GCE and GCSE NOTICE TO CANDIDATES MAY/JUNE 2016
1. Most examinations will start at 9am or 1.30pm. The majority will be held in the Sports Hall.
You must arrive in advance of the start of each exam and be ready to register at either 8.50am or 1.15pm in the
main School Hall. (Please refer to the footnote regarding examinations not shown on the timetable).
2. You have been issued with a timetable. CONSULT THIS EVERYDAY. If you lose it you may obtain a copy from
Mrs Buroni or Mrs Patterson in the Exams Office. Please note:
• “Follow on” exams will be highlighted in yellow. This means you have more than one exam in a session. After
a short break you will continue with the second paper. You will not be allowed to leave the examination room
between papers
• Due to clashes, a few of you may be required to take an exam in the wrong session, this means you will need
to be kept in secure conditions over your lunch break. If this is the case a letter will be sent home to your
parents explaining the procedure
3. PLEASE NOTE: The duration of the examination is shown in minutes, e.g. 120 refers to a 2 hour exam.
4. YEAR 11 STUDENTS MUST WEAR FULL SCHOOL UNIFORM TO ALL EXAMS.
5. A notice for candidates, which lists most of the points contained on this sheet will be posted outside the Sports
Hall/Examination Room and should be consulted.
6. Enter the Sports Hall/Examination Room in silence. You will be told where to sit and must sit in candidate number
order. Candidate labels will be displayed on the desks. DO NOT REMOVE OR DEFACE THEM.
7. If you are ill and have to miss an exam you must contact the school immediately and must produce
a Medical Certificate or you may now complete a Self-Certification Form which can be collected from the
Exams Office and which must be taken to a Doctor’s surgery for signature. Either Form must be given to
Mrs Buroni within 5 days of the missed examination.
8. Late arrival of candidates.
a) Candidates who arrive late may be admitted to the examination session but must report to Reception upon
arrival.
b) Candidates who arrive after the first hour of an examination session or after the exam body’s finishing time
for a very short exam may be admitted but the Examination Boards will be informed and they reserve the right
to refuse the scripts.
9. Leaving the examination room.
a) Candidates are not allowed to leave an examination room until the official end of a paper. If a student who
is entitled to extra time finishes within the normal allotted time he/she may leave with the main
candidates. If such a student elects to use some extra time allocation he/she must stay to the end of
the extra time period.
b) In exceptional circumstances, e.g. illness, candidates may be allowed to leave the examination room
temporarily. An invigilator/member of staff must accompany them.
10. Candidates affected by a disability.
Candidates whose examination work is affected by a physical handicap or adverse circumstances should
inform the invigilator before or immediately after the examination; a Medical Certificate or note completed by
the candidate’s doctor must be applied for where appropriate.
11. Removal of examination material.
Candidates must not remove multiple choice question booklets, supplementary sheets, answer books (used or
unused), mathematical tables or other examination materials from the examination room.
12. Examination materials - which the candidate provides (should be contained in a clear plastic bag).
a) Candidates must use a suitable pen; written answers must be in black ink or black biro.
b) Candidates may use inks or pencils of other colours for maps and diagrams.
c) B or HB pencils must be used to answer multiple-choice tests for which there is a separate answer sheet.
d) Candidates may use erasers but not correcting fluids, correcting paper or similar materials unless
otherwise stated in the rubric (notes on the front of the paper) of the question paper.
e) Candidates may take into any examination only those articles, instruments or materials that are expressly
permitted in the rubric of the question paper, in the syllabus or in the regulations.
f) Candidates are not allowed to introduce books, notes, boxes of instruments bearing data or any other article
bearing data, into the examination room. All rough work must be done in the answer books or on answer
paper.
g) If the regulations for an examination permit, electronic calculators of the silent cordless type may be used.
These should be basic scientific calculators.
Please note calculators must:
i) Have self-contained batteries (rechargeable or dry-cell) and not be dependent upon mains supply.
Please check the batteries are working!
ii) Not have audio output or noisy keys or be operated in such a way as to disturb other candidates.
iii) Not have the facility for magnetic card input or plug-in modules or programme instructions.
iv) Not have the facility for use as a data bank, dictionary or language translator.
v) Not have the facility to complete calculus on a function and answer in algebraic form. A
numeric answer to integration between limits is permissible.
vi) Not have the facility for symbolic algebraic manipulation.
vii) Not have the ability to store mathematical formulas.
viii) Be free of lids, covers or cases.
ix) Be cleared of any previously stored information.
13.Conduct
a) The Head of the Centre must report all cases of irregularity or misconduct connected with the examinations.
b) If the Examination Boards are satisfied that a candidate has been involved in any irregularity, misconduct or
dishonesty in connection with the examination, the candidate’s result in the subject may be cancelled. The
candidate may also be disqualified from the current series of examinations or disqualified from entry to further
examinations within the preview of the Examination Boards.
c) Wrist watches must not be worn in examinations.
d) Mobile phones, ipods, MP3 players and other forms of electronic equipment must not be brought
into any examination room; being switched off is not sufficient.
e) Candidates should not have any form of notes in their pockets.
f) Water, in a clear plastic bottle, may be taken into the examination room. Labels must be removed before
entering the room.
g) Hair of shoulder length or longer must be tied back.
h) Candidates must not have writing on their hands/arms. This includes Henna tattoos.
14. Instructions on answer books and question papers
a) It is each candidates own responsibility to check that they have the correct question paper and, if
applicable, that it is the correct level (higher or foundation).
b) Candidates are reminded to read carefully and to carry out the instructions given on the question paper and
on the front cover of their answer books. Candidates may be penalised if the instructions are not carried out.
c) If your examination has a combined question and answer booklet, any work written outside the margins at
the edge of the page will not be marked.
d) Candidates must use their own centre and candidate numbers throughout the examination and these
numbers must be clearly written on every piece of examination work.

A/S and A2 results are published on Thursday, 18th August.
Year 13 A2 results will be available in school at 8am.
Year 12 A/S results will be available in school at 10am.
GCSE results are published on Thursday, 25th August and will be available from school between 10am and
12noon.
In both cases:
• Please collect results in person.
•
All third parties, including parents, must have a signed, written note of authorisation.
• All results not collected by 12 noon on Thursday, 18th and 25th August will be posted first class.
