4/13, IP66 • 800EP: Plastic, Type 4/4X/13, IP66 • 800EM: Metal, Type 4/13, IP66 • 800EP: Plastic, Type 4/4X/13, IP66 • 800EM: Metal, Type 4/13, IP66 • 800EP: Plastic, Type 4/4X/13, IP66 Features • Flush, Extended, Mushroom & Jumbo Mushroom, Maintained, and Legended Versions • Illuminated, Non-Illuminated • Push-Pull & Twist-to-Release • Illuminated, Non-Illuminated & Keyed Operators • 2, 3, or 4 Position Maintained or Spring Return, Standard or Lever Knob • Illuminated, Non-Illuminated, & Keyed Operators Maximum # of Circuits • Illum: 3-Across – 4 Circuits; 2-Across – 5 Circuits • Non-Illum: 6 Circuits • Illum: 3-Across – 4 Circuits; 2-Across – 5 Circuits • Non-Illum: 6 Circuits • Illum: 3-Across – 4 Circuits; 2-Across – 5 Circuits • Non-Illum: 6 Circuits Approvals • UR/CSA/CE/CCC • UR/CSA/CE/CCC • UR/CSA/CE/CCC Operating Temperature • -13...+131˚F (-25...+55˚C) • -13...+131˚F (-25...+55˚C) • -13...+131˚F (-25...+55˚C) Design Life • Illum: 3M, Maintained 100K Mech. They bring safety to your manufacturing process through efficient control and automatic monitoring. Control Tower™ Stack Lights help reduce downtime by signaling breakdowns and material shortages. They also improve safety by alerting the operator immediately of any hazards. Our signal light solutions are designed to deliver confidence and have a proven track record of meeting automation challenges. 70 mm Stack Lights Safe, Easy Installation and Maintenance Installation simply requires mounting the base to a surface and wiring the top-mounted terminal block. Our mounting bases are not voltage specific, simply choose a common voltage for all modules in a stack. Modules stack one to five modules high with three choices of base mounting. Push modules together at alignment points and twist into the locked position. No tools required. No need to wire between modules – it’s that simple. Also, our signaling system automatically de-energizes the power as soon as a module is disconnected, allowing safe, easy installation and maintenance at any time. Industrial Horns and Beacons The family of surface mount industrial electronic horns and beacons are designed to meet worldwide signaling requirements. The horns are available as stand-alone devices or with high visibility beacons attached. All products offer volume adjustment. All horns can be purchased with a combination strobe beacon available in 6 lens colors, allowing optional visual and audible signal combinations. This family of industrial horns is capable of continuous duty use – surpassing the capability of most mechanical horns which are only rated to be used for short durations. 82 TOWER LIGHTS 855T 70 mm FEATURES Environmental Ratings 855E 50 mm • UL Type 4/4X/13 on all bases, lights, caps and sound modules • Indoor and outdoor use • IP65 Ease of Assembly, Base Wiring and Lamp Changes • No-tools assembly and maintenance • “Twist-off” lenses for easy lamp changes • Top-mounted terminal block for easy base wiring • No-tools assembly and maintenance • “Twist-off” lenses for easy lamp changes • Top-mounted terminal block for easy base wiring • Optional lens securing screw for tamper resistance Illumination Types • Illumination types include incandescent, socket-mount LED, or strobe • Illumination types include incandescent, socket-mount LED, or strobe Lens Colors • Available in 6 colors (green, red, amber, blue, yellow, clear) • Available in 6 colors (green, red, amber, blue, yellow, clear) Pole-Mount Base Options • Pole-mount bases are available in 10cm, 25cm, 40cm, 60cm and 80cm – Stainless Steel • Pole-mount bases are available in 10cm, 25cm and 40cm – Aluminum • Pole-mount bases are available in 10cm, 25cm, 40cm, 60cm and 80cm – Aluminum Other Base Mounting Options • Surface-mount bases (surface-mount bases also feature 1/2" NPT, PG16 threading options) • Vertical-mount bases • Surface-mount bases (surface-mount bases also feature 1/2" NPT, PG16 and M20 threading options) • Vertical-mount bases Base Colors • Available in black or gray base housing • Available in black or gray base housing Sound Options • 80-107 dB • Transducer style or Piezo style sound modules available in single or dual tone (sound modules are UL Type 12, IP54) • Peizo Styles and modules also available in 4/4X • Transducer style offers 12-15 selectable tones • 88-103 dB • Piezo style sound modules in single and dual tone Network Connectivity • Available in standard or DeviceNet connectivity • Available in standard connectivity Voltage Options • All modules available in: 12V AC/DC, 24V AC/DC, 120V AC, 240V AC as standard offerings • All modules available in: 12V AC/DC, 24V AC/DC, 120V AC, 240V AC as standard offerings Pole Connection Boxes • Surface, Vertical, and Magnetic Mount Certifications • UL, cUL and CE on all components • UL, cUL and CE on all components • Polycarbonate • Polycarbonate Lenses • Polycarbonate • Polycarbonate Lamp Socket • Polycarbonate • Polycarbonate Rubber Seals & Gaskets • Nitrile Rubber • Nitrile Rubber Pole (Aluminum Pole Base) • Aluminum • Aluminum Conduit (For Pole Insulation) • Polystyrene/Polyphenylene Ether Blend • Polystyrene/Polyphenylene Ether Blend Mounting Screw Washers • Polypropylene • Polypropylene DeviceNet Base Grommet • Neoprene — DeviceNet Cable Jackets • CPR Chlorinated Polyethylene — DeviceNet Cable Connectors • Santroprene — • -25˚C to +70˚C (-13˚F to +158˚F) • -25˚C to +50˚C (-13˚F to +122˚F) MATERIALS Bases, Cap, Lens Cover, Sound Module Housing TEMPERATURE RATINGS Operating Temperature http://wwwdev.ab.com/industrialcontrols/products/signaling/index.html Signaling • UL Type 4/4X/13 on bases, lights, caps, combination modules, and Peizo style sound modules • Indoor and outdoor use • IP65 83 HORNS AND BEACONS 855B 855H Voltages Available • 12V AC/DC, 24V AC/DC, 110V AC 50/60Hz, 230V AC 50/60 Hz • 10-30V DC, 24V AC 50/60 Hz, 110V AC 50/60 Hz, 230V AC 50/60 Hz Voltages Available (Horn w/ Beacon) — • 12V DC, 24V DC, 24V AC 50/60 Hz, 110V AC 50/60 Hz, 230V AC 50/60 Hz Illumination Type • Strobe 5 Joule • Strobe 5 Joule Flash Rate • 1 Hz — Lens Colors Available • Red, Green, Amber, Blue, Yellow, Clear • Red, Green, Amber, Blue, Yellow, Clear Environmental Rating • IP66/Type 13, 3R • IP56/Type 13, 3R Operating Temp Range • -25 to +55˚C (-13˚F to +131˚F) • -25 to +55˚C (-13˚F to +131˚F) Steady State Current • 12V AC/DC (400/500mA), 24V AC/DC (365/250 mA), 110V AC (100mA), 230V AC (50 mA) • Horn only: 10-30V DC (25-950 mA), 24V AC (40-1000 mA), 110V AC (13-240 mA), 230V AC (13-120 mA) Sound Output Level — • 100 dB – 126 dB Range — • 10 Tones Range A Horn • 45 Tones Range D & E Volume Adjustable — • 16 dB from max.
