CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
At Ealing Hospital I am Director and sole Consultant (7 sessions) of the Vascular Unit. Ealing Hospital
provides vascular cover for a population of 250,000. My team includes a career Registrar, a Senior House
officer, a House officer, a risk factor modification expert for patients with peripheral arterial disease (Dr
Sandhu) and 2 vascular fellows. Every week I also conduct an arterial clinic, a venous clinic, an
outpatient ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy clinic and a leg ulcer clinic. Once per month I also
provide a risk factor modification clinic for patients with peripheral vascular disease. I have a full day and
a half day theatre list. I closely collaborate with the neurologist, diabetologists, cardiologists,
endovascular radiologists, nephrologists and other specialists in our hospital in order to provide a
multidisciplinary approach in the management of complex vascular cases. I see approximately 3000
outpatients per year and in my unit 400 operations are performed yearly.
At Charing Cross I provide emergency vascular cover for a population of 1,000,000. I am supported by a
registrar, an SHO and a HO.
The cardiothoracic service is based at Hammersmith. I perform combined surgical procedures with the
cardiothoracic surgeons and consult for vascular emergencies.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
All my jobs involved teaching of medical students, which I consider a very rewarding experience.
My teaching sessions include lectures, ward rounds and teaching by the bed side for the senior medical
students. My lectures are illustrated with a personal collection of slides of relevant interesting cases. I am
currently group leader for the Imperial College medical students for their training in surgery at Ealing
Hospital and I am a tutor in the problem based learning module to the second year medical students. I
have been an active member of the admissions panel of the IC for the last 6 years. Other educational
activities I have been involved include:
1)Supervision of the Doctoral Thesis of the following vascular research fellows:
S. Kakos,PhD student ICSM (awarded in 2004)
