For the last ten years we have had wonderful Jazz events but this one will top them all. (We have some experience now!) Of course, how could we miss when a room full of our NSC friends will be there! But it certainly doesn’t hurt to have great leadership -and Reta Gaebler has provided just that for the committee in 2016. These dedicated volunteers have been meeting since the lights went out in the ballroom last April. Almost all the t-s have been crossed and the most of the i-s have been dotted —They’re just that good! A Touch of Jazz One of the introductions we are anxious to make is the Honorary Chairs of this event, Jim and Julie Iverson. Jim and Julie have been great friends of NSC for several years . They have supported, cheered us on and most importantly encouraged us. They are a treasure to the Northland and to Northland Shepherd’s Center. We hope you will find the time to thank them during the evening for all the good the do in our community. Please also check page 2 for our Benefactors who are making the evening possible! We couldn’t do it without their generosity! And very importantly, we have wonderful entertainment—The James Rojas Band will be playing and there will be time for dancing! You will want to stay and listen to the wide range of music James and the band plays, and of course- there will be that touch of jazz! That surely, will make you want to move your feet. The silent and vocal auction are filled with exceptional offerings this year. You will be excited to see the tables and hear the auctioneer! Remember all the proceeds go to our programs to help older adults— you can feel great about your shopping! Finally, if you add to that the ambience of the ballroom in the Argosy Casino, Hotel and Spa and the wonderful menu and service of the staff the evening is complete except for what matters most! YOU! Plan on attending! Tickets are $80 and you can get them on our web site (www.northlandsc.org) or at the office March 16th! Don’t miss this! An excited Board of Trustees posed beside our brand new 15 passenger bus on Tuesday, Feb16th at the monthly Board meeting! This Board and the board members of the past two years have been working along with staff toward this day! But it also has taken the help of many other generous donors. Northland Shepherd’s Center is so grateful for the support of countless volunteers, clients and contributors through our yearly Jazz event and The Hodgdon Family Fund, Jewish Heritage Foundation, Harvest Ball Society, Chris Hodgdon, and Mr Goodcents fund , they all have made it possible for NSC to purchase this bus. We couldn’t be happier! Below is Bob Kobby, who delivered the bus to us with the new signage complete and was greeted by excited staff. Thank you to Bob who donated funds for the beautiful signage. We love the way our new logo looks on it! The new motto is “Helping Seniors Thrive.” We are sure this new transportation will do just that for our clients—creating new opportunities for them to do new things in a new way! The revolt itself was a quixotic act, involving no more than 1,500 people, and the whole thing was crushed within a week at the cost of 450 lives, more than half of them civilians. 1916 Picture of the Easter Uprising But the brutality of the British military afterwards, including several thousand arrests and 16 executions, helped turn the “rainbow chasers” into national martyrs. The ruined General Post Office on Sackville Street in Dublin, the rebels’ short-lived headquarters, became the iconic symbol of the rising. For Irish nationalists Easter 1916 signaled the rebirth of the nation – a stepping stone to Sinn Fein’s landslide victory in the 1918 election, the war of independence against Britain from 1919 to 1921 and the creation of the Irish Free State 12:00 Lunch ~ $5.00 ~ Corn beef & cabbage, roll and dessert Friday, April 8, 2016 Megan Shamleffer, Registered Dietitian @ Hy-Vee Megan will be able to answer questions about some of the Old/New foods.
