Instructions
The product is the special episcopic LED ring illuminator for the “MULTIZOOM AZ100” microscope. The
illuminator features white LEDs arranged as a ring. It is attached on the tip of the objective for illuminating a
specimen. The product can be attached to an objective of 0.5x or 1x magnification and is recommended for
low reflectance specimens.

Attachable objectives
The product can be attached to the following objectives:
AZ-Plan Apo 0.5x,
AZ-Plan Apo 1x
* The product cannot be attached to the objective of 2x, 4x, or 5x magnification (AZ-Plan Fluor 2x, AZ-Plan
Apo 4x, AZ-Plan Fluor 5x).
Attaching an adapter (for the objective of 1x magnification)
To use the illuminator with the objective of 1x magnification,
attach the special adapter provided with the illuminator.
1. Fully loosen the thumbscrew (clamp screw) on the side
of the illuminator.

2. Align the screw hole of the adapter with the clamp
screw of the illuminator and insert the adapter into the
illuminator.
3. Tighten the fixing screw for the adapter on the opposite
side of the thumbscrew (clamp screw) by using a
hexagonal driver provided with the AZ100 Zoom Body.

Attaching the illuminator
Attach the illuminator to the objective. For the objective of 0.5x,
the illuminator is attached directly. For the objective of 1x
magnification, use the adapter. (See the item above.)
1. Fully loosen the thumbscrew (clamp screw) on the side
of the illuminator.
2. Be careful not to damage the objective. Attach the
illuminator to the tip of the objective so that the LEDs
are facing downward.
3. Fully raise the illuminator and fix it with the
thumbscrew (clamp screw).
The tip of the thumbscrew catches the groove of the
objective and the illuminator is fixed.

Connecting the power supply
Connect the power supply to the illuminator.
1. Check the position and orientation of the connector on
the side of the illuminator.
2. Connect the cord (DC power cord) fixed to the power
supply.

3. Connect another end to the wall outlet.
Illumination control
To turn on the illumination, turn on the power switch on the
power supply. To turn off the illumination, turn off the power
switch on the power supply.

Cautions about the power cord: Make sure to use the specified power cord for the AZ-LED. Using a wrong power cord

CAUTION
1.
Handle with care: The product and the microscope system are precision optical instruments. Handle the product
with care to avoid shock or impact. In particular, objectives may loose accuracy when exposed to even a weak
physical shock.
2.
Do not wet the product or allow foreign matter to get inside: Never allow water to come into contact with the
product because that may cause an electric shock or malfunction. Similarly, if foreign matter gets inside, an electric
shock or malfunction may occur. If water or foreign matter enters the product, do not use the product but contact your
nearest Nikon representative.
3. Turn off the power before assembling the product or connecting or disconnecting the cable: To prevent an
electric shock and fire, turn off the power switch and disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet before assembling
the product.
4.
Installation location: Being a precision optical instrument, the microscope may get damaged or loose accuracy if it
is used or stored under unsuitable conditions. When selecting the installation location, note the following:
• Avoid a brightly lit location, such as exposed to direct sunlight or directly under a room light. The image
quality deteriorates if there is excessive ambient light.
• Always install the microscope with a surrounding clear area of 10 cm or more.
• Choose a location that is free from dust or dirt.
• Choose a flat surface with little vibration.
• Choose a sturdy desk or table that is able to bear the weight of the instrument.
• Do not install the microscope in a hot or humid location.
• Select a layout that allows easy removal of the power cord from the microscope’s AC inlet in the event of an
emergency.

5.
Weak electromagnetic waves: The product emits weak electromagnetic waves. Do not install the product near
precision electronic devices to prevent degrading their performance. If a TV or radio reception is affected, move the
TV or radio set farther from the product.
