General
ELTA’s EL/L-8247/8 Integral Self Protection Suites are compact, modern, advanced and cost-effective. The systems
are designed to enhance the survivability of fighters, helicopters and other military aircraft by suppressing multiple
threats in dense radar-guided weapon systems environments.
These Self Protection Suites, marketed as Radar Warning and Jamming Systems (RWJS), share the same hardware
and software for executing Radar Warning Receiver and Jammer missions.
Including cutting-edge Exciter and ESM Receiver, these compact systems are able to protect any airborne platform
from existing regular and modern threats to future threats (Air-to-Air and Surface-to-Air).
Due to the small dimensions and the flexibility of its interfaces, the RWJS can be easily integrated with any airborne
platform’s avionics, including Chaff and Flares Dispenser, Missile Warning System, Laser Warning System, Towed RF
Decoy and Multi-Function Display.
The RWJS is flight-line reprogrammable. Using PC-based equipment and user-friendly human-machine interface,
threats and jamming EW techniques may be easily updated.
Hundreds of ELTA’s Self-Protection Systems are deployed in Israel and worldwide on Western and Eastern military
airborne platforms.
The RWJS incorporates modern architecture and advanced technologies based on ELTA’s field proven experience of
more than 30 years in design and manufacturing of EW Systems and based on operational feedback.

RWJS Main Features
RWJS Description
Wide frequency band coverage and wide spacial coverage,
360° for radar warning, and front & aft sectors for jamming.
The RWJS is comprised of the following units:
RWJS Central Unit
Transmitters
Receiving Antennas
Common ESM receiver and receiving antennas for RWR and
Jammer.
Optimal system regime by elimination of mutual interference
between RWR and Jammer.
Power-managed jamming in time, frequency and direction for
coping with multiple threats.
Effective jamming capabilities including high sensitivity, high
ERP and wide EW techniques repertoire.
Enhanced and user-friendly debriefing capabilities: all mission
events and data are recorded and debriefed using for replay
PC-based equipment.
Lightweight (17-30 kg) and small dimensions of Central Unit.
Flexible transmitters configuration.
Low Life Cycle Cost, easy maintenance, high reliability and
availability, minimal ILS requirements.
Front-End Amplifiers
Transmitting Antennas
The RF signals received via the receiving Antennas are amplified
by Front-End Amplifiers and fed to the advanced Channelized
Receiver in the Central Unit.
The Receiver measures all the RF signals parameters such as
PRF, PRI, PW, direction etc., building pulse descriptors that are
fed to the Central Processor.
The Central Processor extracts the threats according to priority
and level of lethality and provides the situation awareness to the
pilot via the Multi-Function display.
Upon detection of a lethal threat, the Central Processor activates
the Jammer, selecting the appropriate EW technique for each
threat. The jammer is capable of responding simultaneously to
several threats by implementing Power Management techniques.
