Electrical Engineering - Technical Elective Requirements The B.S.E.E. academic plan of study requires fifteen (15) hours. Three (3) hours of these technical electives must be chosen from 4000 level ECGR courses while the remainder may be chosen from any 3000 level and higher ECGR courses that are not part of the degree requirements. Individual study courses may not be taken as technical electives. Co-op students may count up to three (3) hours of ECGR 3695 co-op course toward their technical elective requirements. • If both ECGR 3142 and ECGR 3133 have been taken, then one will count as a technical elective. Limit of One outside of the department. Consistent with the student’s educational objectives and in consultation with academic advisor, up to three (3) hours of the technical electives may be taken outside the ECE Department. The following process should be followed in selecting this non-ECGR technical elective course: 1. A 3-hour non-remedial course that is consistent with the student’s educational objectives should be selected by the student and approved by his/her academic advisor and the Associate Chair. (*The student must seek the approval of his/her advisor and the Associate Chair before taking the course.) 2. Technical elective courses are in general defined as courses with significant science and/or mathematical content (i.e. a technical elective is an upper division course in engineering or the sciences such as biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics) 3. In cases when a student request transfer credits for the non-ECGR technical elective, the Department Associate Chair will evaluate the request to determine whether or not the requested transfer credit is consistent with the requirements in #1. Electrical Engineering - Science/Mathematics Elective Requirements The B.S.E.E. academic plan of study requires three (3) hours of science or mathematics elective. The following stipulations must be considered in choosing this elective: 1. 2. 3. Three (3) hours of college-level, non-remedial mathematics, statistics, or natural sciences and should be chosen in consultation with an academic advisor. No pre-determined list of the allowed courses is available because no such list can ever be complete, and if a list is compiled, it would encourage students to take only what is on the list which may not be best for them. In cases when a student request transfer credits for the science/math elective, the Department Associate Chair will evaluate the request to determine whether or not the requested transfer credits is consistent with the above stipulations. All natural sciences such as environmental science, physics, biology, chemistry, earth science (geology), etc. We do not accept sciences such as computer science, political science, etc. Some examples of approved Science and Math Electives are: BIOL 1110 BIOL see Associate Chair for accepted course level CHEM 1252 or higher course ESCI see Associate Chair for accepted course level GEOL see Associate Chair for accepted course level PHYS 1130 PHYS 1203 PHYS 3000 or higher course MATH 1165 or higher course STAT 2223 or higher course (Credit will not be given for the following: STAT 2122, MATH 3125, MATH/STAT 3122/3123 courses since it is required for you to take STAT 3128)
