It is both essential and prudent to pay close attention to your strengths
and/or weaknesses when choosing a professional degree programme.
Students studying for such programme need to be mindful of the duty
or care to patients/clients and their Fitness to Practice whilst
working/studying in that relevant profession. For further information on
Fitness to Practice policy please see

Students will be asked to study the relevant professional degree
programmes related to Fitness to Practice and to declare, at first
registration, any disability or health condition that in his/her opinion,
may impact on their ability to undertake safe and effective practice.

Please note processing your exemption with the NUI is the most
important thing you will do with your exemption/language waiver. It
is essential that you contact the NUI and tell them:
“I wish to process my language exemption with the NUI…”
If this is not done, there could be implications regarding course
requirements and you may not receive your place even if you have the
points.

Some report have a 3 year age limit on them, where the report must be
less that 3 years old i.e. dated after 1st February 2010. This rule applies
to Mental Health conditions, Significant Ongoing Illness and Specific

DARE DEFERRALS
Can I carry forward my eligibility
for DARE?
PLEASE LIST ANSWERS AND ANY IFORMATION

(a) Eligibility for DARE may be carried forward for one year. If you
are eligible for DARE and you accept your CAO choice but you
defer your place (along with your DARE eligibility) until the
following year, then you can use your DARE eligibility again. In
this case you must do the following:

Reapply to the CAO before 1 February 2013
Pay the appropriate application fee
Put down only that one course that you got the
deferral for
Tick the deferral box on the CAO application
Automatically then accepted into the course
(For further information on the above, please contact the
Admissions Office , UCC)
Students do not need to send in supporting documentation for
this as you will be using the original supporting documentation
which accompanied your original application.
(b) If you were eligible for DARE and accepted your CAO offer and
subsequently dropped out of your degree programme, you
may reapply for eligibility for 2013. You need to do the
following:

Apply to the CAO by 1st February 2013
No later than 1st of Mary 2013 you must disclose your
disability and tick YES to question 5.
All supporting documentation must be sent in again
this year for students who have dropped out of their
degree programme. Effectively you are applying
through the whole process again.
(c) If you were eligible for DARE (2012) and you did not accept any
college offer, then your DARE eligibility may be carried forward
to your application for entry in 2013. In order to carry forward
eligibility you must do the following:
Apply to the CAO by 1st February 2013
Ensure that you tick YES to Question 5 by March 1st 2013
and complete Section A. You do not need to complete
Section B or Section C. Ensure to put in your CAO number
from 2012 (previous year) as this is essential. In the event
of being offered a place in 2013, you will be required to
provide the original supporting documentation which
accompanied your original documentation in your 2012
DARE application
You must supply your correct 2012 CAO number at
question 6.

It is very important to have good IT skills for college.
You will be typing a lot of essays and assignments or using spreadsheets
and regularly using a computer or laptop.
Whether working on a word document, editing a document, creating
tables or drawing up spreadsheets, downloading information,
understanding what your computer can do for you and how it can do it
is very important when in college!
Make sure you have all the basics. If you feel that this area needs
improvement then perhaps you could spend some time improving them
during the summer or enroll in an ECDL course
