back for disassembly and recycle all constituent materials where possible at no cost to the
customer (excluding freight). Offering the complete life cycle solution to our product range.
We trust that these green endeavours and our expanded product offering, in conjunction

Introduction • general Information
WhatsizescreendoIneed?
The following diagrams explain the industry standard method for calculating the desired projection screen size,
based on sitting position and average chair height, expecting a home theatre viewer to be seated in a lounge
chair and a corporate viewer to be seated in an office or boardroom chair, which is traditionally higher in the seat.
This diagram is to be used as a guide only as many personal factors of preference will come into play when
deciding this issue, but this is a good guide to start working from as a base - don’t forget that the image throw
characteristics of your projector will also be an important factor in screen size determination. Make sure that
after you have decided on a screen size and a projector location that no physical obstacles will prevent your
projector placement, thus requiring a re-size of the screen.
HomeTheatreSingle•SeatPosition
These standards apply to most formats.
The bottom measurement on diagram indicates the ideal floor to
bottom of screen height, again as a guide only.
Example:
Viewer wishes to sit 4m from the screen.
4m/3 = 1.3m, Screen height = 1.3m
Then consider the following:
Available sizes, Site conditions, Customer requirements,
Projector characteristics.
NB: Please consider 4 x height formula for 2.35:1 Cinemascope
CorporateAV•Multi-positionseating
These standards apply to most formats.
The bottom measurement on diagram indicates the ideal floor to
bottom of screen height, again as a guide only.
Example:
Closest viewer is 3m from screen furthest viewer is 8m away.
3m/2 = 1.5m Max height
8m/6 = 1.3m Min height
Then consider the following:
Available sizes, Site conditions, Customer requirements,
Projector characteristics.
ScreenBordersandLeaderDrop
Black masking borders are standard on all Screen Technics Front Projection Screens at no additional cost to user.
Borders enhance the perceived brightness and contrast levels for the image on the screen and are therefore an
absolute necessity for obtaining the best results from your projector.
Borders also allow the projected image to “bleed off” the screen and present a sharp edge to the viewer.
Standard borders on all roll down style screens (except the Admiral and Chancellor) are 50mm on each side
(40mm sides and no top or bottom leader on AV square format) and 65mm to the bottom including slat rod and
50mm set at the top, with further adjustable leader capacity within the head box canister, which varies from
product to product, so please contact the sales department for details.

AspectRatio/Formats
Aspect ratios describe the shape of the screen in regards to the width by the height, and choosing which
format best suits the end user is a crucial decision.
In Australia / New Zealand the commonly used ratio formats are AV Square, Video 4:3, hDTV 16:9, with
Cinemascope 2.35:1 and 16:10 formats becoming evermore popular.
Being a manufacturer, Screen Technics can make any screen format required.
AVSquare
Format is the width by drop being the same measurement, and is primarily
used by educational facilities who use a combination of AV tools such as
overhead projectors or computer generated projected images.
AV
SQUARE
1 Unit W x 1 Unit H
Video4:3
Format is the standard shape in most commercial environments where
the projection of data is the primary aim. Most computer monitors are in
Video 4:3 format.
VIDEO
4:3
4 Units W x 3 Units H
HDTV16:9
This format is the standard shape for all widescreen TVs and
commonly used by DVD movie discs for widescreen displays, so
this format is most suitable for DVD movie watchers.
HDTV
16:9
16 Units W x 9 Units H
16:10
A newly created format that has become popular with laptop
manufacturers for their LCD screens, and due to the change in
their graphic output, projector manufacturers are releasing 16:10
chipped projectors for commercial environments.
16:10
16 Units W x 10 Units H
Cinemascope2.35:1
A long standing commercial theatre format, with the release
of anamorphic lens technology allowing standard projectors
to display a Cinemascope image, this dedicated movie format
has recently entered the mainstream home theatre scene.
CINEMASCOPE

2.35 Units W x 1 Units H
ScreenSizeOrdering&CustomSizes
All sizes stated are net picture area, being the white viewing area and does not include any black border
or leader dimensions.
It is common to refer to screen in inches and this is always the diagonal measurement, when talking
metric it is the width by the drop or height that is generally being discussed.
Screen Technics is an Australian manufacturer and can therefore make up custom sizes to suit individual
projects. Please ring the sales department to seek advice.

