Drosophila Vials
These quality Drosophila vials are precision moulded from premium grade polystyrene, K-Resin or polypropylene. All of Genesee Scientific fly vials are
conveniently offered in either tray pack or bulk pack configurations. The tray pack 10 x 10 row configuration is great for quick, effortless filling. The bulk
pack vials are layered with open-end orientation for convenient handling and smaller case size.
Polystyrene fly vials offer glass-like clarity for excellent visibility. These fly vials are a safe and cost-saving alternative to glass vials. Polystyrene vials are
not autoclavable.
K-Resin fly vials offer glass-like clarity and rugged durability. This unique material is highly flexible, virtually unbreakable and scratch-resistant. Therefore,
K-Resin are an excellent choice for shipping flies. K-Resin fly vials are not autoclavable.
Polypropylene fly vials are fully autoclavable. These virtually indestructible fly vials offer good clarity and cost savings.

The reload system tray is precision plastic injection molded and features a self-contained divider/partition system. 100 plastic vials can be loaded in

Flugs are bonded dense weave cellulose acetate plugs for Drosophila vials and bottles. Flugs
(short for Fly Plugs) are said to provide a better barrier to mites than cotton and rayon, and
especially paper lids and foam plugs. Additionally, Flugs offer minimal shedding compared to
cotton and rayon as well as reduced evaporation, which keeps food fresher longer.

Nutri-FlyTM Bloomington Formulation
Nutri-Fly BF is made to accommodate the requirements of large, communal Drosophila media preparation facilities as well as small, independent laboratories. Recipe can be doubled, tripled, etc. in the
same batches to meet any media quantity requirements. For consistency, most ingredients* come from the manufacturers cited on the Indiana University, Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center website:
www.flystocks.bio.indiana.edu/Fly_Work/media-recipes/bloomfood.htm. Sealed in single-use foil pouches, Nutri-Fly BF is not only convenient but also robust, and guaranteed to make fresh and substantive
food throughout its shelf-life of two years from delivery. Strict lot traceability procedures are employed to each ingredient, in every batch.
Directions: Empty entire contents of packet into a cooking vessel. Add ¼ - ½ specified RT H2O and stir out any clumps. Add remaining RT H2O and stir. Bring to a boil, then immediately reduce heat and
cover. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add specified propionic acid** quantity, (not supplied).

Superfly Drosophila Specific Refrigerated Incubator
Sheldon Manufacturing, Inc. has developed the first Drosophila specific low temperature incubator that takes advantage of the range
of temperatures acceptable in Drosophila culture allowing the condensing coils adequate cycling time, thus avoiding ice build-up. The
Superfly addresses all of the major performance issues associated with other incubators on the market.
Superfly Functionality - The Superfly Drosophila specific incubator functions within the range of temperatures preferred by fruit flies.
Unlike standard low temperature incubators intended for Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) applications, the incubator gently fluctuates
between 17°C and 19°C (default setting, “out of the box”). The unit is fully programmable between a range of 5°C and 30°C. The elements
will only activate if the chamber temperature goes below the lowest acceptable level. The compressor will shut off and rest while the
chamber temperature slowly rises in response to a door opening or heat from fan or optional light.

• Condenser cycles on and off preventing ice build-up on coils. There is no need to defrost the unit.
• Fruit fly emissions will not freeze on the coils and therefore will not compromise integrity of refrigeration system. To assure no

• Gentle fluctuations in temperature and light cycles more accurately mimic a natural environment encouraging circadian rhythm.

• Microprocessor-controlled interior light mimics diurnal cycles that foster breeding.
