1. Technical description
The CAEN Mod. A864 is a high efficiency power supply providing a programmable and
monitorable output voltage ranging from 0 to +2100 V, when supplied with a +12 V input.
The board is provided with an over-current protection: if a current larger than the Iout
maximum value (see Table 1.1) is drawn, the module is not being damaged.
The output voltage is regulated by providing a 0 to +2.5 V external voltage (Vset). The
A864 provides a maximum output of +2300 V even if Vset exceeds the +2.5 V value, thus
avoiding damages in the supplied device.
The module is engineered on a polyamide PCB, coated and housed in an alloy box.

2. Package
The module is housed in a 100mm X 25mm X 13 mm metal box. The board is
engineered on a polyamide PCB and all components are coated.

The module features six Input/Output pins (see Fig. 3.1). The following sections will
describe their function.

3.1. GND
Pin 1 and Pin 6 must be connected to ground (there is no galvanical insulation between
them).
3.2. Vin
Pin 2 must be supplied with a +12 V (± 5%) dc voltage.
3.3. Vset input
Pin 3 must be supplied with a voltage ranging from 0 to +2.5 V dc, in order to regulate the
output voltage (see § 3.5) from 0 to 2100 V (Vset=0 V → Vout=0 V, Vset=+2.5 V →
Vout=+2100 V).
Vset may exceed the 2.5 V value, leading Vout (see § 3.5) to its 2300 V hardware
upper limit.
Linearity is not guaranteed when Vset exceeds the +2.5 V value.
3.4. Vmon output
Pin 4 provides a voltage ranging from 0 to +5 V dc, which allows to monitor the output
voltage (see § 3.5) from 0 to +2100 V.
If Vmon=0 V then the output voltage is 0 V, if Vmon=+5 V then the output voltage is
+2100 V.

Vout
Pin 5 provides the HV output. This value can be regulated from 0 to +2100 V (see § 3.3);
the hardware safety limit is set at +2300 V.
