 TITLE: Computer Technician CLASSIFICATION: Classified DEPARTMENT: Information Services – Central Office BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY Under the direct supervision of the Director of Information Services, provides technical support, analyzes problems, and performs maintenance of microcomputers, peripheral equipment and local and wide area network systems; installs and configures hardware and software, and performs other related duties. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  Installs, repairs, adjusts, and maintains computer equipment including network and internal components.  Installs computers and related equipment onto district networks.  Installs, tests, and troubleshoots various computer cable systems.  Provides personal consultation and training to users for hardware and software.  Assists users with problems involving PC/terminal applications software.  Maintains equipment, supply, inventory, and repair records.  Performs other related duties that facilitate the use of technology by students, teachers, support staff and administration as assigned. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS  Assists in the installation, repair and maintenance of wireless LAN/WAN components.  Provides technical support to staff and students related to computers and computer systems. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Requires Knowledge of:  Principles, capabilities and operations of computer systems, operating systems and related equipment.  Networking practices, operating system and hardware protocols, and operations of microcomputer equipment.  Microcomputer technologies with a clear understanding of computer hardware and software troubleshooting and repair.  Standard office personal computer software. Read and write at a level sufficient for the performance of assigned duties. Communicate effectively with individuals and small groups. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Work independently with a minimum of supervision. Prepare and compile accurate records. Operate standard computer hardware testing equipment. Operate standard office computer and network software. Use small hand tools to remove/install and repair computer hardware and network cable systems. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. EXPERIENCE  A minimum of two years’ experience in technical support capacity with significant direct interaction with users.  A two‐year degree in a computer related discipline or equivalent experience and training. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical requirements indicated below are necessary to perform the essential job functions. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable a person with a disability to perform these functions.  Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, judge distances and spatial relationships and identify and distinguish small objects at close distances.  Sufficient hearing to hear conversation in person, on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 20 feet.  Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone and when addressing small groups.  Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to push, pull, drag, or otherwise move objects.  This type of work requires frequent and continuous sitting for extended periods of time.  Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and or manipulate very small objects with hand tools, move about the work area, and move between work sites.  Employees in this classification work in a standard office environment and frequently move between work sites.
