OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
Subject annotation in English
The aim of the subject is to understand operations management principles as well as to capture the logic of
operations management tools and the use of them. The study of operations management starts with the identification
of challenges for operations management in the light of changing competitive environment. The focus is put on
understanding of product and process selection, supply chain design, planning and controlling the supply chain.
These subject are analysed going in deeper details through: production systems and their measurement, operations
management principles, product design and process selection, total quality management, alternative ways to manage
operations, production planning and control, inventory control, material requirement planning and theory of
constrains.
The study is organized through lectures, seminars and individual work. At the end of the course students get familiar
with the analysis of operations, their management using specific operations management tools.

Study outcomes
At the end of the course students are capable to adapt and use operations management methods:
• They get able to operate with principles of operations management and to understand their development in the
changing competitive environment.
• They get able to organise the product design process and to analyse it.
• They get able to select best suitable process design and to analyse it.
• They understand and can use principles to organise and to manage supply chain as well as evaluate its
performance.
• They know to plan and to control supply chain.

Operations strategy and competitiveness of the firm; Product design and process selection; Process analysis; Total
quality management; Supply chain strategy; Strategic capacity management; Just-in-time and Lean systems;
Forecasting; Aggregate sales and operations planning; Inventory control; Material requirement planning; Operations
sheduling; Synchronous manufacturing and theory of constrains
Study hours
Lectures – 45 hours; Seminars – 22.5 hours; Individual work – 83.5 hours; Tests – 9 hours; Total: 160 hours
Evaluation of study results
Midterm exam – 30%; seminars – 20%; final exam – 50%.
