The IIChE Student's chapter of SVCE was bestowed
with the Ambuja's Best Student's Chapter Award 2009. The award constitutes a certificate, trophy and
a cash prize of Rs.15000/-. The Department of
Chemical Engineering bags the Best Student's
ChapterAward for the fourth time.
'College Day' was celebrated on 31.3.2010 at the
college campus. The Registrar of Anna University
Dr.S.Shanmugavel, the chief guest, gave away the
awards and prizes. The Secretary
Mr.T.G.Balachandran presided over the function.
The Principal Dr.R.Ramachandran presented the
Annual report.
Dr R Muthucumaraswamy, Professor & Head,
Applied Mathematics department obtained the
second DRDO sponsored funded project for the
department under an extramural research grant for a
sum of Rs. 2.14 lakhs.
The Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE)
department obtained a MODROB project from
AICTE for Modernisation of Power Electronics
Laboratory for a sum of Rs. 9 lakhs. The proposal
was sent by Mr.K.Sundararaman and Ms.D.Kavitha
of EEE department with their Professor and Head,
Dr.K.R.Santha as the project coordinator.
Dr.Sankaran, Director, DRDO headquarters, New
Delhi visited the college on 19.1.2010 and had a
useful discussion with the senior faculty members. A
presentation was made on the research work being
done in the college and the status of the on going
DRDO funded projects was explained. He also
visited the laboratories of some departments.
The Department of Computer Science and
Engineering has been recognized as a Research
Centre by Anna University vide its 14th Research
Board Meeting.
Women's day was celebrated on the 9th of March,
2010. The theme was 'Celebration of Women
Excellence'. The Chief Guest was Dr. Srinidhi
Chidambaram and Mrs. Devaki Muthiah was the
Guest of Honour.

lecture on 'Computer Applications in Civil
Engineering' on 4th March 2010.
Dr. Vijaykrishnan Narayanan, Professor,
Pennsylvania State University and an alumnus of this
college gave a talk on 'Motivated ideas on Research
areas' on 31st December 2009. He also gave another
lecture on the same day on 'Emerging Technologies
in Chip Design'.
Mr. Siddharth Jonathan of Stanford University, a CoFounder of 'Infoaxe' and an alumnus of this college
gave a lecture on 'Search Engine Optimization' on 5th
January 2010.
The Department of Automobile Engineering and
Entrepreneurship Development Cell of our college
jointly organized a 6 weeks training program on
“Repair and Maintenance of Automotive Vehicles
(Two and Three Wheelers)” for ITI/ Diploma holders
from 24. 11.2009 to 06.01.2010. The program was
sponsored by National Science & Technology
Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department
of Science and Technology.

'Enterprise Resource Planning' on 19th March 2010.
An awareness programme on 'Student Counseling
and Guidance' was held on 30.1.2010 in the college.

Young Innovator Program', held in IIT-Madras on

19 and 20 March 2010. Around 60 teams from
various engineering colleges participated in the
competition which carried a cash prize of
Rs.10,000/-. Their idea “Continuously Variable
Transmission System for Farm Equipments and
Pumps” aims to design a step less transmission
mechanism with a simple design, completely
eliminating the application of gears. The organizers,
Villgro, have extended their support to convert the
concept into a commercial application and to secure a
patent for the idea.
Sarath Chandar, Arun Balaji and G Venkatesh of II
year CSE won the second place in the paper
presentation contest organized by IIT, Madras as part
of the National Level Technical Symposium
EXEBIT-2010. Their paper was titled “CDPN :
Communicating Dynamic Petri Nets for Adaptive
Multimedia Presentation”. They were guided by Dr.
Susan Elias, Professor & Head, CSE. The students
received a cash prize of Rs.5,000/- and certificates.

Mr.R.Shashank, of third year Chemical Engineering
department, presented a paper on “Indoor
Environment Quality in Green Buildings” in the
International conference on Chemical Engineering
and Application (CCEA), Singapore during
February 26th - 28th, 2010. This paper has been
indexed by the World Academic Press and he was the
only UG student who presented a paper in this
conference.

The NCC division of the college conducted a cycle
expedition to Sathanur Dam near Tiruvannamalai

"Awareness about Global Warming". About 40 NCC
cadets of SVCE from the Army, Navy and Airforce
and 10 NCC officers and civilians participated in the
250 km expedition.
A NSS special camp was conducted at Aayakulathur
village in Sriperumbudur between the 11th and the

'model street' in the village, carried out tree

conference and gave a talk on 'Exploiting Emerging
Trends in Telecom Industry'.
A workshop on 'Python for Scientific Computing
(WPSC)' was organized by the Department of
Computer Science and Engineering in collaboration
with IIT Bombay on the 22nd and the 23rd of April
2010.The workshop was funded by the Ministry of
Human Resources Development (MHRD). There
were about 76 participants (40 faculty members and
36 students) and the resource persons were from IIT
Bombay.

'Communication and Informatics (NCCI 2010)' on
9th and 10th April 2010. The conference was
sponsored by CTS.Mr. Krishnan Shivasubramanian,
Director – Projects, CTSdelivered the keynote
address. Resource persons from HCL Ltd and SVCE
chaired the various sessions.

Durairasa.M of 2005-2009 batch, B.E Automobile
engineering was awarded a gold medal during the
convocation of Anna University held on 19.02.2010
for having secured the highest marks in the B.E
degree program under the Faculty of Automobile
Engineering on the basis of his performance in all the
examinations held during 2005-2009.
