IXS-6600
4U hybrid HD / SD video and audio routing system
Overview
Cost effective and compact hybrid routing system handles SD and HD video signals, audio and RS-422A within a
single chassis
The IXS-6600 hybrid routing system can handle HD-SDI and SD-SDI video, AES/EBU and analogue audio, RS-422A
and timecode within a single chassis (a range of I/O modules are available to suit). It offers a video routing matrix
up to 64 x 68 for multiple bit-rate video signals (HD/SD or SD only) ranging from 143 Mbps to 1.485 Gbps, plus reclocking capability for multiple bit-rate signals, including DVB-ASI. AES/EBU audio routing up to 128 x 136 matrix by
the use of TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) techniques. An optional sampling rate convertor module is available to
handle asynchronous inputs. The IXS-6600 router is equipped with a common Ethernet interface, allowing a
sophisticated, yet easy-to-configure network-based control system to be established. The well-proven Sony S-BUS
interface is also provided to enable easy integration into existing routing systems. Another advantage is the unique
integration with Sony MVS family of production switchers, bringing a number of great benefits such as bidirectional
operational control, source name exchange and tally management.

Features
•
Multi-format capability hybrid routing system
The IXS-6600 can handle HD-SDI and SD-SDI, AES/EBU analogue audio, RS-422A and timecode within a single
chassis. Video routing up to 64 x 68 for multiple bit-rate video signals (HD/SD or SD only) ranging from 143
Mbps to 1.485 Gbps, plus re-clocking capability for multiple bit-rate signals, including DVB-ASI. AES/EBU audio
routing up to 128 x 136 matrix by the use of TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) techniques. An optional
sampling rate convertor module is available to handle asynchronous inputs.
•
Flexible control system
The IXS-6600 can be used as a primary station with enhanced control function, eliminating the need for a
separate external control unit. The router has powerful operational features such as tie-line, virtual matrix,
input/output system protection and phantoms. Inputs and outputs can be freely assigned on up to 16 levels.
Both S-BUS system and Ethernet control systems are available.
•
Optional Universal LCD Remote Panel
The optional BKS-R6010 Universal LCD Remote Panel offers control of the IXS-6700 and IXS-6600 via either SBUS system or Ethernet interface. The unit is equipped with a large LCD display for status indication (English,
Chinese and Japanese language available). It has multi-function buttons equipped with colour TFT LCD
displays to select sources, destinations and levels. User-defined names can be displayed on the multifunction buttons, with source selection using a clickable selector knob, plus easy set-up via a web browser.
Other optional control panels include: BKS-R1617A Mulit-Display Control Unit, BKS-R3216 Multi-BUS Control
Unit, BKS-R3219A Universal Control Unit and BKS-R3220 X-Y Control Unit.
•
High level of redundancy built-in
The hybrid router has a high level of redundancy, with a main and back-up CPU board as standard. The unit
also has four power supply units (providing two main and two back-up units).
•
Self-diagnostic functions
The unit monitors communication quality, link status and back-up CPU status. It detects any mismatch of
settings between the main CPU and back-up CPU and any crosspoint errors. Information on status/errors can
be displayed on the router’s front panel.
•
Ease of maintenance
Troubleshooting and software upgrades can be performed without interrupting system operations. It is
possible to keep a variety of logs, such as System Status log and Command log of S-BUS, Ethernet, RS-422A
and internal control. Ethernet-based remote monitoring and maintenance can be obtained using the Sony
MMStation™ Remote Monitoring and Maintenance Software – an SNMP-compliant application.
•
Compact and lightweight design
The IXS-6600 has a compact 4U chassis design with 26 kg (57 lb 5 oz) fully loaded weight.
•
Low power consumption
The unit has low power consumption of approx. 300 W (64 x 68 matrix, 1.485-Gbps video with redundant
power supply and CPU).