Matrix White has a unique micro-textured surface which displays a sharper
resolution level and the grey backing allows no light to pass through the fabric,
therefore increasing brightness levels over the standard matt white fabric,
through improved reflection of the projected light.

CinemaSnap
The CinemaSnap fixed frame screen system can be utilised with rear
projection material to allow for projector placement behind the screen,
for use in a high light environment and where a trainer / presenter can
move in front of the screen without blocking the light beam. It also
removes the projector from the working area and provides a better
contrast ratio.
As Micro Perforated screen material is acoustically transparent
it is designed for speaker placement behind the screen, which
allows for an accurate soundscape with centre speakers, with
minimal interference of the acoustic performance.

The standard CinemaSnap frame has powder coat black ripple as a finish,
but if you want a Deluxe finish on your frame, why not have it Flocked!
With a black velvet style finish this not only looks great but as a bonus it
soaks up projector overscan better than the standard finish.

Take the standard CinemaSnap fixed frame screen and bolt on these ‘T’ Legs and you have
the perfect mobile presentation screen which can be moved from room to room where the
occasional screen is required for conferences and training purposes.
Less complicated to erect and more economical than the traditional portable TechFold
Screen, just remember you cannot pack it away in a roadcase when you are finished, it is
more of an “on-premises” style screen solution.

Screen Lowering Device
Projection screens do not like having ultra long top leaders as the
lay-flat properties of the screen deteriorate with any additional
leader. So what do you do if you have a very high ceiling, say in
a Church or Town Hall? You lower the actual projection screen
into position, then motor down the screen, and this is precisely
what the Interfit Screen Lowering Device can do for you in these
challenging environments.
Utilising a secondary motor system that lowers and raises an ElectriCinema
projection screen into position, it comes with a top enclosure for the screen
to rest in when not in use and full cable management for both the primary
screen and secondary lift motor. The screen comes as part of the package
and is not ordered separately.

Interfit Lifters
for Projectors &
Flat Panels
Introduction
Screen Technics created the Interfit range back in 2005 in response to the growing
Audiovisual Lifting Device market, on the back of flat panel introduction and
automation solutions falling within reach of the home and office environment.
For many years we had manufactured custom based solutions for projector, TV and flat
panel screen lifters, and with the extra demand came the need for a standardized range of
products. So with this in mind we went back to the drawing board to create an entire suite
of lifting devices.
The result … a comprehensive range of lifting devices for Projectors and Plasma LCD panels
all designed with ease of installation in mind, plus high quality painted surfaces and ceiling
edge strips for no fuss single trade fitting.
All Interfit Lifters come standard with the Connect motor controller that allows for IR remote
control, contact closure for building management systems plus the ability to link with
Screen Technics projection screens or roller blind systems.
Projector Lifts
The Interfit Projector Lift is without doubt the
most comprehensive model line-up for any
Projector Lift in the AV world.
Lightweight, with a structurally rigid design,
form follows function here to the extreme,
leaving no space unused and no feature
undeserving of its place in the design.
Comprehensive model line-up … dozens of different
size variations … why would you look anywhere else?
Interfit Lifters are designed for ease of installation,
whereas previously it was necessary to have access
above the ceiling line to fit a projector lift, now the
engineers at Screen Technics have done the hard
work for you and provided the capacity to install the
unit through its own hole.
All Interfit Projector Lifts now come standard with
the new Connect Module, including the IR Remote
Kit, so the issue of control is all sorted straight out
of the box, with IR Remote and Dry Contact Closure
as standard, and the ability to link to other Connect
controlled devices, such as ElectriCinema Projection
Screens

Motor Control
Systems
audiovisual environments
and automated
window coverings
Introduction
Motor Control Systems
Screen Technics has created a suite of motor control systems that allows integrated control
over 240 VAC 2amp tubular motors and 24 VDC 2amp electric motors, for audiovisual
environments and automated window coverings.
These systems can be stand alone control or used as an integration platform for more
advance Building Management Systems for the total control solution.
The Power to Connect…
iConnect • Motor Controllers
iConnectOverview
The iConnect series of modules is designed to be used to control motors in projection screens, roller blind systems and AV
lifting devices in domestic and commercial environments.
The iConnect modules can be networked to each other via 6 core cable, straight through with RJ12 connectors. Control is
signalled by Infra Red Remote Control (Sensor and Transmitter sold separately) and two momentary contacts for impulse
wall switch or control systems.
The design is based on 9 separate IR channels plus one all-command, with up to 9 Connect Motor Controllers within the
Connect network.
Contact closure is designed for local control only, with IR commands controlling all modules
on the Connect network.

