The pages are not a substitute for current charts, a full FSS briefing on weather and NOTAMS, or proper flight planning. Pay particular attention to the information provided for airports located in busy airspace, mountainous areas, or those with complex ground operations, and review the pages prior to departure. Notify an ATP instructor if you encounter a situation that differs significantly from what is noted on the pages. With a few exceptions, the page format is maintained throughout, so information can be easily located. The pages are updated periodically and a revision number is indicated on the front cover. The charts are primarily for IFR flight but VFR information may be included for situational awareness. Frequencies are not normally included, as they can be found on IFR charts and plates. A few of the uncontrolled airport pages emphasize the need for CTAF position reporting, Unicom use and remaining alert for traffic, but these procedures are important whenever conducting non-tower operations. Key page features are noted below: Tower hours (above left diagram) are in local time. Uncontrolled airports are also noted. Aircraft parking locations are indicated on the right diagram. The small airplane figure may not be aligned with the actual parking direction. Control Tower phone number is located just under the “Arrivals” section. If you are at an uncontrolled airport ensure your flight plan is closed, call this number. Additional means of obtaining clearances and closing flight plans are located in the Integrated Flow checklists. If a runway uses right traffic, it will be noted at the bottom of the “Arrivals” section. If available, an ASOS/AWOS phone number is provided at the bottom of the “Departures” section as an alternative means of obtaining current weather for flight planning and performance calculations. The “Departures” section reminds you to review the Obstacle DP if the airport has one. Remember that these procedures are mandatory if not assigned a different Departure Procedure. Any gate / door codes indicated in the “Ground Ops” or “ATP Office” section or from Flight Ops are for ATP student and instructor use only. Safeguard this information. The FBO phone number is followed by its frequency if available. If the airport has an ATP maintenance facility, it is noted at the bottom of the “ATP Office” section. Arrival and departure data may not be as thorough at non-ATP airports due to less frequent ATP operations at these airports. Advise Flight Ops of any information that may be out of date or inaccurate. ** REFER TO CURRENT CHARTS FOR ACCURATE NAVIGATIONAL DATA ** ADDISON ADS - Addison Airport TOWER AIRPORT // 0600-2200 DALLAS, TX ATP OFFICE LOCATION AIRCRAFT PARKING LOCATION ARRIVALS: DEPARTURES: Runup: Runway 15 has a large runup at north end of Taxiway A. There are several issues to be aware of when operating at GKY: Grand Prairie Airport (GPM) lies just 3 miles NE. The Runway alignment is very similar to GKY and could be confused with GKY. This is a particular concern if on the offset VOR DME 34 to GKY, which has an approach path aligned to both airports. In addition to heavy fixed wing and helicopter training at GKY, VFR traffic headed to other airports in the DFW area frequently overflies the traffic pattern, and aircraft occasionally enter the pattern with no radio calls. Southbound Grand Prairie traffic may also pass close to left downwind traffic to Runway 16 at GKY. Runway 16 is the preferred calm wind Runway. 2450’ MSL antennas 10 miles SE on eastern shore of Lake Joe Pool as depicted on GKY approach plates. REVIEW ACTUAL CHARTS TO ENSURE CURRENT PROCEDURE RIVERSIDE OBSTACLE DP EXPLANATION In addition to the busy Los Angeles Class “B” airspace, Riverside Municipal Airport (RAL) is flanked by 10,000’ mountain peaks to the north and 5700’ peaks to the south. To aid pilots in safely avoiding these mountains the Riverside Obstacle DP is frequently assigned by ATC. Due to the proximity of Paradise (PDZ) VOR to the airport, and a quick series of turns necessary to transition from the runway to an airway, this procedure is complex enough to merit careful review prior to departure. The diagram below is a graphical depiction of the Obstacle DP. Runway 16/34 information is not noted as it is 2800’ and should not be used by ATP aircraft. All airways departing PDZ VOR, as well as common filing routes to SAC, PHX and LAS are shown below. Sacramento departure fixes may start with V186.DARTS.V459.LHS. The Obstacle DP allows a climb on course after crossing PDZ. Phoenix flight plans, weather permitting, may start with V186.NIKKL.V64.TRM. The Obstacle DP also allows a climb on course after crossing PDZ. Las Vegas departures may file via V442.APLES, then through HEC or DAG. Unless ATC provides a radar vector on course at a lower MVA (minimum vectoring altitude), this departure will require a climb in holding over PDZ to 6700’ before departing the hold and continuing a climb to 9000’ (the Airway MEA), or as assigned by ATC. Note: This information is NOT FOR NAVIGATION. This is for reference only and is not kept current. Refer to the current Obstacle DP OBSTACLE DEPARTURE PROCEDURE: Runway 9, climb heading 089° to 1700 then climbing right turn heading 210° to intercept PDZ VORTAC R-093 to PDZ VORTAC Runway 27, climb heading 269° to 2200 then climbing left turn direct PDZ VORTAC, Runway 16, not authorized Runway 34, not authorized ... Aircraft departing PDZ VORTAC R-091 CW R-140 and R-231 CW R-280 climb on course. All others climb in holding pattern (hold NE, right turns, 210° inbound) to cross PDZ VORTAC at or above; R-321 CW R-340 7800; All others 7200 or airway MEA. ** REFER TO CURRENT CHARTS FOR ACCURATE NAVIGATIONAL DATA ** RDU - Raleigh Durham Intl. Both air and ground operations require close attention and prior planning due to several issues: High airport elevation and even higher density altitude on hot days equals higher true airspeeds and ground-speeds and reduced climb performance. Think ahead. While on left traffic to 30L, do not descend from the pattern early or fly below glide path due to power lines and an antenna below. Heavy VFR traffic, a helicopter school, and a tour operator extensively use the airfield. On approach, advise tower unfamiliar with airport to avoid having to report local ground reference points. High mountains flank the Las Vegas Basin in all directions reaching 12,000’ to the NW and 10,000’ to the N. These mountains are often not visible on clear dark nights. Do not cancel IFR at night in flight unless absolutely certain of safe approach to landing. GPS 12R is normally the only approach available due to Class “B” to the SE. If arriving from over Las Vegas, the handoff from approach to tower can happen fairly close to VGT possibly rushing you into a visual approach with minimal time to prepare for a safe landing. Requesting the GPS approach is not only good training procedure on cross country flights, it will also afford you more time to set up for a safe approach and landing.
