THEME & SCOPE
The theme on pressure vessels and piping is a subject important to
power generation (nuclear and conventional), aerospace, defence,
transport, paper, oil and gas, and chemical processing industries.
The cause as well as prevention of failures and leaks of pressure
vessels, boilers, piping and associated equipment, and demand to
achieve trouble free operation has drawn considerable attention
world-wide. Unscheduled outages often cost huge money. The
repair of damaged pressure equipment and life assessment of
operating plants pose major technical challenges for industry.
There is a concern for some operating plants with limited scope for
repair and replacement. OPE 2012 – KALPAKKAM focuses on a
range of technical issues related to design, material deformation,
damage and its ageing behaviour, fabrication and repair
technologies, non-destructive evaluation and inspection, failure
investigation, assessment and life prediction of components,
quality assurance and international trade in the area of pressure
vessels and piping. The purpose of this conference is to bring
together the multi-disciplinary community of engineers, scientists,
academicians and regulatory bodies to discuss the recent trends
and future developments in the area of pressure vessels and piping.
RELEVANCE

The conference is structured as plenary sessions followed by
parallel sessions. The plenary lectures will be delivered by the
Eminent Personalities Invited to introduce the theme of conference.
Each parallel session starts with Invited Lectures on specific topic
followed by contributory papers. Apart from oral sessions, a single
Poster Session (attended by all the delegates) is devised that offers
a unique platform to focus on specific topics of interest and helps in
expanding the discussion beyond the limit of oral presentation.
The language for the presentations and the conference
proceedings is English. The conference papers are being reviewed
and the proceedings of the same in the form of a CD along with the
book containing accepted abstracts would be made available to
the delegates during the conference. Three best contributory
papers each in oral and poster sessions will be awarded based on
the selection by the international panel of referees.

a large number of five star hotels to satisfy the needs and comfort
of international visitors/tourists. Chennai is rich with cultural
heritage for both classical and modern forms of Art, and has large
tourist attractions. The city has the unique distinction of having a
large number of educational/research institutions. Ever growing
and expanding, the vibrant city Chennai has a very important place
in the development of modern India in terms of the contributions
from information technology and various automobile,
petro-chemical and power generating industries.
TRAVELLING TO CHENNAI
Chennai is well connected nationally and internationally through a
well established air network and has an airport with domestic and
international terminals. Regular flights connect Chennai with the
major cities in India, and with American, European and Asian
Countries, and Australia. Many major international airlines (e.g., Air
India, British Airways, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Malaysia
Airlines, Delta Airlines etc.) have regular flights to Chennai. Chennai
is connected to all major cities in India by its dynamic Rail and Road
networks.
WEATHER
Chennai is pleasant and comfortable during the month of
September and no warm clothing is required.
LOCAL TRANSPORTATION
