On August 23rd The Bechtel Management
team held a special recognition breakfast
for MV Transportation at the Crude expansion project facility at Motiva Refinery in
Port Arthur, Texas. MV was recognized for
reaching 1,000,000 miles and carrying
1,000,000 passengers over the past two
years.
This site employs 120 people who work in
a variety of fields, but all keep one goal as
their top priority each day, Safety. John
Taylor, General Manager and Joseph Urban, Safety and Training Manager attribute the accomplishments of the division
to the entire team.
“They did it, we didn’t. All we did was be
there and serve as guidance for them but
they are the ones that went out there and
accomplished this, they are the ones that
dealt with the traffic,” said Urban. “I thank
you from the bottom of my heart. What
you have done is extremely important and
you should all be proud of yourselves as
well.”
The drivers mechanics and support personnel in Port Arthur are a tight-knit
group. It is likely this led to this amazing
accomplishment.
“Not only have we been able to come together as a group, the family is a family, we have three and four generations of
people working for us,” explained Taylor.
The division currently recognizes 694 Days
without an Injury and 225 days without an
Accident!!!
Client representatives praised the great
efforts of our employees as did MV corporate management who came out to honor
our employees: Kevin Klika, COO; Keith
Whalen, Chief Development Officer; Alex
Guariento, Sr. VP Safety; David Smith, VP
Marketing; and Brenda Fernandez, RVP.
To finish off the morning festivities, our
client presented John Taylor a huge trophy
recognizing this milestone and challenged
all the employees to travel the next 1 Million miles as safely as they have to date;
one ¼ mile at a time.
Congratulations to everyone in Port Arthur!

Division 101’s Red Shirt
Safety Program Featured in
TARC Newsletter!
The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) highlighted MV Division 101’s (Louisville, KY) Red Shirt
Safety Program in its quarterly newsletter sent to
all riders.
The Red Shirt Safety Program began in July 2008
under the direction of General Manager, A.J. Borromeo to recognize drivers that had gone that
“extra mile” in service to the passengers that ride
TARC3.
All employees of Division 101 are eligible to win the
shirt; it is awarded when an employee performs an
act considered above and beyond their regular duties. This is an approved uniform shirt that shows
riders they are riding with an extra special driver!
Anyone can nominate an employee for consideration, but A.J. has the final say. Since July 2008
only 9 people have received a red shirt, with 8 on
active duty (one has retired since).
Pictured here is Anthony Mason, Road Supervisor, and one of
the 3 most recent recipients of a Red Shirt.
What an honor!
FMFI delivers a $20,000 check to Handicap International
From Nikki Frenney:

will be donated to
Doctors
Without
Borders in October.
The staff at Handicap
International
was very appreciative of our efforts
and would like to
build a long term
partnership with MV
and the foundation.
On Thursday, August 26, MV Transportation and the
Freedom of Mobility
Foundation (FMFI),
delivered a $20,000
check to Handicap
International
at
their US headquarters office in Takoma, Maryland.
The $20,000 is one-half of the donation collected from
MV staff and other supporters during our campaign to
raise money for the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in January. If you remember, we
raised $40,000 toward this effort.
On behalf of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, I would
like to thank each and everyone one of you for coming
together as a FAMILY to make this donation possible.
Your generosity is what makes MV the great company
that it is!

Satveer Berar, HandyDART
Booking Agent Turns a Routine
Call into an Act of Heroism
MV call taker and
nursing student,
Satveer Berar answered a call on
July 26 from a rider who wanted to
cancel her HandyDART ride to a
doctor’s appointment and ended
up potentially saving the rider’s life.
Upon
answering
the call, Satveer
immediately noticed the caller was
having
difficulty
breathing and asked her to describe her symptoms.
The caller said she was having chest pains and shortness of breath, which made Satveer realize she needed
to call an ambulance on behalf of the caller. Nine days
later, after the woman was able to return home from
her hospital stay, she called HandyDART to express her
sincere appreciation for Satveer’s assistance. She had a
heart attack and said that if it hadn’t been for Satveer’s
quick thinking and compassion she might not have lived
through the experience.
One of HandyDART’s goals is to enhance the lives of the
people they touch by helping them be independent. Satveer’s actions are just one example of how the employees improve the lives of our customers every day. Thank
you, Satveer!!

real service began on September 7 with 23 routes
departing on-time.
