Technical Guide Gauges and Thermometers Pressure Gauges Thermometers Altitude Gauges Sprinkler Gauges Industrial Gauges Logo Gauges Ancillary Equipment Pressure Gauges Pressure gauges in this catalogue are activated by a responsive metal element which deforms under the effect of the pressure being measured. The following British and European Standards form the basis of the design and manufacture of the ‘Jet range’ Series of pressure gauges and of these guidelines. They should also be the source of reference for additional information: BS EN 837-1 : 1998 Jet range has a wide selection of gauges and thermometers, which are used to monitor critical elements that must be controlled in order to achieve desired performance. This guide will allow you to select the most appropriate product to meet a variety of requirements. The Jet range encompasses: Pressure Gauges Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauges – Dimensions, Metrology, requirement and testing - 50mm, 100mm, and 150mm diameters in a variety of pressure settings BS EN 837-2 : 1998 Selection and Installation recommendations for pressure gauges. Thermometers BS EN 837-3 : 1998 Diaphragm and Capsule Pressure Gauges Dimensions, Metrology, requirement and testing 2 - 100mm and 150mm diameter bi-metal thermometers - Clip on pipe thermometer - Electronic digital thermometer Thermometers The thermometers in this catalogue have circular dials and are actuated by a bimetal strip element, linked to the pointer. The following British and European Standard forms the basis of the design and manufacture of the ‘Jet range’ series of thermometers and of their guidelines. The standard should also be the source of reference for additional information: Altitude and Sprinkler Gauges - 80mm combined altitude gauge and thermometer - Altitude gauges up to 40 metres - Sprinkler gauges are glycerine filled with two pressure options to choose from BS EN 13190 : 2001 Industrial Gauges Dial Thermometers Contents page Pressure Gauges 4 Thermometers 5 Clip on Pipe Thermometer 5 Electronic Digital Thermometer 5 Altitude Gauges 6 Industrial Gauges 7 Logo Gauges 8 Logo Gauges Order Form 9 Ancillary Equipment 11 Introduction - Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauges for Standard Industrial Applications (Accuracy Class 1.0) - Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauges for Standard Industrial Applications (Accuracy Class 1.6) - Stainless Steel Bourdon Tube Pressure Gauges for Chemical Applications (Accuracy Class 1.6) Logo Gauges - Pressure gauges - Altitude gauges - Bi-metallic dial thermometers Introduction Pressure Gauges Safety The range of the pressure gauge should be selected such that the maximum working pressure does not exceed 75% of the fullscale value when measuring constant pressure, or, 65% for fluctuating pressure. The criteria for the selection of a gauge are a function of four factors. 1. 2. 3. 4. The pressure range (up to 25 bar, or, over 25 bar) The dial size (less than 100mm, or, 100mm and above) Whether the gauge is ‘Dry’ or liquid (eg glycerine) filled The state of the material under pressure (as a liquid, or, as gas or steam) Storage Pressure gauges should be kept in dry, clean conditions within a temperature range of -40 to +60°C and should be protected from impact damage. Installation It is advisable to install the gauge with an isolating cock or valve that facilitates removal of the gauge for maintenance or replacement. On installation a leak tight seal should be achieved. If using sealing materials ensure these do not prevent the fluids entering the gauge. Gauges should be mounted vertically unless designed (and marked) otherwise. Gauges fitted with a blow out device must have at least 20mm clearance from any obstacle to permit the blow out device to operate correctly. Installation should take account of the ambient temperature conditions and should these affect the gauge adversely (eg cause the medium to freeze within the pressure element, then the gauge should be located remotely. A pressure gauge should not be installed in contact with fluids whose temperature is outside -30 to +60°C. Under these conditions a syphon should be installed or a suitably remote location selected, where the temperature conditions are more suitable. Thermometers Safety The 'Jet range' series of pipeline thermometers are supplied, as standard, with solid brass pockets with a process connection of 1 ⁄2" BSP. The pockets are produced as an interference fit on the brass stem to ensure a high degree of sensitivity. The thermometers should not be installed without these, or other pockets. Storage Thermometers should be kept in dry, clean conditions within a temperature range of -20 to +60°C and should be protected from impact damage. Installation Thermometers will only measure the temperature experienced by the sensor probe. It is important, to achieve correct readings, that the probe is fully immersed into the flow of the pipeline or vessel. Correct nominal range and stem lengths must be selected before a thermometer is installed. 3 Pressure Gauges 50mm Diameter • Bourdon tube copper alloy • Black steel case • Acrylic window • 1⁄4" BSP bottom or back entry male connection • Direct mounting • Dual scale bar and psi • Accuracy class 2.5 to BS EN 837-1:1998 100mm and 150mm Diameter • Bourdon tube copper alloy • Black steel case • Acrylic window 4 • Chrome plated bezel 100mm Pressure Gauge • 3⁄8" BSP bottom entry male connection Materials Those parts of a pressure gauge which are in contact with the fluid being measured (the ‘wetted parts’) are, as standard, made from alloys of copper (brass and phosphor bronze) but can be stainless steel or other more exotic materials. • Direct mounting • Dual scale bar and psi • If doubt exists as to the suitability of the standard gauge, please contact a member of our sales staff.