General
The Connect modules link in a Daisy Chain configuration where the
Connect Network OUT RJ12 Port of one module is connected to the
Connect Network IN RJ12 Port of the next module.
NetworkRules
The rules for a network to operate are:
1. Up to 9 Connect modules may be connected.
2. The network is linear - i.e. no branches or forks in network.
3. The module that has the IR sensor connected is always considered Module 1 in the Connect Network
4. If using the CS2 iSense Trigger, you must use module 1 in the Connect Network and plug it into the
IN RJ12 Port on the module.
5. The network should not form a loop - i.e. the last module is NOT to be plugged back into the
first module.
6. The maximum cable length between modules is 20m.
7. The IR receiver should be left connected to at least one motor controller as some features can be
changed by programming via the IR transmitter.

iReply • TCP/IP (Ethernet), RS232, RS485 and USB Control
To be used in conjunction with
iConnect Motor Controlled Devices.
iReplyOverview
The iReply interface can control 2, 4 or 8 (depending on the
model) iConnect modules – projection screens, lifters and
blinds. It allows iConnect modules to be controlled and
monitored via multiple communication protocols.
iReply supplies real-time operational feedback for
ease of integration into control systems.

iReply IP2 – controls up to two iConnect modules
6500304
iReply IP4 – controls up to four iConnect modules
6500300
iReply IP8 – controls up to eight iConnect modules
Features
• WEB interface for manual control, diagnostics and development. An IP module
with a browser forms a powerful control, configuring and development tool.
• TCP/IP (Ethernet), RS232, RS485 and USB can all be used for control and
monitoring – even simultaneously.
• RS232 port can be linked through to a TCP/IP port to control projectors etc.
• Multiple TCP/IP links mean multiple systems can control and monitor the system.
• Setting and access can be password protection.
• Common Protocol on all interfaces
WebInterface
The Web interface allows configuration of:
• Username and Password
• The IP modules IP address, gateway and subnet etc.
• The Protocol to be used on each port
• The screens, lifters, blinds and curtains.
The Web interface shows:
• The states and details for each connected device such as type, position, fault, number of
operations etc.
• A log of activities on all other ports. This is a gem for developing software in the host. See
when connections are made and what is going back and forth.
• The Web interface allows simple manual control the connected devices by simply
clicking on a button.

The Ethernet port will concurrently support multiple TCP/IP links and the WEB interface. A
simple and fast ASCII protocol is used that is easy to put together and easy to debug.
The Ethernet port is provided on a standard RJ45 socket. It performs hP Auto-MDIX so
no crossover cable to worry about. By default the unit will negotiate a 10M link which is
more tolerant noise but more than fast enough.
USB
A full speed USB port is provided. The USB port can also power the complete module.
The USB needs no custom driver as it appears as two serial ports on the computer.
RS232
The RS232 style port is provided on plug in screw terminals with optional handshaking
lines. Support baud rates from 1200 to 115,200.
RS485
The RS485 port is provided on plug in screw terminals. Suitable for working on very long
cables (up to 300m).
Protocol
The protocol is easy to use. Each command and each response is a simple line of text.
Data returned is both CSV and fixed width for easy processing on all systems. Each port
uses the same protocol so changing the physical interface has minimum impact on the
controlling software.

