regards to printer/paper profiles with this visual
example, we are able to see very clearly that
Canson’s generic profile for Rag Photographique
310 GSM on an Epson 3880 is represented by the
smaller color space on the below graph and equals
513,593 total gamut volume. Now, if we look at
the custom profile in the wire frame below, for the
very same paper and printer, the new total gamut
is 749,789 colors. The white point is a lab value of
97. The maximum black or Dmax lab value is now

the brightest white?” The easy answer is “The paper that contains
the most optical brighteners”. A natural base paper without
optical brighteners will have a yellowish or slight cream color
compared to a paper with a lot of optical brighteners in it. Optical
Brightening Agents are chemical dye additives that make the paper
base appear brighter and bluer to our eyes when exposed to the
ultraviolet light, but will fade over time due to exposure to UV light.

Weight vs. Thickness
A common misconception is that the letters GSM on boxes of inkjet paper refer to the thickness of the
paper. This, of course, is not true. GSM or g/m2 stands for Grams per Square Meter and is a measure
of weight, not thickness. Simply stated, if you were to pour one square meter of the paper pulp onto
a flat surface, how many grams it weighs equals the GSM. Thickness is measured in mils or microns.
A mil = 1/1000th of an inch and a Micron = 1/1000th of a millimeter. GSM being a measurement of
weight, means that many papers of a certain weight, i.e. 310 GSM can be different thicknesses based
on the density of the pulp used in manufacturing the paper. There are RC papers that are 310 GSM
that are stiff, but thin, compared to 100% cotton fine art papers, which feel thick, but more spongy.
The bottom line is that not all papers of the same GSM are the same thickness.

DASS ART WonderSauce Clear
DASS ART Universal Precoat II is a liquid inkjet
emulsion used in order to print on challenging
surfaces. This product is used for preparing
porous and non-porous surfaces (e.g. paper,
metal, acrylic paint) to receive inkjet pigment.
It is water clear and can be used on various
surfaces for direct printing or as a surface
prep to receive transfer sauces.
DASS ART WonderSauce Clear is a readyto-use solution and is an alcohol free
transfer medium that is complimentary to
SuperSauce Solution – some processes
work best with WonderSauce, some with
SuperSauce, and some with both. Use
