U N I T E D E L E C T R I C C O N T R O L S 3 One Series Electronic Switch Product Line Electronic Pressure, Differential Pressure and Temperature Switches with Innovative 2-Wire Design Description – One Series 2-Wire A new breed of electronic switch, the One Series 2-Wire derives its power and provides a switch using the discrete or analog input of a PLC or DCS. Uniquely suited for plant upgrades where only two wires already exist, the One Series 2-Wire can replace other two-wire instrumentation easily and costeffectively without the need to add additional wiring. One Series with Gauge Pressure Sensor Features • Power and output switching achieved using the same 2 wires • 2-button key pad for easy programming of set point and deadband, 100% adjustable • LCD display for settings, status and process variable • All solid-state design; no moving parts • All stainless steel pressure sensors with 0–4500 psi (310,3 bar) gauge ranges and differential pressure to 0-200 psid (13,8 bar) • Temperature sensor ranges from -300 to 1000°F (-184.4 to 537.8°C) • 24 VDC, 115 VAC and loop-powered models available • Class I, Division 1 (Intrinsically Safe with optional safety barrier) and Division 2 rated; Enclosure Type 4X certified 24 VDC, 115 VAC & loop-powered models available ATEX APPROVED Strengths & Capabilities • Connects to a PLC with only 2 (existing) wires • Monitors its own health with local and remote reporting (IAW®) self-diagnostics • Reports clogged sensor conditions • Switches with programmable deadband or manual reset • 0.1% repeatability over a wide temperature range • Easy set up and test in place One Series with Gauge Pressure Sensor and bottom conduit entry Applications • Provides discrete and 4-20 mA input to a PLC or DCS • Drop-in replacement for mechanical switches • Precise pump staging with 100% adjustable deadband • Process control, emergency shutdown, monitoring in hazardous locations, machine tool switch, hydraulic monitoring, factory automation Space saving Conduit Locations (EMC, LVD, PED) 4 U N I T E D E L E C T R I C C O N T R O L S For complete specifications visit www.ueonline.com One Series Electronic Switch Product Line One Series 4W (High Power) The One Series 4-Wire models provide an integral solid-state relay (SSR) for handling high current and voltage in local switching applications. This model requires an external power source to operate the electronics and provides a single SSR output. Features The 4W models incorporate a 10 A, 24-280 VAC potential free SSR, providing a compact and fully self-diagnostic electronic switch for applications without a PLC or DCS. Applications One Series 4W with Differential Pressure Sensor & Dual Conduits With high power handling capacity, the One Series 4W is ideally suited for local switching applications, where the load can be switched directly (locally) at the point of measure. Application examples include pump control, compressor protection, lubricant oil monitoring, control valve actuation and safety interlocks. One Series 2WLP Loop Powered Switch and 4-20 mA Output Model Description - This versatile One Series model is powered from the analog loop, just like a transmitter. The loop current powers everything - the display, the programmable switch and the field-scalable 4-20 mA output. The 4-20 mA analog output changes proportionally with the pressure or temperature process variables, providing a remote signal to a PLC, DCS or data recorder for process trending. One Series 8W - Dual Switch + 4-20 mA Output Model Description - This One Series model provides two independent switches, each with a programmable set point, deadband and switch mode. The 8W also includes a field-scalable 4-20 mA analog output. The 2WLP and 8W models can effectively replace a switch, gauge and transmitter using only one process tap, increasing reliability and reducing installation costs and potential leaks. Division of United Electric Controls Temperature Sensors Sensor Types Applied Sensor Technologies offers four types of Temperature Sensing Elements: Thermocouples A thermocouple is two wires of dissimilar metals joined at one end. Changes in temperature at the junction induce a change in electromotive force (emf) at the other end. Our standard offering includes base-metal (J, K, E and T) and noble-metal (R, S, and B) calibrations. RTD’s or Resistance Temperature Detectors An RTD’s resistance increases as the temperature increases. We offer both wire-wound and thin-film designs, depending on the application. Many possible curves are available, from 100ohm, 500-ohm, and 1000-ohm platinum RTDs in both DIN and American alphas, to nickel-iron and copper curves. Thermistors Thermistors rely on the resistance change in a ceramic semiconductor, with the resistance dropping non-linearly with a temperature rise. Many different elements are offered, including the common 10K and 100K curves. IC Sensors The integrated circuit (IC) temperature transducer provides either voltage or current output and is extremely linear. 16 U N I T E D E L E C T R I C C O N T R O L S Custom Designed Sensors for OEM Customers Applied Sensor Technologies excels in supplying today’s exacting manufacturers with temperature sensors that meet their needs. Before installing a unit, the Installation and Maintenance instructions provided with unit must be read and understood. • To avoid damaging unit, proof pressure and maximum temperature limits stated in literature and on nameplates must never be exceeded, even by surges in the system. Operation of the unit up to maximum pressure or temperature is acceptable on a limited basis (e.g., start-up, testing) but continuous operation must be restricted to the designated adjustable range. Excessive cycling at maximum pressure or temperature limits could reduce sensor life. • A back-up unit is necessary for applications where damage to a primary unit could endanger life, limb or property. A high or low limit switch is necessary for applications where a dangerous runaway condition could result. • The adjustable range must be selected so that incorrect, inadvertent or malicious setting at any range point cannot result in an unsafe system condition. • Install unit where shock, vibration and ambient temperature fluctuations will not damage unit or affect operation. Orient unit so that moisture does not enter the enclosure via the electrical connection. When appropriate, this entry point should be sealed to prevent moisture entry. • Unit must not be altered or modified after shipment. Consult UE if modification is necessary. • Monitor operation to observe warning signs of possible damage to unit, such as drift in set point or faulty display. Check unit immediately. • Preventative maintenance and periodic testing is necessary for critical applications where damage could endanger property or personnel. • For all applications, a factory set unit should be tested before use. • Electrical ratings stated in literature and on nameplate must not be exceeded. Overload on a switch can cause damage, even on the first cycle. Wire unit according to local and national electrical codes, using wire size recommended in installation sheet. • Do not mount unit in ambient temp. exceeding published limits. LIMITED WARRANTY Seller warrants that the product hereby purchased is, upon delivery, free from defects in material and workmanship and that any such product which is found to be defective in such workmanship or material will be repaired or replaced by Seller (Ex-works, Factory, Watertown, Massachusetts. INCOTERMS); provided, however, that this warranty applies only to equipment found to be so defective within a period of 24 months from the date of manufacture by the Seller (36 months for the Spectra 12, TX200 and One Series products; 18 months for Temperature Sensors and 12 months for Transducers). Seller shall not be obligated under this warranty for alleged defects which examination discloses are due to tampering, misuse, neglect, improper storage, and in any case where products are disassembled by anyone other than authorized Seller’s representatives. EXCEPT FOR THE LIMITED WARRANTY OF REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT STATED ABOVE, SELLER DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES WHATSOEVER WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCT, INCLUDING ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
