The patent entitled “SWITCHED HOT SWAP CONTROLLER” in the area of
embedded systems with specific reference to telecommunications proposes a
software solution to a method and a computer program for hot-swapping and
electronic board in a telecommunication system.
2.9
Summary of 2.8
The main objective of the patent is to provide adding or removing electric
components into an existing computer to or telecommunication architecture
without having to perform a power shut-down of the whole architecture.
Basically the patent aims at increasing the current in the electric circuit is
controlled by a microcontroller switching a power transistor in a switching circuit
so as to gradually increase the capacitor voltage for the electronic board. The
current level is measured either in the microcontroller itself or in an external
current sense circuit and compared to a maximum current level.

The most relevant patents/applications are discussed as under.
Kruppa Robert William et al. disclose the apparatus and method controls and
limits the flow of in-rush current and maintains a supply voltage to a peripheral
device during power surges. The apparatus and method essentially isolate and
limit in-rush current flow to an in-rush circuit comprising a capacitive load and
series resistor connected directly to the power bus at one end and to a
reference potential at the other end. A switching device is coupled to the series
resistor. A current sensing circuit is coupled to the series resistor. During initial
start-up or "hot plugging" of the device, a control circuit turns "off" the switching
device causing the load to be charged from the power bus through the resistive
device for a pre-selected time interval, after which the switching circuit is turned
"on" to bypass the resistive device and connect the load and the peripheral
device to the power bus.; The current sensing circuit detects when current flow
is out of the load at which time the sensing circuit send a discharge signal to
turn on the switching circuit and bypass the resistor which maintains the supply
voltage of the device during the power surge.

Matsumura Tadashi et al. discloses a controller which is provided with an I/O
control table in which distribution control information to determine to which CPU
an I/O request from a host should be distributed and state information showing
whether or not each CPU is operating are stored. Also, I/O processing
instruction lists are storing an I/O processing instruction during processing until
it completes are prepared for each CPU.; When the revision instruction of
firmware is made from the outside, the state information of the CPU as the
object of firmware revision in the I/O control table is updated to a non-operating
state, and the distribution control information is updated so that the distribution
of the I/O request to the CPU can not be performed, and when it is confirmed
that any I/O processing instruction stored in the I/O processing instruction list
has become absent, control to execute the revision of the firmware is
performed.
•
The invention relates to a method and a computer program for hotswapping and electronic board in a telecommunication system.
•
The prior art deals US5973419 with the invention relates to power
supplied buses for peripheral devices coupled to such systems in which inrush current is limited to such peripheral devices after power-up or "hot
plugging".
•
The prior art deals JP2007219696 with to achieve the firmware hot-swap
of a controller such as a disk controller, the firmware hot-swap of the
controller exerting little influence on a host being a high order device.
•
Prior arts are not having the concept of hot-swapping and electronic
board in a telecommunication system.
