General Installation Instructions

General Installation Instructions
LED
• To reduce the risk of death, personal injury or property damage from fire, electric shock, falling parts, cuts/abrasions and other hazards,
please read all warnings and instructions included with and on the luminaire box and all luminaire labels.
• Before installing, servicing or performing routine maintenance upon this equipment, follow these general precautions.
• Installation and service of luminaires should be performed by a qualified licensed electrician.
• Maintenance of the luminaires should be performed by person(s) familiar with the luminaires’ construction and operation and any hazards
involved. Regular luminaire maintenance programs are recommended.
• It will occasionally be necessary to clean the outside of the refractor/lens. Frequency of cleaning will depend on ambient dirt level and
minimum light output which is acceptable to user. Refractor/lens should be washed in a solution of warm water and any mild, nonabrasive household detergent, rinsed with clean water and wiped dry. Should optical assembly become dirty on the inside, wipe refractor/
lens and clean in above manner, replacing damaged gaskets as necessary.
• DO NOT INSTALL DAMAGED PRODUCT! This luminaire has been properly packed so that no parts should have been damaged during
transit. Inspect to confirm. Any part damaged or broken during or after assembly should be replaced.
• Recycle: For information on how to recycle LED electronic products, please visit www.epa.gov.
• These instructions do not purport to cover all details or variations in equipment nor to provide every possible contingency to meet in
connection with installation, operation or maintenance. Should further information be desired or should particular problems arise which
are not covered sufficiently for the purchaser’s or owner’s purposes, this matter should be referred to Acuity Brands Lighting, Inc., a parent
company of Peerless Lighting.
WARNING
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK
4Disconnect or turn off power before installation or
servicing.
4Verify that supply voltage is correct by comparing it with
the luminaire label information.
4Make all electrical and grounded connections in
accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and
any applicable local code requirements.
4All wiring connections should be capped with UL approved
recognized wire connectors.
4To prevent luminaire row from over-current: By adding
the input current of each luminaire section marked on
the luminaire, the total current per power feed must not
exceed the maximum line wire amperage marked on the
luminaire and the power feed cord/wire amperage rating
whichever the least.
WARNING
RISK OF BURN
4Allow lamp/luminaire to cool before handling. Do not
touch enclosure or light source.
4Do not exceed maximum wattage marked on luminaire
label.
4Follow all manufacturer’s warnings, recommendations and
restrictions for: driver type, burning position, mounting
locations/methods, replacement and recycling.

CAUTION
RISK OF INJURY
CAUTION
RISK OF FIRE
4Wear gloves and safety glasses at all times when removing
luminaire from carton, installing, servicing or performing
maintenance.
4Avoid direct eye exposure to the light source while it is on.
4Keep combustible and other materials that can burn away
from lamp/lens.
4Do not operate in close proximity to persons, combustible
materials or substances affected by heat or drying.
CAUTION
RISK OF PRODUCT DAMAGE
4Never connect components under load.
4Do not mount or support these luminaires in a manner that can cut the outer jacket or damage wire insulation.
4Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Never connect an LED product directly to a dimmer packs, occupancy
sensors, timing devices, or other related control devices. LED luminaires must be powered directly off a switched circuit.
4Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not restrict luminaire ventilation. Allow for some volume of airspace
around luminaire. Avoid covering LED luminaires with insulation, foam or other material that will prevent convection or conduction
cooling.
4Unless individual product specifications deem otherwise: Do not exceed luminaire’s maximum ambient temperature.
4Only use luminaire in its intended location.
4LED products are polarity sensitive. Ensure proper polarity before installation.
4Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): ESD can damage LED fixtures. Personal grounding equipment must be worn during all installation or
servicing of the unit.
4Do not touch individual electrical components as this can cause ESD, shorten lamp life or alter performance.
4Some components inside the luminaire may not be serviceable. In the unlikely event your unit may require service, stop using the
unit immediately and contact a Peerless Lighting representative for assistance.
4Always read the fixtures complete installation instructions prior to installation for any additional luminaire specific warnings.

B) Wall-Mounted Installation
1
Using a laser or snap line, mark wall for
center line. Using support spacing diagram
determine locations of power feed and
supports. Cut wall material and install 2”x4”
J-box (by others) at feed location. Pull
building wires as shown.
4
For individual luminaire (IND option). Raise
the luminaire into position. Connect to
building power using appropriate wire nuts
(by others). Level and secure the luminaire
to wall mounting brackets. Install wireway
covers to complete the installation. Note: For
modular luminaires, skip to Steps 5-10.
7
To join luminaires together, raise the
connecting luminaire into position. Plug in
the wire connectors.
2
Sandwich J-box cover plate between J-box
and bracket as shown. Install mounting
bracket to wall using (2) 1/4-20 bolts (by
others).
5
Connect power feed wire harness as shown.
Insert connection back into luminaire. Fold
or break the aligner tab at joiner, install and
secure end-cap. Raise the luminaire into
position. Connect to building power using
appropriate wire nuts (by others). Secure the
luminaire to wall mounting brackets.
8
Connect the luminaire at the joiner location
and secure to wall. Repeat Steps 6-8 until
last section is hung. For modular fluorescent
luminaires (left). Bolt luminaires together
with (2) ¼-20 screws using a Philips
screwdriver. For modular LED luminaires
(right). Bolt luminaires together with (2)
¼-20 socket head screws using a 3/16
socket allen wrench.
3
Install non-power feed wall brackets to wall
along laser/snap line using (2) 1/4-20 bolts
per bracket. Use (2) wall brackets for 4’ and
8’ luminaire sections, (3) wall brackets for 12’
luminaire sections.
6
At non-power feed location for next
luminaire in run, gently pull female wire
harness from cavity (or cap-off) as shown.
Disconnect and discard power feed (pigtail).
9
For the last luminaire, fold or break the
aligner tab at joiner, install and secure endcap. Raise the luminaire into position. Plug in
the wire connectors. Connect the luminaire
at the joiner location and secure to wall as in
Steps 7 and 8.

Level the whole row at each hanger location
as necessary. Tighten screws on all hangers.
Install wireway covers on both ends to
complete the installation.
C) OPTIONAL Dust Cover (DU) Installation
1
For SPW9L (LED), simply remove the dust
cover for cleaning during maintenance and
then restore the part by overlaying it atop
the luminaire as shown.
2
For SPW9 AND SPW4 (Fluorescent), simply
remove the dust cover to re-lamp during
maintenance and then replace the dust cover
centering it over the lamp(s) as shown.
