Guidelines and Sample Arts CV Presentation Styles Please submit your application in the following order: Academic: completed and signed application form NCEA (or Cambridge) calculator score Statement outlining why you should be awarded the scholarship Future goals statement Academic CV School reference If applicable - (Maori/Pasifika/Disability evidence) NCEA results Academic: Please ensure you attach all relevant qualifications – remember that the Selection Committee can only base their decisions on the information in your application. Your CV should list your achievements. Take particular note of the NCEA requirements - You are required to attach a copy of your Official interim NZQA Level 2 NCEA results (issued in January). These have the heading National Qualifications Framework, and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority address at the bottom of the page. You should also include a copy of your National Certificate of Educational Achievement. If you have completed University paper/s, please attach a copy of your academic results. You are still eligible to apply if you have completed/are completing other secondary qualifications, e.g. IB/home schooling etc, please attach a copy of your results. If you are undertaking the IB examination, please ask your Dean/Principal to comment on your progress. If you have lost your official copy you may send an unofficial copy printed from the NZQA website BUT only if this is verified by the School. You are required to complete the NCEA calculator/ Cambridge –the copy must be verified by the School (applicants who have left school – you are not required to have this verified, but your application will not be accepted if you do not supply verified copies of your NCEA results). Even if you have achieved University Entrance and are still attending Secondary School your application requires a reference / letter of support from your Principal or Year 13 Dean. Arts: PLEASE NOTE: The Arts Scholarship is for those applicants who have achievements in the Arts beyond NCEA subjects. If applicant’s achievements are NCEA subjects only, they should apply for the Academic category, not the Arts. Please submit your application in the following order: Arts: completed and signed application form Statement outlining why you should be awarded the scholarship Future goals statement School reference If applicable - (Maori/Pasifika/Disability evidence) NCEA results Evidence of artwork (if appropriate) Arts CV Arts CV: Your CV should list your achievements, these can be expanded on in your statement. Please keep your CV to one page, if you have many achievements, please list your best achievements. Re-read your CV and statement, and look at it as if you were a member of the Selection Committee –remember that the Selection Committee does not know who you are. The Selection Committees are made up of people with a great deal of arts experience and understanding, but they may not necessarily know much about your particular area of art, therefore it is up to you to make it clear what your achievements are and that your achievements are something out of the ordinary. It can be helpful to get someone who doesn't know much about your arts achievements to read your application and the regulations (so they have some idea of the selection criteria) and get some feed-back from them. Please do not use abbreviations unless you have used the full wording previously and put the abbreviation in brackets following, e.g. New Zealand Secondary Schools (NZSS), the abbreviation can then be used in later statements. Do not assume – the Selection Committee may not know ‘Girls on Tour’ is a tour of local schools promoting the arts drama, dance, culture & music. Rather than writing ‘Designed posters/graphics for various school groups and events’ – break that down to individual lines (or if you have done many of these, list your best or more important results) e.g. Designed graphics for xxxx School 1 st XI rugby team gear bags Designed and painted Banner for xxxx to take to National Tournament Designed and printed xxx Senior Ball tickets It is important to have supporting references - if you have been a member of a theatre company, you should have a reference from someone from that theatre company and not just from your school drama teacher. On the application form Arts Categories: Arts Achievements (e.g Drama, music):......................................... Do not list your NCEA results, the Selection Committee are looking for the category of Arts – such as: Photography, Drama, Music , Performance, Dance, etc. Do not use coloured paper, special binding or send CD’s. All applications, including CVs are photocopied before sending to the Selection Committee. Arts applicants may send evidence of their work if appropriate, this is to be limited to one A4 page.
