El Centurión de Cafarnaun era una autoridad militar y tenia quien le sirviera en casa, pero reconoció que no podía curar a su criado, y busco la ayuda de quien el creía que podía devolverle la salud, Jesús de quien el había oído hablar. Jesús alabo la fe del centurión pero además el Centurión con su actitud demostró una gran humildad, no se consideraba digno de ir personalmente donde Jesús, Fe y humildad elementos necesarios para hacer efectiva nuestra oración. Si lo pensamos bien nos daremos cuenta de que gran parte de nuestra oración es pidiendo por nosotros y por nuestros familiares; pero debemos pedir como nos aconseja Pablo por todos los hombres para que se salven y por las autoridades para que desempeñando correctamente sus cargos, la ciudadanía pueda vivir en paz y tranquilidad. En las lecturas salen a relucir dos elementos importantes de la oración: la intercesión y la mediación. Cuando pedimos por los demás estamos intercediendo como lo hicieron los ancianos de los Judíos por el Centurión. Jesús que es al mismo tiempo Dios y Hombre es el único mediador nuestro ante el Padre, por eso dijo: “Nadie va al Padre si no por Mi” (Juan 14,16) pero no desautoriza la intercesión pues cuando enseño el Padre Nuestro dijo que pidamos por nosotros o sea los otros y yo, eso es interceder. Si Pablo nos dice que oremos por los demás, mientras vivimos aquí en la tierra, entonces con mucha mas razón pueden hacerlo los que ya están en el cielo en la presencia del Padre y del Hijo.