Automated Roller &
Manual Chain Operated
Blind Systems
Photos supplied by Mermet Fabrics
Introduction
Motorised - Automated Roller Blind Systems
Chain Drive - Manual Chain Operated Systems
In most commercial environments the roll-down style of blind has become the window
covering of choice due to it’s clean contemporary lines and ergonomic efficiency.
Until now the AV integrator has worked in an industry sector that stands just to the side of
the blind industry, although with some similar skill sets, both being involved in commercial
& domestic projects but remaining separate.
Now with the growth and acceptance of automation and the rising awareness of Green
issues in building management, a potential market shift is occurring in favour of the AV
integrator as the sector with the best understanding of how to tie these two separate
product categories into a single unified environment.
Screen Technics with it’s long established involvement in the AV industry has recognized
this emergence and as such developed a range of roller blind systems, allowing for the AV
Integrator to move into this profitable channel. Our blind products are built around current
AV control thinking to better assist integration, plus supplying the fast lead-times expected
by today’s busy integrator.
So don’t get your blinds downstream from a third party supplier in the blind industry, buy
directly off the manufacturer at wholesale pricing from within the AV sector and deal with
people who speak the same language as you … AV
Remember… AV + Automation + Blinds = Increased Revenue … just do it!
Screen Technics recommends Mermet Intelligent Fabrics as our preferred supplier of
high quality commercial grade blind materials and as such has based our catalogue /
wholesale pricing around their market leading range. With full fabric sampling available and
comprehensive specifications guide, you need look no further than Mermet.
Obviously we have the capacity to manufacture using other fabric
ranges upon request and ask you to contact our sales department
with any queries you may have regards this issue.
Intelligent Fabrics
How to Measure for Roller Blinds
First a few important points
• Always use a steel measuring tape or a laser point
measuring system
• Don’t make allowances for clearance as we will
do this job at our end
• Measure EVERY window in the project, they may
look the same but they almost never are
• Measure the width of a window at the top
and bottom, then choose the lesser of the two
measurements to ensure achievable fit
• Get in the habit of measuring windows left to
right in any project, so you will know where you
are based on your measure sheet
• Measure width first, then write it down, and
then measure drop and write it down. This
reduces the error rate … and there will be one
• Don’t talk to people while doing this job,
conversation may be cheap but mistakes cost
money to fix
• Where blinds butt up against each other
make sure the gap is central over available
window mullions to stop light gaps becoming
a problem
• What is in the way … door handles, cabinetry,
moldings … look and use your eyes, you may
need another mounting solution based on this
question
• When you finish, take out another measure
sheet and do it again … compare results …
this will save money, time and your reputation
in the long run
• Know the maximum width of the blind material
chosen for the project as this will determine how
the blinds are broken up across the windows.
What size limitations are you working with?
Reveal Fit
TOP VIEW
The best solution by far, if possible, is the reveal fix, this being
internal fitting between the window frames.
FRONT VIEW
This has the advantages:
• Blind does not protrude as much into the room environment
• Bracket ends are not on display
• Blind physically closer to the glazing which improves blind
performance
• A neater appearance all round
Face Fit
TOP VIEW
This solution is used when the window system does not allow
for internal reveal fixing and requires mounting on the outside
face of the window system or surrounding mouldings.
This has the advantages:
• Clearance of door handles and other obstructions
• Blind can be wider than glass, reducing sun gaps
• Can be measured in conjunction with window mouldings for
unified appearance
• Measuring tolerances not as critical as reveal fit

FRONT VIEW
What Mounting Options Do I Have?
Standard Roll or Waterfall Method?
The Standard Roll for a roller blind system is for the blind fabric to roll off
the back of the tube, closest to the glass.
glazing
The advantages of this are:
• Blind physically closer to the glazing which improves blind performance
• Basebar normally stops when wedged between the glass and the roller
tube, so no Basebar rollover
Standard Roll
• Fabric is closer to framing thus reducing sun gaps
The Waterfall Method is for the blind fabric to roll off
the front edge of the tube.
handle
• Fabric actually hides the roller behind the fabric and has a better
decorative look
glazing
The advantages to this are:
• Can assist in gaining clearance over handles and moldings
• When two blinds meet in a corner at right angles, reduces the gap
between the blinds
Waterfall Method
• But remember that nothing stops a manual waterfall blind in the up
direction and it can have the Basebar roll over the top and jam if used
without care
Prime Blind and Linked Slave Blind?
For blinds that are installed in the same window reveal or have a clear face fix environment, you
do have the capacity to have a single blind, either motorised or chain driven, linked to blinds
adjacent in a row and have a single master or Prime Blind do the work, saving considerable
budget on motorised screens.
Prime Blind – is the unit that does the lifting for the other blinds.
Linked Slave – the units without mechanisms and act in unison with the prime blind.
How Many?
Motorised – Maximum 4 blinds in total (depending on total metreage)
e.g. 1 prime and 3 linked slaves.
Chain Drive – Maximum 2 blinds (depending on total metreage)
e.g. 1 prime blind and 1 linked slave.
