School of Medicine in 1985.

db/db (homo) and m+/db (hetero): Black

Characteristics
This strain is a NIDDM, non-insulin-dependent
diabetes mellitus, model animal that shows similar
symptoms of human’s obesity diabetes.
This shows overeating and obesity caused by
abnormality of the leptin receptor.
m+/m+, male,
8-week-old
Homo mouse indicates increases of weight and blood
glucose level after three to four weeks of its birth.
Genetic symbol, Leprdb, is added since causational
gene is abnormality of the leptin receptor.
