Drama
Several internal assessments are completed for the
induction topic at the start of Year 10. Unit 1 From
Page to Stage is done from Easter to the end of the
year. This is controlled assessment worth 30% of the
final grade. It is done in lessons and lasts
approximately 30 hours of lesson time plus extra time
at the start to introduce the text being studied.
Unit 2 Drama in the Making is completed from
September to January of Year 11. It is controlled
assessment worth 30% of the final grade. It is done in
lessons and lasts approximately 30 hours of lesson time
plus extra time at the start to introduce the stimulus
items. Unit 3 (Practical Exam) begins in February of Year
11 and is examined in May. This is an external exam
worth 40% of the final grade. Preparation for the exam
is 12 hours and has to be done under supervised,
controlled conditions. This is preceded by a preparation
and exploration period.
There are three assessed Units: Unit 1 (30%), Unit 2
(30%) and Unit 3 (40%). Units 1 and 2 are internally
marked and moderated externally. Unit 3 is an exam
paper set by the exam board leading to a final
practical examination for an external examiner
(40%). For the final practical exam students have 4
options including performing, designing or scriptwriting.
