COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS
Our honourable Chairman addressed and honored the Artists Dr. Kadri Gopalnath ,Saxophonist and Ms Nithyasree
Mahadevan, an eminent Carnatic musician and playback singer at Sangeetha Mahothsavam program, conducted
by Velammal Educational Trust in our Auditorium on 6th and 7th, Feb. 2016.

Our Honorable Chairman donated Rs. 25 lakhs to the Chief
Minister’s Flood Relief Fund and the Demand Draft for the amount was handed over to Mr. L. Subramaian, Collector, Madurai. Mr.
Ganesh Natarajan, Vice Chairman of VCET and Dr.S.Asokan Vice Chairman of Velammal Medical College Hospital & Research
Institute accompanied our Honorable Chairman.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Peer Team visited VCET, Madurai between 18th and
20th Feb, 2016. The team comprised Dr. B.C.Majumdar, the former Chairman, & National Board of Accreditation
(NBA), as the chairperson and Prof.D.R.Bhaskar, Dept of ECE, Jamia Millia Islamia Central University, New Delhi as
the member Coordinator. The aim of the NAAC Peer team visit is to grade the college for its quality in education taking
into consideration the establishment and overall achievements.
Our VCET Young Indians (Yi) Yuva Members actively participated in the awareness rally on project Masoom to create
an awareness among public on the prevention of child sexual abuse on Sunday, 21st February, 2016 . The Honourable Collector of Madurai Mr.K.VeeraRaghavaRoa,IAS, initiated the rally.Shri.K.Thiagarajan (Executive Director ,Thiagarajar
Mills Pvt Ltd ),Chair,Young Indians-CII Madurai welcomed the gathering.Ms.PoornimaVenkatesh,Project Director -Massom,
Ms.ValliAnnamalai ,Social activist and Dr.HaripriyaAravind, Aravind Hospital spoke about the importance of the rally.

RECENT INNOVATION IN TECHNOLOGY – SOLAR CHARGER:
In Chicago, they have developed the thinnest solar cells.
The creators named it as “solar paper” and say, that on a
clear and sunny day, it will allow to charge the iPhone 6 in
2.5 hours. The paper can be carried in notebook – it will
not damage cover or damaging itself. Sun paper – this is the
most delicate Charger for generating alternative energy. It
can be folded into a book and taken with you on a walk or
in a hike. On a sunny day, two thin sheets of such paper will
be able to charge the iPhone 2.5 hours. Sheet size solar paper – 9*4*9*4cm which are sizes of 4 sides respectively;
weight – 120 g. This is 13% of the size and 26% by weight of the closest analogue of this charger solar energy. In
addition, unlike other solar charge, a paper itself is automatically disabled when the gadget is fully charged or when
the sun went behind a cloud. It has a small display that shows the remaining charge. Currently presented 4 kinds
of paper with different solar power: 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 watts. Another advantage of solar paper, which charges the
connected devices, will even if a shadow fell on the panel or light intensity dramatically decreased. The device will
automatically begin charging again once the enough power is accumulated to issue relevant indicators. In addition,
solar paper as water resistant and is equipped with magnets, which allow you to record sheets on metal supports or
connect with each other to increase the capacity of reception of solar energy.

ArunSenthil Kumar, Co Principal investigators, Mechanical Department This project is the outcome of the consultancy work carried out for the Penguin Apparels Limited, Madurai. • The research project Development of Safe, human powered and low cost multipurpose machine for fireworks
industries at Sivakasi cluster developed by Dr. G. Manikandan, Principal investigator ,Dr. V. Anbumalar , Dr.
P. Rajesh Kanna, Co Principal Investigators received Rs.20 Lakhs from DST , Govt. of India This project
is the outcome of the consultancy work carried out at Sri Kaliswari Fireworks Sivakasi. Shri. A. P. Selvaraj,
Director, Sri Kaliswari Fireworks appreciated us for getting the R&D grant from DST and very much receptive
to collaborate with us in this research venture.
